I have set CD player style on my Idpi. Using JRemote2 on my phone as a remote controller it does replay the current track, but if I set it to play to This Device it plays the previous track, as your original post.

A new update for JRemote2 is on its way. It was released on the Play Store minutes ago, and should make its way to everyone's devices soon.

With Media Center 27, we can now make use of a new video streaming mode both for streaming to the remote (optional, disabled by default for now), and ChromeCast (always on with MC27) which is more reliable and should better recover from network glitches on the move.

Other key improvements include native support for ALAC playback, both from MC itself and CloudPlay, and the addition of system management controls for restart or shutting down the server (requires authentication).

Additionally, the way the playback mode is configured was unified. The option is now always in the "kebab" menu on the top right, with proper labels to identify them, as well as remembering it per-view, which should help with the differences between video (often single file playback) and audio usage (album/playlist playback).

The full changes are listed below!

JRemote 2.2.0 (09/08/2020)

1. Fixed: JRemote2 will properly refresh the CloudPlay login if it expired or becomes invalid.
2. NEW: Support for native ALAC playback.
3. Changed: Moved Play Mode from the action bar to the "kebab" overflow menu, with icons and proper selection list.
4. Changed: Play Mode is saved on a per-view basis similar to the view mode, allowing eg. audio views to default to Play All and video views to Play Single.
5. NEW: Added server system control commands (Shutdown, Restart, Sleep).
6. Changed: Casting to ChromeCast supports longer playlists.
7. NEW: Improved video streaming to ChromeCast with Media Center 27.
8. NEW: Optional HLS video streaming when playing locally for more reliable playback (requires Media Center 27).
9. Changed: In local playback, the "Previous" button behaves in a CD-player style, returning to the beginning of the track on a single click, and to the previous track on double click or when near the beginning.
10. Changed: Increased the height of the video seekbar touch area for better control.

Still lacks a few simple fixes:
- title in Playing Now view doesn't scroll, so long titles are simply truncated. Affects virtually all classical music.
- Metadata view still includes a few otherwise useless tags, such as Audio Analysis Info (not sure about Waveform because I always delete those, as they were making a huge mess in the Metadata view)
- Tag names are incomplete, so you get for example two consecutive tags named "Date", with one having a value like 39448 while the next will be 2008.

One feature that the iOS version has (or maybe had, haven't used the latest release) is the ability to view extras (such as PDF booklets) . Mo4Media can do it.

That was tried, it just looks weird. I'm open to ideas how to improve the experience with classical music, but these long titles really screw with the layout.

The title does scroll in the Album view though. So you can read the whole thing when selecting Albums to play. (Please don't change that Hendrik!)

The other comments are fair. JRemote2 still has a lot to be done.

Theatre View remote control? That is still on the list I hope.

You know I thought it was. I even thought I remembered using it. But then I looked for it and couldn't find it anywhere.

On my phone it is behind the Device selection button, which is opaque, and as it has a line between the System item and what's below, I just didn't think to scroll down on the flyout menu. Doh!

It works really well. Nice and fast. Obviously based on how the Gizmo Theatre View Remote Control worked, with some improvements.

Hello, I purchased JRemote2 for use on an android table. While the interface is certainly better than Gizmo, I’ve had some issues that make me revert back to using Gizmo.

The issues I’m having are:

1. If I playing a selection from an album, it stops after that song was played and not advance to the next. Gizmo will play the whole album through.
2. If I use Gizmo, I can also use my Harmony remote to pause, skip or FF/RW. JRemote2 will not let me skip forward.

I’ve had this problem using both MC26 and MC27 and I also have the lasted update of JRemote2. If I’m missing a setting somewhere, I hope I can correct it.

1. Set the "Play Mode" to "Play all now". The setting is under the three-dot menu in the top right corner of JRemote2, in the current Beta version. It was an icon at the top of JRemote2 in earlier versions. Then if you open an Album and tap the Play icon in the top section, the whole Album will be played. If you tap one Track in the Album, the Tracks will be played from that point on.

2. All those functions still work for me using my Harmony remote. That is a function of the MC installation you are playing to, not Gizmo or JRemote2. I just checked by using JRemote2 to play to my HTPC, outputting to my AVR and main speakers. I assume you are playing in a similar way.

Thank you for replying.

I could not find a three dot menu in the top right corner but I did have an icon that was a 1 with a “play” symbol (play now) behind it. Tapping on that did bring up the menu you suggested and I was able to select “Play all now”. Everything works as it should.

Is there any chance of Custom Views being supported in JRemote. I mean just mirroring the custom views already set up in the main application.

I created one which just lists my Multichannel Music (of which I have a lot) and there is no way to view it simply in the Android app.

Custom Views are created for JRemote via "Options > Media Network > Advanced > Customize views for JRemote, Gizmo, & Panel".

They are separate to Standard View, Theatre View, and DLNA Server Views. That is, MC has four different sets of Views, and each has its own View definition functionality.

Hi all.....Have a question related to JRemote 2 for Android. I have just purchased this program from Play Store switching from JRemote for IPad - after I decided to make a change.... Was very happy with the way JRemote for IPad worked & had no problems at all. I have MC27 on a Windows PC - while my library is on a Melco NAS. With IPad and JRiver remote, I was able to save a song to a predefined playlist and play this list on my devices. However, I am not able to do this with JRemote for Android. Pressing and holding on a song while it is playing, you do get the option to add to a playlist - but it is not known which playlist - nor you get the options of several playlists o choose from. It is not known to me where this playlist is and where to find it. Maybe I am doing something wrong - so kindly support. Thank you.

Hi Hendrick, hi all!

I have been looking a feature around the forum to see if someone has talked about it, but I haven't foun nothing about (sorry if I'm wrong).

The feature is the following: I use Jremote2 to conect to my MC27 with all my music files when I'm out of my home via Internet with my mobile phone.

It works perfectly fine with a 4G+ connection, also with 192/24 FLAC files.

The thing is that, when I arrive home, i would like to continue lisening the same song I was lisening in the mobile phone (this device) in the MC27 Reproductor, ie, my HiFi set.

But, when I change in JRemote 2 from This device to Reproductor, I don't continue lisening the song I was lisening in my mobile, but instead the last song that was played in the Reproductor of MC27.

There is any way to use Joremote2 to have this continuous listening from my mobile to my HiFi set?

If not, could you consider this feature in future versions?

Not at this time. It could be difficult to do that because of the way MC uses Zones. Particularly as JRemote2 isn't a Zone for your MC Server, in the same way other Zones are.

Probably the best that could be achieved would be to save Playing Now in JRemote2 as a Playlist, and then start playing that Playlist on your Hi-Fi. Even that would probably start again from the beginning of Playing Now.

Maybe Hendrik can work some magic.

I recently used JRemote2 as a theater view remote. It looks much like Gizmo, but it doesn't tell me how to use it EVERY TIME I open it, like Gizmo does; which I love. I suggest Gizmo doesn't need to tell me every time I open it. JRemote2 seems to work virtually the same as Gizmo otherwise, but JRemote doesn't actually control volume with device hardware buttons, like Gizmo does. Could that be fixed?

Also, could it (optionally) keep the playing now from one session to another. Having to navigate to start a playlist every time I open it isn't as nice as having it just open to the playlist when I open JRemote.

Couple more issues.

Smartlists don't seem to reliably refresh unless JRemote is closed and re-opened.
Best way to reproduce this is with a completely random list that generates when it's loaded.
The one that's definitely bust here is image only if that makes a difference.

When viewing an images playlist in landscape mode, they're all squashed into the left half of the screen with the player controls on the right.
Oddly, it doesn't do this in portrait & images are centered within the player controls as I'd expect.

I can't see a way to start a timed image slideshow.

When viewing a file's tags with the Info button, the date is not shown correctly.
Looks like it's showing the raw epoch value as opposed to the nicely formatted variety.

A quick search shows some issues with JRemote and Smartlists but I didn't see this: When selecting a large Smartlist in Jremote2 it never loads.

JRemote2 doesn't support Android TV/Google TV.

JRiver for Android does support it (so does Panel which JRiver for Android uses as its UI), but your results with it may vary. MO 4Media also supports Android TV but it'll work a little different than JRemote2 does.

Nope, they're not. Using Media Center as a client on the tablet or using Panel in a web browser are probably your only options. I believe there was a build of MO 4Media which ran as a universal Windows 10 app, but it's not available in the Microsoft Store (so you have to manually install it) and I don't believe it's been updated in a long time.

I'd honestly recommend ignoring most of the reviews for JRemote2 on the Play Store, many of the criticisms either don't apply anymore or are related to misconfigured settings or things like that.

My personal opinion is, JRemote2 is better than Gizmo. It supports things like gapless playback with FLAC files, which Gizmo can't do. Also it's much, much faster than Gizmo with navigation and everything. Plus the interface is much better.

It's worth noting to anyone interested in trying JRemote2 but don't like the idea of purchasing the app without a free trial available keep in mind you can purchase JRemote2 on the Play Store but the Play Store will give you two hours to trial purchased apps and anytime within that time period you can request a refund from them. If you go through route, it's best to immediately do your testing so you can take advantage of that time frame for a refund. Also keep in mind JRiver has no control over refunds or anything like that, only Google does on the Play Store.

So before i did that 2 hour trial on Jremote2,can you please verify that it is

1.Just as easy to setup (In JRiver?) as Gizmo was. Man it was easy for me,a simpleton lol

2.That it has all the access search and browse options that Gizmo has,BUT with not only browse by disk for video,BUT also browse by disk for audio?
What an odd thing to leave out of a near perfect app.i would not even likely be here if Gizmo added that one option

3.It has been a while since i have purchased on playstore,i will need to look up my passwords etc.Plz tell me what and how the refund works? Who how and where do i make that contact?

4.Are there videos or at least screens of JRemote in action?

I ran across this, looking for ways to do it headless.

Win 10 may have options for setting power button behavior; Linux does. I have MC 26 on an Intel NUC running Ubuntu 16.04, and Ubuntu is now set to shutdown on the push of the power switch. The Intel BIOS is set to go to S5 rather than the default S3 suspend. This particular unit can't do wake-on-wireless anyway.

The one thing it does not seem to do is browse/search by disk for audio.It does for video,but not audio.That seems odd

i would buy Jremote2 if it did all Gizmo did and allowed search/browseby disk.

Good day

i have under 2 hours now to refund this app and i need assistance if possible

2 disappointments is i can only browse by disk under videos like Gizmo(Which is Gizmos only fault)

But worse yet is it does not play through my stereo like gizmo does,unless i am doing something wrong? It plays thru my cell,which is useless to me

PS in settings i also notice it uses MP3 only and says that mp3 320 is high quality

Again if so this app is not for me.But i may be missing something under this less than 2 hour dead line.

i found the setting and now play via my stereo(If i ever wanted to play via cell,that is a bonus over gizmo which does not d that.i doubt it,but its an option)

The art display is beautiful the way i can adjust size ettc

Now can i search and browse by disk under audio as well as video?

Browsing my drives is a serious feature i would love.Why dont we get that in either Gizmo or Jremote2.It is worth a extra few dollars IMHO for the way i organize my drives.i like to see the folders as i organize the Ie By vinyl rips,or CDs or SACD etyc

Please consider using tags to structure your library. You can fill the tags from your file structure. See the Library Tools topic on our wiki. Fill Tags from File Properties.

How does one browse by metadata?

i accidentally discovered if i browse by artist/album etc i can hold on a song and get a few options.One being metadata.i was pleased to see in there i can view folder/drive infos.But that is a slow tedious process i have to do for each file,one at a time then deciding is that the file/folder/HDD i want

Are you saying i can search/browse by metadata in a more efficient way? i am discovering things as i go along,and may have missed this.

Why is it we can browse videos by disk(Also on gizmo),but not audio? That option would be the deciding factor on which app to choose.

I will explain why i need this,and it sounds like you can advise me on this

On my many HDDs i have folders and sub folders.All arranged by

1.Media type(Ie SACD/Vinyl rips/CDs.Ie SACD folders are named SACD,Vinyls are named Vinyls etc

2.Within those folders are the bands artists.

What browsing by disk would allow me to do would be to choose 1st the medium Ie CD or sacd i am in the mood for.Now once i find the artist i want i know i can click for metadata,but that is a tedious process one file at a time.i think i may be missing a more expedient way to do it?

i would pay a few extra dollars to get the browse by disk option in audio.Is there a tech reason we or gizmo only have it under "Video"? i cannot imagine there is

Is there a "Features wish list" in progress for JRiver or Gizmo they have access to?

Ie: Cast and search and playmode

Playmode is the one i want but none work.Neither play now,nor play next,nor Append to "Now playing" list,nor play all now,play all next nor add all to now playing.

Clicking on any of those has no result.

If i try tis outside that folder,in the single root folder that holds all those files,and click play now,play next etc,it will only play one track from all the tracks in that folder

Is there some other setting or step i need to take 1st?

Are these all errors JRiver is aware of and working on?

My guess is i am missing a step because i feel those options would not be there and not work,and i am alone in their failures?

I think one reason why people aren't replying is that they're unsure whether you are actually using JRiver Media Center. Your questions about searching through folders and files on your drives is quite alien to a user of JRiver MC, which does all that for you. I find all of my music using its genre, leading to the artists, then albums. You don't need to tell it where to look, you set that up when you first import the files into MC. If you do have MC, why aren't you using it? You've done the time consuming part - ripping or downloading, and the rest is easy in MC. Note that JRemote2 in Google Play Store says 'Remote Control & Remote Streamer for JRiver Media Center (required)'. Good luck.

Yes i am using MC on my Windows 10 desktop,but this is the 1st time i have ever tried to do anything other than just drop a file from one of my folders on my PC to MC and play it.i guess you may say i have always used MC but worked outside it?i have never really dove too deep into the very deep program.

Yes that i get,i can do that as well. But i would also like to browse my HDD folders from inside MC in the way Jremote2/Gizmo allow me to. But they only browse by DISK for video for some reason.

i need to browse this way because i don`t choose music by genre/artist etc,i choose it by IE cassette/CD etc.That is how everything is setup on my HDDs

Jremote2 and Gizmo were a simpletons intuitive breeze to setup.If the would only browse my HDD folders by audio as they do video,well i would not be here

i think within JRiver MC i can browse by HDD folders attached to my MC library? Not sure where tho or how?

Ie i have a drive H:/ and a drive I:/ etc filled with audio only

When i think of an album i want to hear i usually think in terms of do i "Do i want to hear my cassette rips or my CD or my vinyl rips.So on each drive my folders are organized by IE

Cassettes:/Artist/Name of LP.

If those were only videos in Jremote2/Gizmo i could browse by DISK inside the app as if it was a windows folder(S).

Make a Smartlist of cassette, vinyl, whatever. Then in Jremote2 go to Playlists and select your desired list.

Make a Smartlist of cassette, vinyl, whatever. Then in Jremote2 go to Playlists and select your desired list.

i have some good news

i borrowed my grandsons old samsung tablet(4)

i DL gizmo and Jremote2(Nice JRemote 2 allows another install)

Gizmo flies fine and dandy,but 1 glitch with Jremote2,honestly my preferred app by a little bit

The add a server is different than on my newer samsung Galaxy S20 ultra cell.

i enter access key correct(Same one in gizmo) but i get access key lookup failed whether i have use secure connection on or off.

The difference i see in setup on this Jremote2 install is it asks for username and password,i did not see that on my samsung fone setup.

Is the lack of username and password why i get access key lookup failed?

PS same error if i try to connect by IP

Again i am asked for a user name and password,of which i have no idea.i ve never set one in my memory
