Screen flicker since installing MJ8
« on: November 06, 2002, 10:29:33 am »

:( Since installing MJ8 my screen flickers. I restored my computer to an earlier config' using system restore (windows Me) and the fault cleared. Upon reinstalling MJ8 the screen flicker has returned.
MJ seems to be a good jukebox, but this is clearly a problem I dont need.
Help!

Make sure that your running your OS with latest:

Service packs, video drivers, ASPI, DirectX, and most certainly MJ 388.

Post your sys info from Help>System Info

Try:
Updating your video driver.
Updating Windows through IE/Windows update
Turning off skins in MJ

The screen flicker is there all the time wether or not you are actually using MJ8, I have also noticed the screen colour is not as good.
Where do you get the MJ 388?

Does the screen flicker occur on a regular interval - say every 60 seconds?  If so, it is caused by the MJ Scheduler, which is re-attaching file associations - you can increase this time delay to something else, or turn it off altogether.

I meant build 388, which you have.

I have this memorized now (I think).....
Backup License...Uninstall MJ...Update ASPI (doesn't look current (v4.72))...Crank machine up to see if flicker went away...Reinstall MJ...Restore License.

The screen flicker is very similar to having a mains operated device close to the monitor, or an old computer that has a very low screen frequency. The best way to see the flicker is to look not directly at the screen but to one side so your peripheral vision is still on the screen. My computer is about 1year old and the screen is normally solid as a rock. After having thought about it the flicker started as soon as I maximised the jukebox, the flicker then remained at all times wether or not I was in MJ.
I have installed MJon my laptop with no ill effects.

This sounds like the refresh frequency of your monitor has been lowered. Go to
Control Panel->Display->Settings->Advanced->Monitor
Increase the frequency until you're happy with it. I generally use 85Hz.
It's odd that MJ should have reset this. If you right click on the Playing Now panel (where this visualisation is) and do
Display Mode->Full Screen->Desktop resolution
it won't do it again.

>Since installing MJ8 my screen flickers

Oh, come on now.  I just can't buy that installing MJ causes a hardware or driver problem like a flickering screen, even when MJ isn't running.

Well, maybe...

Ever since I installed MJ, it hurts when I pee.  JimH, my urologist would like to have a word with you.

Thanks for the feedback.
Reply No:5 from xen uno seems to have sorted it.
Very pleased with MJ8, seems to work very well with some very nice facilities on it, not that I have used them all yet!
Thanks again. :)
