I'm late to the party, but just wanted to voice that I consider the increased prices to be still an incredible bargain.
I don't know how common my experience is, but I'm a technical person, and not afraid to jump in to projects. Career-wise, I've written software and managed unix systems for a very long time, and have been building some simple electronics for a much shorter time. With the rPi hardware ecosystem and the linux software ecosystem, I thought I could duct-tape a network stereo system together, and after several months of weekends, more or less did. It was just annoying in several different ways, utterly lacking in polish, broke for stupid reasons, and took an absurd amount of work to add features to. I decided this was not the hill I was going to die on, threw money at JRiver and spent a weekend figuring out how to build everything out, and have lived (musically) happier ever after.
For my next trick, I'm designing some cases for the rPis, because I'm sick of dangling circuit boards...
