NVIDIA stops support for 3D from 430 driver

Hello all.

I have recently built an HTPC and have tested 3D MVC/FP on both an RTX2080 and an RX580 with JRiver 26.
The RTX2080 required install of the older 3D Vision driver. There is a hack out there on the nVidia forums to merge the old 3D driver files into the current driver packages, but that is obviously unsupported.
The RX580 worked out of the box with its current driver installed.
I am sticking with AMD because of this.
They'll have to pry 3D MVC/FP projected onto my 135" screen from my cold dead hands!

My HDMI chain is HTPC RX580 HDMI 2.0 -> Denon X2600H -> Epson 2150
I am probably going to swap out the RX580 for a newer RX5500XT due to power/thermals and SFF case fitment.

Just curious to the poster who read about problems with AMD cards - what exactly was the issue? I have noticed nothing unusual so far about playback with JRiver and madVR.

I've been using AMD cards for quite a few years with madVR and JRiver minimal problems.
I've recently upgraded to a 5700XT using the latest drivers and it works really well including 3D.

Ok, thanks for the confirmation. Good to hear. I think the support is contained within UVD, which has now evolved to VCN with the modern cards. Hopefully they will not purposely drop it.

TheShoe:
Was playing around with the latest nVidia drivers to address a DX12 issue with a game.  While it resolved the issue, it of course removed 3D support.  madVR will output SBS and I can manually enable 3D on my LG OLED.  What I noticed however is that the 3D is "blurrier" and not quite as sharp as MVC (frame packed).  It was the first time 3D bothered my eyes.

Upon reverting back to the nVidia 425.31 drivers, they refused to install.  It turns out there are two types of nVidia drivers now, "Standard" and "DCH".  the latter is a new packaging of the driver and something sort-of enforced by Microsoft.  In order to restore the older driver, I had to go to add/remove programs and manually remove the latest nVidia driver, which in my version of Windows 10 reverted to 432.0 (Standard).  From there I could install 425.31.  whew!

There are posts on the nVidia forums that you can also use DDU (Display Driver Uninstall) to solve this but you need to disconnect from the 'net else it seems to just download/install DCH drivers again.

I really don't like yielding control of my hardware/software this way.  Thankfully I've blocked Windows from updating my display drivers, but that's only because I have Win10 Prof and set policies that so far, Microsoft has honored.  Time will tell.

Anyway - thought I would share for those like me who still purchase/watch 3D and desire to do so for a long time!

It's possible the SBS 3D could be adjusted to correct the bluriness, but not willing to invest the time at this point until necessary.  As for the gaming?  I'm just going to either dual-boot or build another PC with an RTX 2080Ti anyway, once Cyberpunk comes out.

No idea what Nvidia driver I'm using but my 3D stopped working. I read somewhere on here that using the Top and Bottom (that might not be the exact name) setting and that is what I used. I do have to press the 3D button on the TV but it works. My initial impression is that there was less ghosting than previous but after watching some Avatar it seems about the same. I don't watch enough 3D to mess with it too much. Overall I think I spent way less time making a few adjustments than trying to get drivers to work. The problem for me and this doesn't seem to be driver or 3D type dependent is balancing judder vs soap opera effect.
