Liscence issues sorted for us v8 holders. Thanks. Not had too long to play, got work to get to, couple of things I ran into almost immediately......

Favourites
My computer has moved from the tree root to being a child of "drives and devices". This has broken all the favourites that point to there. In the organise favourites dialogue, the location is not editable. Is there any easy way to fix these or do I have to remove them all and rebuild the list?

Action Window
From the root, clicking "File Properties" takes us to another sub-menu; Image, stats, tag info, etc etc. Click on image, the window does not resize properly until you move away from image, then back again. can't really make out a 16x16 thumb ;). From "image", or any other file properties option, clicking "back" skips past the file properties menu and bounces to the AW home screen.

Posted this on an earlier build of 9.1 but it's still not fixed.

Sorting, when you're choosing not to display articles ("the") is not working properly.  Under Artists (Grouped), if you select the option to display "All" in the Artist pane, it works fine.  So my list goes AC/DC, The Auteurs, Baader Meinhof, The Beach Boys and so on.

But if you choose one of the other options like A-C, D-F, etc, the sorting doesn't work.  So, using the same example, The Auteurs and The Beach Boys do not appear under A-C as they should, but under S-U.  Even stranger, within S-U, they all appear at the top of the listing, apart from those that actually begin with S-U.  So "The Auteurs" appears at the TOP of the S-U listing, while "The Stranglers" appears alphabetically where Stranglers should be.

Very odd.  Not a major problem, but odd.

Also, the splash screen and the Help/About (apart from the title bar) still say version 9.1.  I guess you are probably aware of this though.  :)

I like the what you've done to the tree.  I like how you've hidden the misc items under Drives and Devices.

I also like how you removed a layer in the tree under Media Library.  I had asked for the option to hide the Video and Images icons...  but I'm now kinda puzzled where they went.  I tried to create new view schemes, but it looks like the image and video files that I had are no longer in the library (no big loss for me).

The categories toolbar in the upper right doesn't show icons.  But I like that you have buttons for Playing Now, Media Library, etc.

How long will this build work for those of us using older V8 licenses that work for V9 and now hopefully V10 (at least until we can buy a V10 license)?  30 days?  Longer?  I'm going to be out of the country for a month here pretty soon and I don't want to have it expire on me (or more importantly my wife :)) while I'm gone...

-John

Edit:  Install and all your questions will be answered :)  According to the warning dialog I received, it will expire on 1/4/04...  Hopefully another beta will come out this week that will extend that date a week, or so, then I should be set :)

When I did have v10 installed, it did a "Saving tags (2 of 1)"..or something like that and crashed MC. Not sure how I got it like that but it's in there somewhere.

I don't have the money right now to go to v10 so I'll be sticking with 9 for awhile.

Sounds like you have the Media Mode set to Audio. That's the toolbar in the upper right that you mentioned.

TV Tuner button in toolbar doesn't work anymore

When recording a TV show via Media scheduler, it doesn't import into MC anymore like it used to do.

So far everything looks good. After the lauch I see a message that the Beta will expire sometime in January - thats OK. After this I get a popup that I should upgrade to 9.1.204. So this check should validate against the newest 10.x not 9.1.

Is it planned to share the custom views between the "old" mode and the new media modes? Just curious.

Just installed it.
The 'media mode' I can see going great places.
It'll be a cool feature.

One thing I noticed though is that clicking on it gives me TOTALLY new view schemes and I'd have to seperately create schemes here AS WELL as in the all media schemes.

Any chance of just letting us have an option with our view schemes as to which modes they appear in?

Then I could make all my existing ones appear in the appropriate modes?

After MC10 crashes it leaves remnants running which prevent it being re-started without a reboot. I have had this occur since I installed v10 on the first build and it continues with this build.

When updating tags, MC10 reports 'Saving Tag Changes File 1 of 2', then 'Saving Tag Changes File 2 of 2' even though only ONE file was tagged.

Maybe it's a misunderstanding, but the audio button in the Toolbar shows another tree then the audio tree under Media Library. Shouldn't they be the same ?

I am so happy with MC 9, I have implored many of my friends to immediately switch from whatever jukebox and adopt MC.  I don't know how you can improve it.  Great job on terrific product.

So with that, what are the breakthrough features of MC 10?  How does it compare to MC 9, and why should I consider upgrading (or is it an upgrade)?

Thanks again for the superb products.

Some data CD burning issues:

Burning a data CD puts an .m3u playlist on the CD.  There doesn't seem to be an option to get rid of this.  Sometimes I use MC to back up audio files from my production/DJing work and I have zero need for an .m3u on the CD.

Also, I set the CD folder naming to be "None" but with each successive burn, it reverts to the original even though "None" is still selected.  Re-selecting "None" sets the CD Folder to be the root of the CD, which is what I want, but it causes a .txt file I want to be written to disappear from the list.  If I leave the .txt file in its original folder it stays.  To get the .txt file to appear in the CD's root folder, I had to move it to the root of the hard drive (rather than /temp).
