JRiver suddenly won't send to TV through bluray player
« on: March 16, 2016, 02:50:18 pm »

I had been able to play audio and video from JRiver on my TV without problem. The connection is Surface Pro 2 (Windows 10), Ethernet from docking station-> router, Ethernet from router->bluray, HDMI from bluray->TV.

My bluray shows up in JRiver in the Now Playing tree and the JRiver icon and my Surface appear on the TV screen from the bluray along with a list of my music by artist and album, and my videos, but, when I try to play them using the bluray remote, I get these error messages on the TV:

For audio: "There is no playable file"
For video" "The file is corrupt or unplayable"

My audio and video are stored on an external hard drive connected to the Surface docking station and I am able to play both on the Surface and the external monitor connected to the docking station, as well as audio on my stereo.

As I said, it was working fine as I was using it above and I have made no changes in my system. I have spent hours trying to figure this out and have searched the forums and the internet for a solution.

I have no problem playing audio to my stereo, connection same as above except router to Squeezebox Touch through Ethernet.

I hope I have included all relevant information. I am not completely clueless, but I am not, by any stretch, fully conversant in technical matters, so I would appreciate any help in the most simplistic terms, please. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hmmm, so you are actually using the DLNA capabilities of the MC Media Server functionality, and using the Blu-ray player is acting as a DLNA Controller, and probably a DLNA renderer, since you are using a HDMI connection from the Blu-ray player to the TV. I'm not expert on DLNA either, but there are a couple around here who may answer the question.

First thing I think you should do though is check the version you are currently running. If you have auto-update turned on, MC may have just updated to the latest version, MC21.0.58, since that has just been released. Why don't you try turning off auto-update, and then reinstalling MC21.0.54 from here and see if the problem goes away. If it does, at least that is a reasonable starting point for finding the problem, since it would probably be something broken between the two versions.

I did check that. I did not have autoupdate on. When I looked at my version, it was MC21.0.50. I then manually updated to MC21.0.58. No change. Thanks for the suggestion.

My WDTV boxes and Sony tv sometimes do this, usually a power off/on of either/or the dlna device and JRiver solves it.  At least it's easy to try...

Thanks, ferday. I did unplug the Sony bluray, still the same.

Sounds like a problem with the BluRay player (in my not expert opinion)

Have you tried pushing (using JRiver to send to the BluRay player, since it sounds like it's showing up), it sounds like you've been pulling (using the BluRay remote)

If that doesn't help one thing to try is search AndrewFG (user on these forums).  In his signature is a DRM Analayzer tool, if you run the tool and PM Andrew the log, he'll be extremely helpful and he's one of the best DLNA guys out there.

I'm not sure how to do that, ferday, from the JRiver program. Would using JRemote from my iPad do that (push from JRiver)?

Hopefully, I'm doing this right, Andrew.

I tried running your DMR Analyzer. I select the bluray player as the renderer, four selections come up:

mime=audio!wav
mime=video!avi
mime=video!matroska
mime=video!msvideo

I check all four boxes and then "run test." Nothing happens.

Am I doing this correctly?
Thanks.

I think those may be the tests for playback and you should try one at a time.

The program can create a log file.

On the first tab, you can try saving the log file.

AndrewFG lives in Switzerland, so you won't hear anything from him until tomorrow.

Is that the second tab labeled "Renderer Information?" (The first tab is labeled "About.") I'm not sure if that is a log file, but, in any case, it won't let me copy it.

There are two columns labeled "Attribute" and "Value."

The bottom row says "Play test file result" in the first column, "Attribute," and under the second column, "Value," it shows:

Play failed => Command "SetAVTransportURI" failed

No rush on this. It can wait until tomorrow. Appreciate your efforts.
