Archos AV420
« on: January 07, 2005, 08:57:06 am »

Hi... I'm new here and trying to setup Media Center 10 to work with my new Archos AV420.

Anybody else out there using the AV420?

If so... let me know!

robatniles,

We do not have one here, but if you can use MC 11, you will be better off with this device.

Why do you say that I would be better off with MC11? I just plunked down $$ for MC10 hours ago and now MC11 is better (+$)?

MC10 seems to work fine with AV420 as it sees it asa an external drive.

robatniles,

If MC10 is working well for you, you are set. MC 11 is designed to be flexibly customizable for different devices. This flexiblity allows for automated m3u playlist support but that may or may not be relevant for your device.

I am trying to determine if this product will work with my new Archos AV480. Does it?

Probably, we do not have one.

If it appears to your PC as a drive in Windows Explorer, the answer is almost certainly yes.

It does show as a drive in Window Explorer.  I am still on my 30 day free trial MC10. Can I upgrade my trial to MC11 to see if it works?

If you try 11, use tonight's build as changes were made regarding devices such as yours and how they are accessed.

Can you provide me a link to the latest build of MC11? I currently have 11.0.213 beta. Is that the latest?

It's near the top of the MC board here.

I am sorry. I may not have been clear. Is 11.0.213  the most current beta version available?

No, but if you'll take a look at the MC board, you can see that.

I don't recommend the latest build.  218 is the latest stable build.

Thanks. I am little new this forum and was not completely sure where to find the MC Board. Is this the link?

The reason I ask is on March 14th SteveG  recommended using "Tonights build" to address some functions with my Archos av480. I was not sure the version I have has the build he was referencing.

JetBlack,

Sorry for the confusion with the 'Tonight's build' stuff. Sometimes the builds aren't sequential so when I post about the next build I don't specify what it is. 218 would include what you are after. I would recommend continuing your testing with tonight's (220?) build.

I am still having some issues when down loading music to the Archos av480. When I drag drop the selected music files to the "Music" folder on the player, it does not put the music in that folder. It ends up going to the main directory. Once loaded on the player I need to manually move the files to the "Music" folder. Am I doing something wrong?

Did you configure the Archos under 'Tools->Options->Handheld Options->Configure remote and fixed drives?  IF so, when you configure it, browse to the 'Music' directory before you assign the name.

Ok I set this up. One more question. does this function only work when when you sync? Will it work if I just want to drag and drop selected music to the Archos Music directory? I don't want to send my entire music library to the Archos, only 3,4 and 5 rated songs.

No, it will work for drag and drop too.

I just tried it. I must be doing something wrong. It is still putting the music in the main directory rather than than the music forlder I directed it to do.

JetBlack,

When you configure the drive, you must select the path that is to the 'Music' directory on your device. When you browse for the 'Path to detect'  browse to the Music folder.  Are you perhaps entering 'Music' as the playlist directory or filepath?

You could attach it to an email and send it to steve @ jriver.com.
