I just installed the Dell Digital Jukebox on my HP at home and was unable to get MJ8 to recognize the handheld.  I had to use the MusicMatch software that it comes bundled with.

Does anyone know if I have to upgrade to MC in order to see the Dell?

I am going to try Windows Media Player tonight, all the reviews I have read say that that program will work with the Dell.

Would really love to see this player recognized by Media Jukebox, I don't want to teach my wife a new software to burn cd's with.
Thanks,
FZ

FZ,

We will need to write a plugin for the Dell.

Steve,

for version 8 (Jukebox), or version 10 (Center), or both?

For both, but the focus will be on 10 first.

Thanks,
I did install the Media Center trial version and it recognized the Dell.

My question now is why can I import songs onto the Dell but can't create playlists from Media Jukebox?  A column is shown for playlists but can't access it or make changes.  When I click on a song that I have transferred to the Dell, the only thing I can do is delete the song.

I must switch over to MusicMatch in order to manipulate the songs that I transferred using MC.

I do like the upgraded version and will probably purchase.  I like how I can easily tell if a song's link is invalid and I can either reload the song or delete it from MC.  In version 8, there wasn't any way to know if a song was deleted from the HD until I clicked on it.

Thanks,

FZ,

From within MC if you see the Dell, you are accessing it as a WMDM device which is a standard Windows way of accessing the player. It does not support Playlists, which is why you cannot use it for playlists. We will need to right a custom plugin to make this happen.

Thanks Steve, I will keep an eye out for any updates and keep checking the supported players list for the Dell.

...But how does the Dell Jukebox sound?
I'm currently in the market to purchase a music player.
I imagine most have their own personality, but I feel that
a good equilizer/dsp is a must when playing lossy mp3s?
Am I wrong?  My experience is that without either, mp3s,
even VBR normal/high are tinny and flat without them.

I have listened a few times to it (it's my wife's) and think the sound is good.  I am trying to get her to upgrade the headphones, the one's they send are pretty basic but she is hard to please.

I have been using teh Dell DJ for ablut 2 months and prefer it to my former  iPod.  The sound is similar, but the battery life is far superior (15-16 hours), the casing is more substantial, and some of the  features are a little more user friendly. It is also mcuh cheaper.

I use Dudebox as my downloading software and it works very well.  I am hoping that Media Center soon will support the Dell.

Norm

Last time I looked, the 20gb dell was as large as they offered and cost more than 1/2 of a 40gb iPod.  Has the price dropped recently, it seems they were actually more than an iPod.  Also, does Dell affer a larger one yet?

Can you give some examples of the more use friendly features?

I'm shopping for a player right now, and I haven't actually used any of them before.  I'm mainly internet shopping to limit the choices, then I'll try to do some hands on shopping before I buy.  I always like to know what other owners like/dislike about their machines.

I'm trying to find a player to take on a trip around the world, so capacity and battery life/replaceability are quite important, as is weight.

Thanks

OK Dell people.

I need to buy one of these so we can pursue support of it here. Do any stores carry them where I can buy one locally, or where can I get one of these for the lowest cost?

Can only buy at Dell.com.  Currently they are selling for $224 for just the player.  Of course, you can add insurance coverage, better headphones, sleeves for the player (sport, strap on, clips...) fm transmitters for your car (I did buy one of these, my wife and I are going to Arizona next month and driving from Iowa)...

The direct link is: http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/category.aspx/dj?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

I complete plugin would be great!

Thanks, FZ

 >:( Sorry, forgot to add the $224 is for the 15GB.  The 20GB is on sale for $269.
