Any suggestions on getting ASIO to work in Media Center 10b with a Prodigy 7.1 under Win2K? When I select ASIO and either ASIO 2.0 Prodigy 7.1 or ASIO4ALL, I get an error that says to check bit depth, playback source, sample rate, etc. I have tried every conceivable combination to no avail. Under Winamp the ASIO plug-in works fine.... Aslo, I use Theatertek and MC gives errors when I try to use the Sonic filters for DVD playback....All very frustration.

Everything works fine on my XP machine with a Hercules Fortissimo and PowerDVD....?

That error means that MC is failing to open / start ASIO.

Have you tried changing the output sample rate in DSP Studio to 48,000 Hz?

I have tried every sample rate, bit depth, and output mode combination imaginable all to no avail. Do you think it has anything to do with Win2K?? When the DVD gives an error, it states that there was a problem starting 1-3 audio streams. All of my other software works fine on this machine:

Foobar2000
Winamp 5
Theatertek (DVD)
Various Games
Windows Media Player
Media Center - Directsound and Waveout only, No DVD or ASIO

I'm totally stumped....

Hopefully a resolution will be worked out as I am in the planning stages for setting up my HTPC as a music server. I just purchased a 120 GB drive for my music and now was looking into a new sound card, specifically the Prodigy 7.1.

Here's a test ASIO plugin:

Overwrite the file in the MC\Plugins directory with this one.

Then turn on ASIO diagnostics in Options > Playback > Advanced. Let me know what the diagnostics say and if it works or not.

Hi Matt,
I had posted over at AVSFORUM about being unable to get asio output on an AudioTrak Prodigy 7.1 (asio 2.0). Asio does however work with winamp but I want to use JRMC10. I tried your test plugin but it still failed with error

"There was an error starting playback. Make sure your system has a valid sound playback device and it is properly configured in playback options. (Double check the output mode, output device & output bitdepth)"

I had diagnostics checked, but this is the only window that opened. I am using your latest version on fully updated xp.

That's a big clue. Something dies before the final ASIO startup call. (clearing the buffers maybe)

I'll upload a new test build first thing tomorrow that'll get us closer to the problem.

Matt,

Same result as b_sing. The diagnostic box did not appear as it did previously with the old version of the out_MJ.dll. It appeared once when I tried it with the AISOx and reported something like "should be (0) result (0)" The diagnostic always appears (with the old .dll version) to confirm the ASIO 2.0 driver is being called and started correctly but then returns the error(s) boxes b-sing stated.

Hi Matt,
It's me again. I tried your latest dll with diagnostics and it returned
1. allocated working buffer (983ms)
2. working buffer created (346800 bytes)
3. allocated tempoary buffers
4. starting ASIO buffer empty
5. error during ASIO buffer empty
6. ASIO Playback starting dialog box (lists device, buffer type, ouput format etc)
And then the famous Windows dialog "Media Center encountered a problem and needs to close"

It does look like you're getting closer. Hope this info helps. If you need any more info, let me know.

out_MJ(1).dll (6/02/04)

Just discovered that I can play iTunes M4P files with ASIO enabled without error (well, the wife unit did) but I expect you are not passing files to the ASIO driver. All other formats give the error we stated yesterday. WAV, MP3, WMA, etc.

out_MJ(2).dll (06/03/04)

Same error and behavior as b-sing noted above except:

1. Allocated working buffer (500ms)
2. Working buffer created (176400 bytes)
3. Allocated tempoary buffers
4. Starting ASIO buffer empty
5. Error during ASIO buffer empty
6. I DO NOT get the ASIO Playback starting dialog box that b_sing gets, it goes straight "Media Center encountered a problem and needs to close" dialog box.

Thanks guys. Now we know where the problem is.

Some drivers must not like their buffers touched until playback starts.

We'll dig some more tomorrow and put up another test build.

Once I hit "ok", I get the "Media Center encountered a problem and needs to close" dialog box. Only the one info box opened.

We'll look some more Monday. It's looking like the buffer or buffer size is somehow different with this driver than with other drivers.

We may need to order one of the cards.

My ASIO works fine threough my Audigy 2 platinum, but i do remember having problemsat first with the setup. oi hadf to download an updte from the Steinberg website and change a few settingsoutside of MC, then kept MC enhancements to a minimum. i am not too good at this but if you tell me what iu need to send., i'll gladly send my settings etc (or if yout tell me what to send i can copy it ). For once my ignorance made something work instead of breaking it.

Actually, the end result is pretty awesome I am also running the sound through the Creativve DTS 3500 5.1 speaker system. I have heard that ASIO has a problem with certain 7.1 settings . ? ? ?

We're trying to get the ASIO feature of MC working with the Prodigy 7.1 audio card from Audiotrak using their ASIO 2.0 driver. Seems there are some differences between their driver and those form Creative, M-Audio, etc. that is creating a problem.

Thanks for the kind offer. I assume you are using "asio4all"? I beleive that is a ASIO to KS wrapper (still bit perfect). I too got that to work w/ my onboard sound but I got some intermittent popping. I have since upgraded to the Prodigy. AudioTrak's ASIO 2.0 is a true ASIO implementation (don't quote me on this as I am no expert)

I do agree with Datalux, the Prodigy is a great card. The control panel seems very intuitive. Once this issue is resolved (with Matt's help), I will be a happy camper.

This thread reminded me to try the ASIO out again. I had been experiencing pops & crackles with my Revo 7.1. Following all sugestions above, I still have them, and Wave out sounds much better.

I am having problems with the latest release and it working with my CardDeluxe running the lastest drivers. What steps should i try to trouble shoot this problem? I didn't want to run those test builds unless i know i am supposed to. I plan on purchasing this product after teh 30days is up if i can get the ASIO plugin to work considering this is the best interface i have seen yet. Please help me Matt, Thanks.

It seems they're having issues with other manufacturers' products as well. Maybe they could get useful info from the foobar and winamp ASIO output plugins since their source code is provided...

We have a Prodigy card now. The driver for it returns "ok" when we allocate buffers. The hitch is that it doesn't actually create the buffers -- causing crashes later on.

Other cards don't do this, so we think it's a problem in their driver. We're trying to reach AudioTrak to see if they can help find a solution.

ASIO will work with Prodigy (and possibly other AudioTrak cards) in the next builds of MC 10 and MC 11.

Their driver made the assumption that it'd be asked a question about its output channels before creating buffers. We didn't ask that question because there was no need. This caused their driver to malfunction.

I belive that this is the problem for my Esi Waveterminal 192x asio driver too. I have got the same error before. Unfortunely the test period has run out so i hope if i buy it it will work.... $:-\$
