YADB error
« on: July 23, 2004, 10:10:28 pm »

When I try to look up a CD in YADB the window that appears contains text that consists of maily ? marks and lines, including the Buttons.  What is going on?

Any CD?  Or just one particular CD?

What version of MJ are you using?  Please copy your system info from MJ Help and paste it here.

Sounds like it is a different character set. You could submit it with the english character set, then later people won't have the same problem.

Perhaps my problem is not quite the same.  First, note that I'm not at that computer and so this is from memory:

When I tell MJ to use YADB on the CD, it first comes up with a dialog box that lists letters A and C with icons that appear to represent drives.  However the text is unreadable, perhaps from another character set (full of boxes and other strange characters).

When I close that box, I get another dialog box, also similarly unreadable with several (6-10?) fields in two columns.

Note that the unreadable data is in the captions, not the CD info.

BTW: I'm using Window 98 SE and the latest MJ (8.0.4?) updated two days ago.

I've only tried one so far.  It was a RCA Red Seal recoding of Brahms Violin Concerto and Double Concerto.  I haven't had time to see if other CDs behave similarly.

The last time I used MJ (months ago) it included both CDDB support and YADB support which appeared to work (for the few CDs I tried).

Is there a way to send you the .bmps of the dialog boxes?  Would that help?

CDDB will not work.  MJ uses YADB.  Check your settings.

Try other CD's.  It's possible that a single CD may have a garbage entry in the YADB database.

ME : Can you put the CDDB support back in please ? It's just, well, so much better ;-) Really cool would be if the info from CDDB would be auto-submitted to the YADB. But I'd be happy to submit the same info manually as long as my CD's are recognized and I don't have to tag every track by hand.
I really love MJ 8.0.4, but this issue tempts me to downgrade..

Kindly,

No.  That won't happen.  We stopped using CDDB about three years ago.
