Nomad Zen: Totally Broken
« on: October 19, 2003, 05:50:58 am »

MC Version 2.1.281
Zen Plugin Version: 9.0.26
Windows XP Pro: ALL Current patches applied

Issue 1: After synchronizing with the Zen, MC9 crashes (completely closes and shuts down).  Sometimes it happens immediately after the sync operation without further user interaction.  Sometimes it waits until the user clicks anywhere on MC9 before crashing and shutting down.

Issue 2: Tag information is being transfered and overwritten oncorrectly on the Zen.  Some "multiple artist" albums appear as "multiple Artists" instead of the actual artist information.  4 different tag editors have been used to try and reset the tags on these files and both (ID3v1 & ID3v2) tags have been updated.  ALL other Zen software trasnfer these specific files with the correct tag inforation.  As soon as MC9 touches these same files in a sync opration, the tag info goes from the specific artist to the generic "multiple artists."

Issue 1 - I cannot duplicate this. However, in testing this, I found a bug in the refresh of the view of the synchronization. MC did not crash, but would fail to refresh the screen properly. I fixed this and included it in the new Plugin that is now posted (9.0.27). Please download this and give it a try.

Issue 2 - MC by default assigns the Artist Album(auto) field to 'Artist' on Nomad Zen.  If you do not want this behavior, you can opt to have 'Artist' always assigned to 'Artist' in Nomad by right clicking on 'Nomad Jukebox' in MC and selecting 'Artist' as the option under 'Select Artist Field'.

Thanks for the updated plugin, which considerably sped up the speed on syncing the Zen.  However, the crashing issue remains.  Every single time I perform a syncing operation to the Zen, MC9 "unloads" itself completely within a few minutes.  This ONLY happens after a sync operation to Zen, and it REQUIRES mouse interaction.  If I Sync and do not, in any way, click anywhere on MC9, MC9 can stay running for hours.  It does not always happen on the first click, sometimes it takes as many as ten, but eventually within these ten mouse clicks MC9 unloads fully.  By mouse clicks, I mean normal navigation within MC9, like moving trhough the media library, and vieweing playlists.

One pattern is this: MC9 crashes more quickly ig my clicks after the syncing operation are on the Zen itself, such as vieweing playlists on the Zen.  It takes longer for MC9 to crash if I avoid clicking on the Zen and only click on PC ralated items, such as my main library.

The only other details I can think of adding is that I use firewire to connect the Zen, and that my libary is on a mapped network drive to a machine running Windows Server 2003.

Thanks for the information on how to "fix" the multiple artists tag issue.

Have you checked for updated software for the Zen?

Zenuser,

I cannot duplicate this. I will try on some different systems. Can you retest with MC 9.1.289 and let me know if you can still reproduce this problem?

Thanks,

Steve
