Playing PC system sound on DLNA DAC
« on: March 14, 2025, 07:41:21 am »

I want to send my PC’s default audio output to a DLNA DAC for the best possible latency/quality. I set Windows' default sound to the JRiver WDM driver (or VAC, VB Cable...) and tried to loopback on the DLNA DAC, but I always get the error: Something went wrong with playback. Otherwise playing on DAC or loopbacks on local devices works

I found a topic here stating that loopback is only allowed on local zones, if I correctly understand that not for external DAC. So, is there any other way to do that?

hmm, Am I asking the wrong question, or has no one else tried using JRiver to route default Windows sound to a DAC?

If you use JRiver's WDM Driver (on the wiki), you can route all sound from the PC to any directly connected device.

DLNA devices work differently though.  They use a special protocol to send a file over the network to the DLNA Renderer.

There is  no way to do  what you want, and it won't produce better quality sound.  Just connect your DAC directly to your PC.

The WDM driver doesn't work over DLNA, unfortunately, as DLNA is file-based. Like Jim said to use it you'd have to directly connect the DAC to the PC in order to use the WDM driver.

I don't work for JRiver... I help keep the forums safe from "male enhancements" and other sources of sketchy pharmaceuticals.
