MC 29 - JRWorker crash when running auto import
« on: August 28, 2022, 05:15:09 pm »

Hi all, I've had to clear my library and re-import all my audio, photo and video files and getting 3 JRWorker threads crashing after a couple minutes each time I try.

Does anyone know what could be causing this and/or have any tips on how I can resolve it? Is there a way to limit the number of JRWorker threads to 1 to attempt to maintain stability even if it would take longer to complete the import?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Configure Windows Defender.  Instructions on this board.

Don't run any other antivirus.

What version of MC?

Hi Jim, I'm only running Windows 11 Defender (no 3rd party AV) and my version is MC29 for Windows.

I'm able to import all my audio files (~7000) and video files in a particular videos folder, but it seems to crash only when trying to import my very large 'Pictures' folder (~80 000 pictures and videos). It kicks off and after a couple hundred imported, it all of a sudden crashes on the JRWorker thread(s). Sometimes it crashes so hard that my keyboard and mouse stop responding and I have to reboot the PC, while other times it allows me to click OK on the JRWorker thread error(s) and re-launch MC where the same thing happens again.

I've temporarily had to remove my pictures folder from auto-import because auto-import was kicking off by itself shortly after launching MC and quickly crashing.

It could be only happening on this one PC which is an Intel i7 with a bit of a non-standard memory config of 24 gb. The pictures folder is stored on an SSD drive (non-M2 nVme).

You could turn on logging and send a crash report to: logs at jriver.  Maybe it will show us something.  Thanks.

Did you configure Windows Defender?

In the Windows Defender, I have added exclusions for the MC29 and JRWorker executables as well as the entire JRiver folder but I have the same problem.

I'll try and figure out how to collect and send the logs as Matt suggested.

Crash Log attached. Thanks Matt.

It unfortunately doesn't have a crash dump.  That's what we need to really investigate.  Try clicking "Report problem" after a crash.
