Problems with Media Center being recognized by TIV
« on: September 01, 2003, 08:56:46 am »

I am currently having a problem with the Media Center Server not being recognized. I have been using my TIVO server from 3 different computers, and TIVO recognizes each PC and its published photos and music with no problem.

Iam trying to get the Media Center to work properly. Though all of settings look correct from my main PC, TIVO will not recognize the Media Center Server.

I just installed Media Center on my second computer, and configured it for TIVO as well. It works fine, and TIVO recognizes it and plays the files with no problem.

I am still using the trial version of Media Center, but will have to make a decision on purchasing it in about a week. However, the inability to get it to work from my main PC is a problem. Any suggestions as to why it would work from one machine, but not another?

I am running a Linksys router. The machine that I am having a problem with is connected through an ethernet cable while one of the others has a wireless USB adapter and the other is also wired/

I just downloaded the new 9.1 beta, and it cleared up all my problems. My TIVO now recognizes the Media Server, and it seems to me fine.  :) :) :)

Well, I guess that was not entirely correct. It did work fine until I rebooted the computer. The Media Server "faile to bind" and evidently there is a probelem with using the correct port. Here are the notices in the Media Server:
09/07/03 12:03:15 - cannot bind
09/07/03 12:03:19 - TiVo HTTP listener failed
09/07/03 12:03:19 - TiVo HTTP ready for connections

I have Media Ser er to automatically select the port, so I am not sure what to try next. Help!!  ? ?

Failed to bind means something else is using the same socket.

Is there any way to change the settings? Media Center should be recognizing the configuration automatically I would think.

Make sure you are not automatically starting the TiVo desktop.

Doesn't the TIVO server have to be running before the Media Server? My Tivo server starts automatically when I turn on the computer.

I just rebooted, and everything is working fine again. Media Server is showing up on my TV and so is TIVO. I hope that it stays that way!!

There are two pieces to the TiVo Server, the beacon, running on port 2190, and the desktop, running on some other port (8180 I think, maybe 8080).

I was guessing that the second piece was conflicting with Media Server.
