Gizmo Problem with Access Keys
« on: March 19, 2025, 04:08:13 pm »

My servers are listed under Choose a Server to Play from in the form of Severname (Access Key). The Access Keys are correct. But, when I click on a server name, it goes to the screen that requires me to manually enter an access key, rather than using the one listed in the selection option. This means I have to enter it manually each time I want to connect to a server.

I will add that for a few days this week every time I tried to access a server with an access key from Gizmo, it gave an error to check the access code, even though it was correct.  That makes me think that might have been some change in the access key server, but I cannot be sure. JRemote3 has worked fine throughout this process.

This is a new problem. I have been using Gizmo pretty much since it came out (2010) and I cannot remember having this problem before. I know it is an  old program but it is still my preferred Android interface most of the time.  Brilliant app when it first came out and still very good after all these years.

Anyone else seeing this?

It's possible that our server work recently is causing trouble.  Try rebooting.

I rebooted both my phone and one of the PCs. The problem persists.

Good to know that some server work was being done. That probably accounted for both of my problems.

Thanks.

The machine that looks up the Access Key is your server, so try rebooting that one.

I rebooted my PC and then tried to connect to it from Gizmo. No luck. I do not get an error message on Gizmo, it just goes to the screen to input an access key. That PC does fine on the Media Network "Test Connection to Server" option, so it seems to connect to the access key server OK.

I should add that when I type in the access key it connects immediately.

Well, it seems to partially work now. When I select a server, it  connects to a server without me having to enter the access code. Unfortunately, it always connects to the same server, which seems to be the first one in the list of my servers.

Back to where we were. It automatically connects to the last server it was connected to. But trying to choose a server from Choose a Server to Play From - gives the screen with a blank box for typing in the server access key.

The problem persists. Upon launch of Gizmo, it automatically loads the last Access Key site. If you try to select a different Server, it goes to the screen to type in a new Access Key. You then need to manually type in the Access Key.  This makes using Gizmo for more the one server very inconvenient.

I don't know if this is related to the recent server changes or not. But it would be nice to get it fixed.

Thanks.

Have you tried clearing the app's data and trying over again? A bit of a long shot, but it might change something.

Good thought, but it does not change anything. I cleared the data and then re-entered the access keys. Same result.

This only started happening with the recent server changes, so I really wonder if that somehow caused the problems.

Just tried it myself and it isn't working for me either.

JRemote3, Panel and MO 4Media all work.

Thanks for the confirmation. I can use Jremote3 but for most of what I do the simplicity of Gizmo is a good thing. Its hard to change after 14 years. And, most importantly, my wife uses Gizmo and does not want to be re-trained :)

Thanks.

It's not working here either.  Not sure why.

Maybe https: ?

JRemote3 works with the same server.  The server is in a different location.

Thanks for confirming.

In my case I have 2 servers on the same local network as Gizmo and 1 server at the remote location. Gizmo seems to show the same problem no matter which server I try to connect to.

Works for me.
Try doing a DNS lookup on webplay.jriver.com. Report results.

Code: [Select]
nslookup webplay.jriver.com
Server:  UnKnown
Address:  46.243.231.30

Non-authoritative answer:
Name:    media.jriver.com
Address:  50.211.23.185
Aliases:  webplay.jriver.com

Just tried again, and it doesn't work with the access key method. During the attempts I see the public IP address(es) it's trying to use, but I already know those public IP address(es) won't work because of my ISP using CGNAT and port forwarding won't work. It doesn't appear to be trying local IP addresses which would work.

If I manually input the local IP address and port, it connects right away and prompts for authentication, so at least that works.

dns-lookup.com reports an ip value of 50.211.23.185 on both my phone and my server.

The problem happens when trying to select either a local or a remote server from Chose a Server to Play From.

If I enter an access code manually it corrects correct for both local and remote servers.

The problem is that when selecting Mode and choosing a server from Choose a Server to Play From, it does not go to that server but to the page that asks you to put in access code manually.
