Media Center 10.0.15 beta available
« on: December 12, 2003, 06:31:26 pm »

Media Center 10.0.15 beta is available.

This is a beta.  Avoid this if problems, changes, or crashes will upset you.  Do NOT try this if you aren't prepared for trouble.

The latest known stable version of 9.1 is here:
http://www.musicex.com/mediacenter/download.html

Please check the license and price thread before you download:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=17336

The latest beta of 10 is here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter10015.exe

10.0.14 (12/11/03)

1. Changed: Hairstyle options moved to separate dialog. (available via display right-click for now)

6. Changed: Spacebar / Play button plays selection when viewing Hairstyle.
7. Changed: Added "Pause" command to remote control setup. (MCC_SET_PAUSE with -1 now toggles pause)

Matt deserves a big thanks for putting in the extra effort to get this out late on a Friday.  ( I wasn't there today, so I hope he wasn't three hours late to work. )  ;)

Since y'all are giving the TV function and Hairstyle more attention maybe you could address this issue.  I have a Leadtek WinFast TV2000XP tuner card with the audio connected to the line-in on my sound card.  When I switch to TV in MC, it unmutes the line-in like it should, but when I stop watching TV it doesn't mute it and I get some annoying static in everything I listen to.  Could you please fix this as it is a hassle to open the control panel and mute the line-in manually?

In correcting my prior bug report, MC does not properly parse dates for january 1st.  every other date in january is fine.  but for some reason, mc does not like 1-1-19xx, nor does it like 01-01-19xx

MC still crashes with a "cannot create plugin error" any time a cd is inserted or removed.  seems to be initiated by setting ripping mode to secure, though setting it back doesnt fix the problem.

Just two bugs that I've come across:

Editing tags inline always crashes MC.

http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=17577

Having some trouble with search rules in view scheme properties.

I created a semicolon delimited field called Artist (related). For example, I have tracks by Tenacious D and I also have tracks by Jack Black (who is a member of Tenacious D). So for the Jack Black tracks I put Tenacious D in the Artist (related) field. Then in view scheme properties I set the file search rules to Artist: Tenacious D and Artist (related): Tenacious D, which should give me a view scheme that only shows both Tenacious D tracks and Jack Black tracks. However, for some reason, when I add the Artist (related) search parameter I get an empty view scheme. The weird thing is that I have the same type of view schemes for other artists that were created using 9.1 and they still work in 10, but creating the scheme in 10 doesn't work.

This is MC's 'trick' for showing only year sometimes, only date sometimes, and a full date and time other times.  You need to give it a time for it to actually display 01-01.  Normally it should do this automatically though.  Where isn't it?

Hairstyle causes me a significant slowdown when displaying video icons.  It's like thirty seconds delay every time I move along the tree.

It's not just the first time is it when it's building thumbs for the once (and only) time is it?  Otherwise, can you isolate certain files?

Thanks for the build, Matt.

The pane divider doesn't go all the way up in view schemes. I thought it was my system but it's happening on my other pc too.

It's not supposed to.  You need to click the arrows to hide it.

I'm not sure if it's better or worse that way.

Very strange...  while trying to whittle down the videos, I deleted the standard VSs (Calander, Genre/Album/Year, and Disk Location).  I also deleted the columns from the Media Library VS.  The problem went away.  I returned the VSs and the problem stayed away.  I don't remember what columns were being shown in the Media Library VS - so I couldn't put them back.

Could it be there was some sort of corruption on one of the standard VSs?  A p[roblem with a column on the Media Library VS?

Anyway, problem fixed!

I tried to add a new field (semi colon delimited).  When I tried to use the panes and add entries to the field I got a Media core failure.

Also when I restart mc it also restarts in the Start screen even though I have it set to start in the last location, this case it should be media library.  It happens when the crash above doesn't happen and when it does.

There are still displayed wrong playing times fore some mpc-files. This is the fourth and final notification about this.
Example file cannot provided anymore, because i converted all to monkey audio. These work allways.

What would be really helpful for some of us interested in the new 10 beta but who still have the requirement of stable running systems, would be a post every few versions that picks out a "more or less" stable beta for the non-techie masses to try...

Thanks, nick

New Hairstyle rocks - seems more intuitive. Still needs a good way to display the currently playing song, but things are looking good!

BUG: I've noticed something a bit odd - I'm using an HDTV at 1600 x 900 resolution, and the thumbnails in Hairstyle seem to be calculated in relation to that. So while the text looks perfectly fine and in proportion, the thumbnails are all stretched out. I'll take a picture and send it in. The thumbnails in other views look OK.

BUG: Hairstyle seems to generate the thumbnails for the first screenful only - when I scroll up I just get the question mark icon.

When trying to add an icon to the area just under the search bar (with Audio, Video etc) if there isn't enough space for it to fit, the graphics get messed up.

I guess that it should make the big info bar to the left shrink, but instead, the icon i want to add, doesnt even show up.

When Using The Clean Option To UCase Each Word

The Clean Option Converts The Tag To:

The_new_adventures_of_nero_wolfe_1950_-_1951

when the desired effect should be

The_New_Adventures_Of_Nero_Wolfe_1950_-_1951

=========================================

The "_" under case is to keep the files in FTP\HTTP server compatable and requires multi passes to get th file names to the proper case.

I have had this issue with all of the 10 beta versions.  Irritating because (apparently unlike many users) I just use the Columns to set up and populate the tree-views.

I figured that it was just a work in progress  ...

MC still crashes with a "cannot create plugin error" any time a cd is inserted or removed.  seems to be initiated by setting ripping mode to secure, though setting it back doesnt fix the problem.

I am experiencing the same crash, though for me it occurs at the end of ripping a CD, and I've never put it into secure mode.

Hairstyle bugs...

  • When returning from FS to HS the PIP disappears.  Only returns when you click a button.
  • Is there a simple way to switch just between HS and FS without seing Mega Me at all?
  • It would be good yo be able to set up HS specific VS.
  • The pip is not updating properly.
  • Options don't work straight away e.g. if you change the thumbnail size it does not change until you switch to a differnet node.

If anything else comes to me Ill add it.  Cheers for all your efforts here...it is much better now!!

This is a FAQ...  which makes we wonder why there isn't a FAQ.

Anyway, the "menu" key (which is to the left of the right-control key) toggles between FS and HS.  You can use Girder to do this - send the special key "APPS".  There was supposed to be a MCC command to do this, but I never got it to work.

The auto-hiding bar at the bottom of the playing now window (which displays visualizations and video) can be clicked and dragged by its bottom row of pixels.

In full screen mode, it's easy to do by clicking at the bottom of the screen and dragging up.  It takes skill to do it in internal mode.  Either way, it's probably not an intended feature.

DVD playback seems to be broken.

I'm using Intervideo WinDVD Platinum. DVDs play back fine within that program, but when I try to play a DVD from within Media Center I get a total system lockup, mouse cursor freezes, etc.

As per my earlier post regarding Hairstyle thumbnails, here is an illustration:

http://villamil.org/hairstyle.JPG

Note how all the elements on the screen are correctly drawn, except that the thumbnails and the visualization window are stretched out in the same proportion as the overall window.

Also, look at:

http://villamil.org/mega-me.JPG

Same PC, same screen. The thumbnails are correctly drawn, but the frame around them seems elongated. Since CD cover art is almost always square, wouldn't it make sense to have the frame be square? (or absent...)

Trying to customize the catagories toolbar results in a no show for say tag info. READ: No button shows up for the party. Maybe should have these list only what is available for the respective toolbar.

Is Action Window no longer able to go into windowed mode? This hurts...

Back buttons are desperately needed for some of the file info areas of the A.W. The navigation down there is very confusing when doing any tagging. Note, I know that there is a tagging mode. I personally feel better about doing any tagging in the file properties myself.

Hairstyle is much better, thanks
One problem I am having is that if thumnails are on and the title something is long, it displays one line then ...
If a lot of titles are similar with say episode numbers after the title, you cannot see them.

Also would it be possible for the video display to remember the last mode it was in, i.e internal, full-screen, windowed or Hairstyle. I've noticed that it does with avi's (after the first play, and when a video is still runing) but not mpegs. For example, this way you can have a quick look at some videos before you full screen it for watching. I find it a bit annoying that when you select windowed for viewing, media jukebox minimises.

Thanks for listening

Hey guys, I went ahead and downloaded the beta 10 and so far impressed, been using snapstream (bad quality) and showshifter (good program) for a long time now, but after seeing this program, I am pleased that tv tuner support has been added. I have not tried the divx recording yet, but hopefully it will work ok.

I do have a strange problem...I am playing a dvd called star wars and the audio is great, but I can not hear the speech side of the audio very well. The music, sound effects just drown out the speech part of the dvd. It has great THX....it rock's, but i can hardly hear the talking part.

anyone have a clue as where to try to fix it.

I have intervideo's dvd  xpack installed, as well as cyberlink's programs. I can not get the dvd options to show up in the tools>options>playback. Nothing is in the about box, and the audio playback, tells me to stop dvd and try again...still no info availible.

am I missing something or is this a bug or something.

any ideas would be helpfull....very nice program

Bugs
1. The "My Computer" toolbar button sends to "plugins" tree node (as does ctrl + 6)
2. [date] field not being saved to file. (this option is off by default, but I want it on, so I turned it on. It's not working)
3. tagging mode: select files (audio) with different dates. The pane shows selected dates. Clicking any available date sets all dates to "unassigned"
4. streaming wma very hit & miss. No digitallyimported wma streams currently work. When a stream that does work is found, MC reports only "wma stream" in player area. Windows media player will display stream related info for the same streams.
5. streaming .ram audio. MC initially catalogues these as video streams. After changing the filetype to audio, vizualisations still don't play.
6. The category toolbar does not allow new buttons to be added (messes up the display somewhat)
7. Action Window: go into any sub-section of file properties. Clicking back returns to AW home, not File Properties' home

Minor Annoyance
1. Rip CD (bug?): Insert audio disc, click on "rip cd". The "norm" up to now has been for MC to automatically parse cd-rom drives and present them for ripping. Now, I get a "no files selected" dialogue and must select the drive to rip from prior to ripping

Wishlist
1. rename files from properties: Can we have an MRU button (for recently used locations) next to the browse button for "base directory"
2. remember category bar state across sessions (not reset to "all")
3. remember action window state across sessions
4. remember right-click MRU across sessions
5. Auto-complete: Would be neat if this could also "auto-dropdown" and filter the list. (I always forget to drop-down first and think auto-complete is broke)

My RiceLyrics display-plugin crashes everytime I try to use the lyrics-search option.
My IE is Dutch, so I have to try to translate the failure-message: 'Failure in script for IE'
Failure: Object is expected

Was no problem up til version 10.0.13 (didn't use 10.0.14).

Is this a MC-bug or do I have to adjust something myself?

When using Tools, Advanced Tools, Convert Format nothing happens (except that there's a lot of activity on my harddisk) and  Media Center 10.0.15 locks up.

Check the Windows audio controls.  You may have the balance shifted right or left.

First placed I looked...tested same dvd's in showshifter, snapstream and the new intervideo home theater 2.0...they all play the dvd sound perfectly. So does MC10, with the exception of weak speech or voice effects. The 5.1 kicks on my sounds system with MC 10, its just that something tweaking the audio specvtrem some how. I suspect it has something to do with directx filters, so I am tracking them down and will post what I find.

Thanks for the response though.

BUG:
- International characters are not displayed correctly.  What SHOULD be Gléasaigi in a song title on the NOW PLAYING list is shown as something funky with a copyright symbol and such.

SUGGESTION:
- On Playing Now, please list hours and minutes; instead of 2636:47, I'd prefer 43h:56m:47s.  It doesn't take up that much more space.  Maybe this could toggle with clicks?
