New (to) iPhone
« on: December 08, 2017, 02:34:59 pm »

Can someone give me a quick rundown on how to manage my music library with MC on my new iPhone X.  I have always used Android before, so this is all new to me.  I would really prefer not to have iTunes installed if I can avoid it.

IIRC, iTunes is probably your only option I'm afraid. There is a MC iTunes Synchronizer app but I don't think it works with newer iTunes/iOS versions, which likely the iPhone X requires.

Bummer.  For some reason I thought that was a feature for MC.  Oh well.

The question was about managing an MC library with an iPhone.

Isn't that possible with JRemote? If not, can any other "media app" for iPhone manage an MC library?

To clarify:
What do you mean by "manage my music library with MC on my new iPhone X"? Is it an MC library? Or do you have the library on the iPhone?

There is no way to sync to an iPhone directly via Media Center, you have to import tracks to iTunes first.
But if you only care about a one-way sync of tracks, it's relatively easy to manage.

What I did was set up a new "handheld device" in Media Center that automatically converts tracks to AAC and places them in iTunes' "Automatically Add to iTunes" directory.
That way, opening iTunes will automatically import them and then sync them to the phone.

The "handheld device" can be set to sync "All Audio" or specific playlists. I created an "iTunes" playlist that I add the tracks I want synced to, since it wouldn't hold my entire library.
I have posted details on setting up an AAC converter here, since Media Center does not have one built in.

Sorry Tyler69, I meant manage my iPhone with MC.  It looks like it's not possible in the way I wanted, and if I have to install iTunes, I'll just manage it with that.  At least initially...from there, I will use the Amazon app since most of my mp3's are purchased through Amazon.
