I set up a command to play Playlists\Auto Smartlist (music) which works fine using the first method I described, when you use the command
/PlayReplace TREEPATH=Playlists\Auto Smartlist (music)
its starts playing my whole library, video n all!
Rich
does this with /play TREEPATH=Playlists\Auto Smartlist (music) too now.

There is hope for guys over 50.  With Matt's help, I've patched the build and restored the link to the build above.  It should fix the problem for which Matt pulled the build (crash on image playback).

Good luck.

Thanks Jim -- it's looking good here.

Just a note that the Ken Burn's image transitions won't be there until the next build now.

Doesn't appear to be.   iPOD sync also seems to be broken.  MC just closes when I try.

I realize the Rip in Action Window is a work-in-progress. A few observations:

1. Tags such as artist and other information aren't being saved after a rip.
2. With the floating pallette option before, I could tag while ripping, no more. This isn't good, I hope this changes.
3. Probably related to#2 but moving around in MC while ripping is tediously slow, unlike before when it was just slow  ;)

Other than that, nische!

These two problems still exist in 10.0.31

Ctrl-del & shift-ins work great in the search box, thanks.
However shift-del doesn't cut, only deletes (ie I 'cut' something with shift-del and paste with shift-ins and get some old clipboard text).

Quote
Also in the search box... if you click in it somewhere so there's a cursor, then hold down shift and click somewhere else in it, it doesn't select the text in between as one expects it would.

It's hard to tell because I can't compare them side by side... but I think the thumbnails look better now (the ones I scanned myself are around 900x900 - a few at 1400x1400,) although it could be psycological :P)

The "Rip CD" icon in the Action Window is wrong (it's the same as the Burn CD icon).

I've ripped two cd's with the new AW ripping now... a couple of points:

Bug
-----
Both cd's ripped fine, but were not tagged and no info from the cd was added to the MC fields... eg Artist/Album name were set in the CD (under Drives & Devices) yet were empty on the ripped files.  (using secure rip/rip & encode to ogg).

Ideas
-------
I was a bit adverse to the AW ripping at first... but I think I might like it... it is missing a couple of things though... I liked being able to see what files were done & which may have failed in a list - maybe an option of seeing the list whilst burning (ala the old rip window, just able to be closed without stopping the rip and opening with the 'Show Files' option in the rip AW)?

It would be nice to see what cd rip/encode options were set without going into the options (I rarely change them myself, but sometimes I like to check to make sure)... eg have a short string at the top of the rip AW before the rip starts that says eg: 'Secure rip & encode to OGG'.

This applies to the old ripping (I assume it hasn't changed... great if it has): when secure ripping a damaged cd the rip for each track can take a long time (tried and retrying) so I'd like to be able to just let the cd rip overnight... however I can't do this, because as soon as any track fails MC will present a dialog box I have to click.  I'd like to be able to override this and just tell MC to keep ripping after a failed track and just present me with the log at the end, then I can decide what to do with the failed tracks.  [ there are a few other situations in MC where this kind of override (or at least a 'Yes to All' option) would come in extremely handy - though I can't remember right now, I need a memory upgrade :) ]

Those are some seriously nice looking thumbnails.

However, when I was playing with changing the thumbnail size to see how nice they really are, I was reminded of a pet annoyance.
I think that the View and Edit sub-menus should be accessible when right-clicking on an empty portion of the content window. Right now, you have to select a file and right click on it before you can change a global option like thumbnail size. This just doesn't feel right, as I am applying it to the whole window, not just that one thumbnail.

My two cents worth of usability advice :)

Looks like you guys are having some serious display issues in this build :)

The visualisations window doesn't show the coverart when in "None" mode (except when you startup - once you start playing a song, it just goes white). The 3D visualisations are suffering from the same thing, except that they eventually crash the entire program.

I'm having troubles playing some files with this build...

Specifically it seems to crash every time I play an 'Old Time Radio' file... eg: "1950-04-08 (0001) - Dimension_X_1950_-_1951 - Outer Limit, The.mp3" (from KingSparta)... can anyone else confirm this? (these files play fine in all my other mp3 players, including Winamp 5)

MC seems to play the majority of my files fine... just noticed these few dying.

I can't reproduce either, and I'm using a similar P4 / XP machine.  Anyone else seeing this, or any other display anomalies that they didn't see in past builds?

Okay, found the problem.. still a bug, just a different one :)

I uninstalled MC a while back (fully) which deleted the coverart for some of my files (which I usually store in a separate dir, don't know why they were there...). The file I was playing was a file that contained a reference to one of these missing coverart images. Looks like 3d visualisations crash when the coverart can't be found.

My bad (kinda),

Scott.

CD Ripping:-

1. Confirm tagging info is lost.
2. Used to like the way that recently rippied tracks were displayed once a rip was complete - now no more in this AW ripping style.
3. Now difficult to delete/add tracks to the rip - used to be very easy in the ripping window using the ticks against the tracks. In this AW style once I'd deleted a track (takes more clicks to do this as well) couldn't find a way to add it again when I changed my mind.

I've mentioned this a few times and it's still really bugging me.

The "Articles Off" option only works properly if you're looking at a complete list of artists.  If you're using a View Scheme with Grouping enabled, and you're looking at one of the groups like A-C, D-F etc, it doesn't work properly.  All the artists beginning with The get sorted under S-U.

This has been happening since Articles Off was introduced near the end of the 9.1 development.

I attempted to use the auto-ripping to rip some more of my cd's with this build, and to see how the AW rip way handles auto-ripping.  Conclusion: it doesn't... it just presented me with the rip AW and a rip button but didn't do anything.  The auto-rip was one of the most handy features for expiditing the riping of your cd library... I have reinstalled a previous build to keep ripping.

I also agree with sirshambling with the ticking, this way a very easy way to quickly change ones mind on what tracks to rip when manually ripping.  I kinda like the idea of integrating the ripping into an AW, but I think the old way is still much better at the moment.

Still cannot import AAC files. Note: these files were created with Nero encoder. Does it specifically have to be a Quicktime created file for MC to import?

Can MC use a different directshow source? Nero encoded files are true VBR and NON-DRM.

Yes! Yes!

I actually had to go back to 30. I'm in the middle of ripping about 2000 CDs to APE and can't work with the implimentation the way it is now (not saving tags, can't seem to edit tags of other files using the AW while ripping, etc.).

I also liked seeing the progress of the rip on a file by file basis, however, the checkbox to add/delete files from the rip was the most important feature.

Regarding performance, I'll keep an eye out, I've restarted my system for a new day of rippin' and taggin'

When MC starts in a system where the shortcut key utility WinKey is loaded and running, MC returns the error that the key binding Win+F9 cannot be acquired (that's ok), but then MC crashes with runtime error.

The first I already asked but got no answers, a bigger Search bar, veeery important

The second, to allow to sort the albums when the view style is in Album thumbnails, like a righ click and allow to sort in different ways.

Hmm... I haven't got 10.0.31 running at the moment, but I don't recall having any problems ripping & tagging in the AW... except the fact that you can't see both at the same time (which I assume is the problem you are all seeing?) It would be nice to see both AW panes at the same time, as well as for other situations, IE keeping the image file AW open whilst tagging too.

This could also be solved by dockable/floating AW windows :)  (NB: dockable floating windows so that they could look exactly the same as they do now, one could just 'unlock' them [ala windows task bar?] and them move them around where you want, either docked where they are [or somewhere else? though I image this would be harder] or floating somewhere else - best of both worlds)

Had my first MC coaster this evening trying to burn a Playlist with build 31. Only 6 tracks burnt fully, although the progress in the AW went through apparently OK. The 7th just stopped after 1m 45s - playing the track caused MC to crash. CD won't play past track 6 on any of my other players.

Went back to build 30 burnt the same playlist flawlessly.

In addition to the file properties not being remembered on a rip, the cover art on a new rip is always the same (and not correct unless you just happened to rip that specific CD :))

Today I was made to feel incredibly stupid by Media Center.

I right-clicked on a CD and hit "Rip CD..." and waited about a full minute and a half for the CD rip dialog to come up.
It was only after having a real good look around that I noticed that the Action Window had in fact changed.

As it's been noted many times in the past couple of days, a "..." means that a new dialog will pop up. It didn't. Suggest changing name of function to something like "Rip CD via Action Window".

When MC is in full screen mode you cannot access the Windows Task Bar if it is using 'Auto-Hide'.

Ah! I was wondering where that occasional fringe on my taskbar came from!

BUG:

MC hangs completely when trying to create a smartlist.

To reproduce do as follows:

-Right click on "Playlists" and select "Add Smartlist"
-Leave all the fields as they are and in Rules click the drop arrow and go to the menu "Add Rule\Advanced\Lyrics"
-Now MC will hang without recovery, Task manager is required to end the process

PS: Will we have a bigger search bar back?

Oooops, about my previous posted bug of Smarlists, nothing to worry, after I typing it, I returned to MC and it was there working fine, so more than a bug is just a very long delay with no screen painting, possibly cos I got over 4000 lyrics, so is just a speed problem and not a bug. Sorry for the inconvinience.

Scott.

I agree with this. Also, when you select 'burn cd...' from the toolbar, the action window goes straight to 'drag files here' and doesnt give the option of data or audio cd.

Created a new playlist, used SendTo to add Albums from the media library.
Created another playlist, used SendTo to add Albums from the media library.
Decided to add album to first playlist, dragged artist from View Scheme with tree expanded, to playlist in Playlists.

Album not added to playlist, instead contents of playlist doubled so every previous album appeared in playlist twice.

Stop button in skins should be a square icon, not filled circle. Filled circle is for recording.

Why don't View Items have a sort direction associated with them so when you create e.g. a year column, you can have most recent years at the top?

Burn a 707MB playlist onto a CD. When warning comes up about exceeding CD capacity, say No to continuing. When question to clear queue comes up, say No again. Action Window shows Burn progress bar with Cancel button - pressing cancel updates status in AW with cancelling operation, but nothing else happens.

Why is question to clear queue asked immediately after selecting to burn CD? If I say yes, will it still know what to burn? Why ask immediately and also give an option at end of burn?

Interaction between the Close CD option in the Burn CD Action Window and the eject after writing option in Settings does not seem very useful. Warning seems to indicate I will close my empty CD if I select Close CD option before burning - so how do I burn a closed CD and eject?

And doesn't closing a CD after writing take more CD space than closing during writing?

I can not transfer to my handheld - which shows up as a drive under drives and devices.  The upload icon is gone as well as the info telling me how much space is there.

I would list this as a major bug.

After adding my handheld to MC, I got a camera icon in the action window (and no handheld icon) and I have no camera plug-in or camera attached to my system.

I agree with this. Also, when you select 'burn cd...' from the toolbar, the action window goes straight to 'drag files here' and doesnt give the option of data or audio cd.

What would be cool but probably won't happen because I don't know how confusing it would be would be the following:

If you right click to burn, then the "old" way of burning appears. I.E. the popup window. This way, you could still easily select, deselect individual tracks to rip and can do other things that require the AW, like tagging recently ripped CDs while another CD is being ripped.

Second method would be to use the AW exclusivly. I'm not seeing as much of a benefit to using the AW for rips as I do for burns, but I realize it is still being developed.

Agree with someone's remark about the icon, but I'm sure this was placed to expidite the availability of the feature.
