confusion & disorder re. skins, track info
« on: November 15, 2003, 01:55:56 pm »

I suppose that MC 9.1 is getting pretty established by now.

But I really feel a need for better facilities re skins and track info templates. There is a dedicated MC section for track info - I managed to find that page, but both bluesteel track info templates doesnt work with 9.1.304 - at least that's what MC tells me after having downloaded them.

Re skins, I think its about time to have a dedicated section for 9.1 skins in the website. Maybe I was unable to find such a dedicated page, I doubt very much that it is there, as I have spent much time (too much) to look for it.

It is my understanding that MC is not solely made for programmers who can make their own skins and track info templates. Therefore I would really appreciate that more considerations are taken for common users, who are unable to design own templates and skins, and at least provide dedicated pages where a few different skins and templates are available.

Also, the Blue Steel track infos don't work initially because the install is a bit wonky - it creates two nested folders instead of one.

Go to C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center\Visualizations\Track Info.
Open the folder for Push's Blue Steel.
You'll probably just see one more folder inside that one.
Open the second folder as well (also called Push's Blue Steel)
Copy all the contents. (Index.html, generated.html, album.css, artist.css, title.css)
Back up one level to the first folder.
Paste the contents there.

It should work now.

I can't see any real improvements - now a little over two months after this post. There is only one mega me skin posted in the MC page.
I am aware that more can be found in the third party section, but I cannot see the purpose of a skin section in the MC site, where there is only one, and then several more found different places in the third party section of the forum.

Same goes for track info templates.

In MC 9.316 in skin manager, hitting the download more skins, the link is going to the old MJ skin page.

When do you expect to create a better organization and order re skins and track info templates?

I'd love to see a fully comprehensice skin page. I am using the Windows Media skin and it makes all the difference in the world in the aesthetics of MC. I wont go back to the old skins. However, I had to dig deep in the forums to find these skins. Hopefully soon they will be easy to find and download off of the MC web site.

I think the general servicelevel has been lowered over the last year or so, and this reply is a good example of that.

That kind of remark to a paying customer is in my opinion not ok.

"We've got a lot to do" = You are not important and what you ask is not important

"It will get done" = Sometime in the future when we haven't got a lot to do...

I would be fairly happy to get:

a) An acknowledgement that you actually acknowledge the problem, and acknowledge the fact that you are delayed in handling it.

b) A timeframe as to when to expect more structure and order within skins, trackinfos.

The other answer is just not good enough. Having my own business, I know that if I gave a customer that kind of answer, the customer would perceive the company as arrogant, not interested in business with the customer.

That is not how I see JRiver, so I am sad and confused about that.
