Transferring Libraries between MC 21 and MC24
« on: July 31, 2018, 09:15:29 pm »

I have two Windows 10 machines (Lenovo X1 and Microsoft Surface Pro). In the X1 I have MC 21 running and on the Surface Pro I purchased an update license and got MC 24. I can Backup Library to One Drive and then read using Restore to import that Library into MC 24. But I cannot seem to go in the other direction. That is, Backup from MC 24 and then try to Restore onto MC 21. Am I doing something wrong? Is this a bug? Or is this a feature of MC 21 / MC 24? Thanks. . .  w.

More generally, what's the best way to have one library/playlists being accessible with two (legal) versions of MC? Thanks*2

That won't work because the library format changed.  It's not backward compatible.

A MC licence allows you to run MC on more than one machine that you 'own'. I can't find a link with the exact wording. So the answer is to upgrade your MC21 to 24 (you can do that anyway) or just turn on the media network and share your master/main library to the other PC.

ARGHHH! I tried to use my (valid) MC 24 licensing key and I get the Error Message "Your license file is for a different product" and it then doesn't install MC 24. So I'm unable to update the MC 21 on my computer #1 to make it compatible with MC 24 on computer #2. Do I need to remove everything related to MC 21 first? I've used up two downloads so far today trying to do this and MC 24 is still not installed. Any and all suggestions appreciated. . .  ws.

Make sure you're using MC 24.0.45 from here: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,116887.0.html

Then try using the license. If the .mjr license key file doesn't work, just copy and paste your registration code into MC24 when it prompts for it.

Awesome Donkey, you're awesome. I got it to work and is now reading my Library nicely! Thank you.
But I spent probably close to 10 hours before discovering that MC 21 won't read MC 24 Libraries! And then
the update one needs to make sure that they are identical 64-bit or 32-bit versions. My inexperience but I
bet others have the same experiences. Thanks again Awesome Donkey!
