UHD/HDR/3D Setup

<< < (3/10) > >>

atm ... yes ... latest NVIDIA drivers (will see if need to roll back for HDR to unstick after watching movies)

can only get 3D working in Exclusive ... and 2D movies in Overlay (without overlay ... 2D movies get black screen after few seconds of play ... if movie is stopped ... that black screen is stuck)

tij:
very strange ... watching 3D MKV ... whether exclusive (3D works) or overlayed (only 2D works) ... when stop movie and return to standard view, desktop restores to 60Hz ... exit JRiver and desktop switches to 23Hz ... only happens after watching 3D MKV ... cant figure what causes it

rec head:

Still using the Nvidia 385.69 driver. I copied the Max Quality settings from this post on Doom9 https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=171787 Checked all the 3D settings. Set HDR to passthrough. Turned Deep Color on the LG OLED on. And I'm almost there. 3D is working.

I'm still dropping frames when watching the 4k movie but it is almost watchable. It looks like the problem is that the 4K is being downscaled and sent to the TV as 1080P. Once I figure out how to stop that I should be OK.

Just to be on same page, I am using MC 23.091 (64 bit) on Fall Creators Update with GTX1070 running latest 390.65 driver (HDR turning off after stopping movie seems to work fine under FCU)

With FCU comes extra settings in Windows Display Settings... HDR and 3D (i leave HDR off as recommended by others)

So now 3D setting in OS appear in 2 places ... (a) NVIDIA Control Panel ... and (b) Windows Display Settings

switching 3D in (a) automatically sets correspomdonding setting in (b)

turning off 3D in (b) turns off 3D in (a) ... BUT turning on 3D in (b) does NOT turn on 3D in (a)

you need 3D to be turn on in (a) and running exclusive mode under MadVR rendering option for PC to send frame packed video to TV. So on TV you can toggle between 2D and 3D on remote control

if 3D is not on in (a) or you are not running in exclusive mode, 2 thing can happen ... PC either send SBS signal to TV (cannot watch in 2D) ... or PC sends 2D signal to TV (TV does not recognise it as 3D signal and ask to convert 2D to 3D when switched to 3D mode)

in all instances MadVR picks D3D11 to render

it was mentioned in other discussion that exclusive mode does not work anymore after FCU (not entirely true ... as it works and required for 3D) ... so if you set your MadVR to exclusive, 2D stuff will show black screen when they enter exclusive mode

if you untick everything in MadVR -> rendering -> general settings ... 2D tuff will run in D3D9 fulcreen window (HDR is correcty recognised by TV but you get only 8 bit as I understand)

to get 10 bit you need exclusive or D3D11 ... D3D11 crashes MC23 when 3D is enabled in (a)

so i thought to create profiles in MadVR for 3D (exclusive) ... 2D (D3D11) ... and use MadVr -> rendering -> stereo 3D option to turn OS 3D setting on/off when needed

now the bummer ... MadVr -> rendering -> stereo 3D option to turn OS 3D setting on/off only toggles settings in (b) ... and here is where i am stuck now :(

I got mine working and posted setting in another discussion

https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,113941.0.html

best to reset your madVR settings to default before trying those settings ... then if it works ... change each setting one by one and see how it turns out

changing all setting at once for best picture is troublesome ... if it does not work ... then hard to figure which setting is causing the problem
