OT - Moving stinks

Well, the majority of stuff is at the new place. If I have to do it again within the next ten years, I'm just getting a roll-off dumpster and starting from scratch. Sanity would be in better shape and nothing would be dusty.

All in all it went better then expected. Only a few things were victimized. An old table and my dignity. That table came under fire when a mattress slipped and won the arguement. Good thing I know about glue and clamping stuff. The table is " T's" and originally from her grandmother. It's diminutive mahogany leg was no match for a couple of thugs with the oversized pillow and little time for looking.

The dignity part is something all together different, and probably not suitable for the forum in general. However, suffice it to say that my relatives and friends all had a terrific laugh at the expense of yours truly. And it was because of my friend - The Music Nut. I'll get even someday.... :P

Something I will need to get used to: TRAFFIC. After spending so many years at the farm, noise from vehicles was really non-existant. But, it was otherwise nice to sit in front of the fireplace and relax.

What the...pushing the shift key five times does weird things. Try it.

I was the mover

So i understand your state..It is a really unpleasant thing that to be the mover.
Here they charge fair price for moving,so i take a company FOR ALL,included put things in boxes.
But i remember than in France it is really very expensif.

Anyway you get your armchair in front of the fire now ,not bad!

All the best in your palace and Happy New Year

I'm looking at moving in with the girlfriend soon. Not sure how I feel about that, really. It's probably going to be a make it or break it thing for us. But then, isn't it for everybody?

My problem is that I am a bonafide packrat. I keep EVERYTHING, and I do mean everything. I have a candy wrapper that a girl once wrote a note to me on back in high school. I couldn't even tell you who she was now. That's how bad it is.

So, I've resolved that when I move, I'm only taking my clothes, home theatre system, PC, games, dvd's, and books. And all of my scuba gear, of course. The rest is going in boxes with a brief description of what's inside them, and a date. Everytime I open a box to get something out, I'm going to write that new date on the box. One year from that date (maybe 2 for souveneirs), if I haven't opened the box, I'm going to chuck it. I'm not even going to look inside.

For Looking Inside The Box is the one true weakness of the packrat (latin name: ratius packus). There is an actual documented brain difference in packrats than from other humans. We can actually hear the voices of all of our posessions. Everytime we stand with an item poised over the trash can, we hear that item speak to us, saying "Remeber that time..." or "It's ok. I'll still love you" and we wind up crumpled on the floor, clutching the aforementioned item, and crying at our own weakness, our reluctance to Let Go, and at the very thought of discarding an old friend, all at the same time. No. Never look inside the box. To do so is to invite all too certain doom.

Life will never be the same.

Keep all your stuff in a box because you will not get any closet space. We have 2 closets in our bed room (about 13x18 ) and my wife has both filled with her stuff.

I do have my own bedroom where i have my stuff \ cloths \ computer \ TV \ Couch etc.... (It's where I live 98% of the time I am home).

Doof,

It seems that the make it or break thing is what most guys think. It's exactly what I thought, about 15 years ago. She's still trying to break me though....Have to give her credit for determination.

KingSparta,

I concur with life never being the same. Whether that is good or bad is yet to be determined.  8)

Well, the last time I moved in with a gf, she went and morphed, seemingly overnight, from a nice fun-loving girl into a lifesucking, overbearing, she-demon.

So I know all too well, the possibilities that await me. And she wonders why I'm so determined to avoid signing a lease. :P
