Media Center 9.0.106 beta
« on: February 03, 2003, 01:55:23 pm »

Media Center 9.0.106 beta is available.

Many things will crash and not work.  If that worries you, please wait for a couple of weeks.

We just made major DB changes -- backup your library before installing

[This build was pulled because it creates problems when the previous build is uninstalled first -- see below for details.  There should be another build this afternoon.

Changes

1. Fixed: When installing an expired MJ or MC license, a numerical error code was displayed instead of informative text.
2. Fixed: Media Center was reporting that it is Media Jukebox in System Info.
3. Fixed: In some cases following a CD burning operation, the CD was not accessible until MC was restarted.
4. Fixed: Obscure file ordering issue with data CD burns. Some players would play the last file first, then the rest in order.
5. Fixed: Data CD burn would fail if user played tracks at the same time as they were being burned.
6. Fixed: CD burner wasn't verifying that "decode direct" setting was compatible with other audio CD options.
7. Fixed: Download Manager would not work with FTP links.
8. Fixed: Internet connections were not timing out in case of failure.
9. Fixed: Library Manager was displaying remote libraries in "Clone from" combobox.
10. NEW: Restructured DB core.
11. NEW: Added zone setting command to mjextman.exe. (example: "mjextman.exe /Command SetZone 2")
12. Changed: Several DB related UI changes. (Library Manager, menus, etc.)
13. NEW: Various HairStyle improvements.

We're still getting more bugs reported than we can fix each build. Please keep a list of bugs you find, and re-report anything that doesn't get fixed each build.

Thanks for your help and support.

My dear Matt. This build is dangerous. My library doesnt even opens. Says that this is Media Center failed to load the specified library. It will revert to the default library. Then after that says Media Center failed to load any library. This is a critical error.  :-[

Yes, I installed in another pc and it opened fine. But before I cleared the library and unnistalled the mpc plugin. So, maybe that have to do with that error. Jimh, where is the location of the library, to delete it. Thanks. ;D

It's usually here:
C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center\Data

It could be here:
C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\Data

or another place you've set.

It includes all the jmd files.  Copy them first to a folder.

You can also just clear the library from MC under File.

I get the error: "Media Center could not find any full screen skins. Please reinstall the latest version of Media Jukebox." (strange combo of MC-MJ referrals) when entering fullscreen mode. It enters fullscreen mode after clicking okay, but it will not switch to hairstyle.

Oh, and my library is no longer sorted by filename as it has been set to do in the "tree & view settings". It appears to be sorted pretty randomly and resets itself to that every time I leave and come back to the library.

I uninstalled all previous versions, rebooted, then installed this build to my g drive.  On starting the program, it informed me that it couldn't find the specified library, and that it could not contine (I got two messages to this effect, then it shut down).  I checked, and there was no library in the Data folder, where one should be, so I copied over my "old" one from v8, and it worked fine after updating it (took a hellishly long time...not sure what all it's doing, but it seems to be actually verifying each file or something).

Turbo,
It's extreme and you'll lose any data stored in the library, but not in the files.

Delete this registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JRiver\Media Jukebox

You may also need to delete this one:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Media Jukebox

I did an install of 106 over 105 and everything works just fine.  However, upon starting 105 for the first time, I lost my library and had to start over.

Now - I notice that I have duplicates of my cdrw/dvdrw in media jukebox - that is, two entries for my D and E drive.  Ripping seems to work out just fine.  Just kind of odd.

Plus - playback on some mp3 files still skips - tried Wave Out and DirectSound.  Affected files play fine in WinAmp - they only skip in Media Center 9, as of build 103.

Bugs:
1. volume slider still missing  :-/
2. mpeg video sorted under audio
<Minor:>
3. If you select 'backup library' then click cancel, a window pops up saying 'Library backup successful'

This is something really weird. Jim I did that, I even delete everything from the registry (all traces with a registry cleaner) and still. But then I got a weird idea. I copied the Data folder from the pc that works and voila, is fine now. So the problem recides in the data folder. The only problem was that I had to use one of my restores, Grrrr..... :'(

WAO. I still have some mp3. This player really sounds good.. Specially with ASIO and the Revolution 7.1. I think unnistalling everything does good, specially with all this changes. I can tell you something. This build sounds better than the previous. I dont know what you did Matt but the asio works great. Jimh Thanks. ;D

BUG: When using ASIO (the main reason I switched to v9), and I go to the Options window, audio stops completely, and acts as though I pressed pause...except it will not start again unless I press stop, then play again.

I have a Delta 1010-LT, using the latest non-beta drivers, on XP Home.

Well, after posting problems with UNC (Universal Naming Convention) paths many, many times over the past 50 or 60 releases, I must ask the basic question:

Is there any intention to fix UNC capabilities in MC?

When trying to use a UNC path when ripping a CD to disk, MC crashes.  When using a standard path (drive letter), it works fine.

But I've been posting this issue for so long that if there is no plan to fix it, I won't bother reporting it and I'll just use WMP or something to rip my CDs.

I don't mean to sound like a complainer, but I'm surprised that this hasn't been fixed yet.

I got the same error message and heres what i did to fix it. I unzipped my MC9 library backup and just copied the files into the data folder in my Media Center directory. MC9 then proceeded to load up just fine.

First of all, thanks for adding/fixing the ipod mini-me skin--forgot to add this to my previous post.

I have had no problems with my library  (I installed 106 "over the top" of 105--but I appreciate the reminder to backup up my library, I would've forgotten otherwise..)

Bugs:

1. My CD Burner shows up twice...I was hoping that a kindly elf or gnome had installed a second drive for me, but sadly, this is not the case...

2.  This is probably related to #1--I can't queue anything up on my burner  (I was going to try and burn a data cd again)--it's listed as "na", although it is correctly labeled at the top of the menu I get when I click on "send to".

3. Customize toolbar is still a mess.  (It's ok on my 'puter with windows NT).  Not a major issue.

4. Tekno skin is still cut off at the top  (very minor bug).

Bugs:
1. Can't burn CDs...MC shows CD-RW drive twice but will never show a burn list.

2. Sorting is broken when clicking on high-level nodes like Media Library...can't tell what order MC is sorting by.

3. Video playback still does not adjust output image when switching to a new video (after finishing playback of another video)...MC shows the new video in it's actual size in the upper-lefthand corner of the viewing window.

4. Portable Device support is broken still...crashes MC if you attempt to use it (with a USB-connected CF-Reader)...I don't know, maybe support for Portable Devices are being dropped in MC 9?

Ack - now after an upgrade from DX 8.1 to DX 9 (trying to find out why some mp3s skp for me) and a reboot, I get the library not found issue.  I check my folder for the mediafiles.jmd file and find a 6k file instead of the 6mb file that should be there.  Even after expanding the backup I did previous to the directory and a restart - no luck.  I'm reverting back to 105 until this is sorted out.

Hey all,
Media Editor still cannot decode APEs.  Is there an ETA on when this will be fixed or am I doing something wrong?  I usually record from the Record Sound tool in APE format and then use Media Editor to edit the files (was that redundant?).  Anyway, just wanted to find out when this might be fixed.  Thanks for your time.

I installed 105 on top of 106 without any major problems.

Am I crazy or does my music sound better now ?
The stereo seperation between speakers seems a lot better.

106 seemed to working OK (except for UNC issues that continue) but then it blue-screened while I was ripping a CD (on the last track) and now I can't open MC again.  It won't open the existing library or the default library.  I think some other people reported this behavior as well.
Ugh.

The message I'm getting now says that it failed to load any library and that I should reinstall the program.  Re-running the 106 installation doesn't help, so I'm going to try uninstalling first and then re-installing.  If not, I'll uninstall and re-install .89 (which is one of my more stable versions).

BUGS
1. CD-RW shows up in devices twice.
2. MP3 Plugin not allowing me to use the "custom" selection to input a command line when clicking "advanced". Shows the normal selection list instead of the command line input window.
3. Video files (avi and mpg) are being read as type "audio" by MC.
4. If I make a playlist with a few video files and play the first one full-screen, the next video begins to play but in  a tiny-sized window. This is remedied by going back to windowed mode and switching back to full-screen mode.

REQUESTS
1. File recognition support for the OGM avi container format.
2. Customizable list styles for each view scheme, e.g. thumbnails would make more sense for pictures and videos and lists would make more sense for large album collections.
3. Ability to get rid of some (or all) of the auto smartlists, as well as other menu items like Start, Find CD, My Computer, and Web Media.
4. "Combined" view scheme e.g.
-[ARTIST]
-+[YEAR]-[ALBUM]

Matt, When retrieving trackdata through YADB I often get "Action failed. CD not found".
When using another CD-ripper (that uses freedb or cddb) I do get track-info using the same CD. Does YADB make use of the freedb-database? If so, why does MC9 (.105) not retrieve track-data? Apart from this, MC9 is a nice piece of software, but not getting track-info is really.. disappointing. How come?
Am I the only one having this problem?

Another suggestion: I've downloaded the freedb-database (freedb-win-20030101.rar, 138 MB) and extracted that, resulting in a directory of close 800mb).
If/If at all possible..., I really don't know, what about having an option in MC9 to retrieve info from this off-line database?
Thank you.

rgds/Marcel.

To anyone with a library problem.

Our guess is that this only happens when you uninstall 105 before installing 106.

Then, when installing 106, it assumes that the library should be in the Media Center\data folder and not where it probably still is in Media Jukebox\data.

You can probably fix this by copying the jmd files from one directory to the other.

Ok, Library Backup is naming th files with a weird date format (2-3-2003) is now ( - 2-3-2003) ...

Can I rant about YABD Track Lookup ?
Can people stop putting songs(tracks) into YADB where the Album is set to "The Best Of .... " (I guess from ChartFinder).  I did a lookup of 6000 songs, just to see ... and it came back with 1500 matches and over 50% of those were THE BEST OF album names.  And, Im betting that most of those weren't really the BEST OF albums!

YADB, further to my previous message

When re-installing MJ8, noticed that MJ8 does get track-info from the very same CD where MJ9 doesn't..:-(  My guess is that something is wrong with MJ9 YADB query... Is there any developer reading this area???

That's why I said 'maybe'... I am comparing over a dozen of CD-rippers/organizers and must confess that MC9 outranks them all. Frankly this YADB-thing is the only major problem I am encountering. A lot of cheaper or free stuff outranks MC9 on this one (only). As said, MJ8 gets the track data, MC9 not -same CD-. Why not forget about YADB and get freedb or CDDB instead or a plug-in that allows freedb requests.
