Im a newbe to JRiver...

I have a MAJOR problem with audio on mpg4 files.

Nothing wrong with all my ripped BDs, audio is fine!

All my mpg4 files have always played perfectly on Kodi, no issues….
But with JRiver its so hit and miss, sometimes I have audio but mostly not!
I have been into that area of DSP and tried many different settings, when I think I have the right one and everything playing well, the next time I try no audio again, its driving me nuts!
I spent 4 hours yesterday playing with it to try and figure out what was wrong, but in the end shut down in frustration….

What on earth do you think is wrong, is there a bug playing mpg4 files with JRiver?

As I have bitstreaming setup I would have thought I just need to passthough setting in DSP as I use my Marantz AV8802 11.1setup for all the sound formats.
Since this is the case I would have thought the settings I place in JRiver DSP were:
Output format unticked, then everything is set to passthough, is that not correct?

I dont want mpg4 files changed from there usual 2 channels, I use the AV8802 to set the output format to my 11.1 setup.

Sorry now I know what you mean. They are all .mp4, they all play audio perfectly through kodi as Ive been using the same files for years. With JRiver they are hit and miss, sometimes audio sometime no audio.

Usually I get it back by playing a movie for a sec then going back to the file, mostly they then play audio. But it keeps happening!

All very hit and miss!

However they have played perfectly for years on kodi, the exact same files...

Try turning off all DSP.

Try setting up audio following the Audio Setup topic on our wiki.

Don't use bitstreaming.

I want to use bit streaming for my movies, many are Atmos and some DTS X, if I don't bitstream they will be downgraded.

Strange today when I tried to test this everything worked ok every time audio with the files. I did however first turn OFF DSP, I have no idea if it should be off in my case but everything seems to work perfectly now. I could not make it fault at all with over an hour of testing, this just wouldn't happen like that yesterday.

So for now all seems fine. I will continue to test again tomorrow, fingers crossed the drama is over!
