video-audio sync trouble
« on: January 19, 2004, 04:43:49 pm »

Hi,

When I try to play video through MC for a lot of files the video falls behind the audio.

This also happens when I try to play the same files in Windows Media Player 9.

However when playing the files in Media Player Classic there are no sync troubles.

Why is this happening? What can I do to fix this problem?

Cheers.

I have sim. probs.

Audio will stop on 2nd or 3rd one , video keeps rolling then stops with sys hang. (mpeg2)

Back in Aug. , I traced this to WMP and JimH informed me that MC was no longer using WMP.

So I tried 9.1.241 and 9.1.242.

The prob was solved.

Now in MC10 the prob. is back.

Posted this in the 10.0.27 thread, but never got a responce.

Well you still can play them one at a time.

Jim can you shed some light on this?

Thanks
Griff

I can't even play them one at a time - it mainly depends on the file.  The same files will either lose sync or be fine, always.

I'll check later today (after work) which formats lose sync and which are ok.

OK, having looked at the formats it is safe to say that I am only having trouble with mpg files.

As I said above they lose sync when played in MC or WMP9, but not when played in 'Media Player Classic'.

Any help would be great!

ok - my fault  ;D

In my quest to play realmedia and quicktime without installing their software I got a codec pack which (without me knowing) fiddled with some mpeg settings.  I've now changed the options of the codec pack and everything is now fine (and I can still play real and qt - woohoo)

Sorted now, sorry to have troubled you.

Thanks very much for reporting the solution.  It may help someone else with the same problem.

I've just played some mpg files for the last 25 minutes (5 files in total) and everything is still playing OK.  I have also now skipped a few vids with no bad results.

All in all .... my video play-back is fine.

I am however not running the very most recent beta.  I am running 10.0.27 (which, coincidentely, is where you first reported the problem).

If you have any codec packs installed I recommend re-installing the same pack (or indeed a different one) but only choose the codecs which you know you want.

Hi Dedidio

Thanks for the info.

Downloaded some mpegs.

No prob. with them.

Just seems to be Mpeg2. (Which all my stuff are)
