Media Center 11.0.255 Release Candidate
« on: May 03, 2005, 03:16:00 pm »

We're just about ready to release Media Center 11.0.  We appreciate your bug reports.  PRICES are here: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=23311  Please post bugs you're sure about here.  Post anything else in a new thread with a subject like "MC11 problem with ..." or "MC11 question about ....".    Feature requests should be postponed until we've finished 11.0.

Media Center 11 is available here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter110255.exe

11.0.255 (5/3/05)

1. Fixed: Install Wizard wouldn't properly shut down Media Server before running installation.
2. Changed: Install Wizard won't continue setup if Media Center is currently running.
3. Fixed: File associations could fail to work in some cases. (double-click in Explorer, etc.)
4. NEW: Added debug logging to Library Server.
5. NEW: More core MMX drawing engine improvements.
6. Changed: Shuffle and continuous modes are now independent for each playback zone.

11.0.254 (5/2/05)

1. Fixed: Deleting files from library browser could cause a crash in some cases.
2. Fixed: When editing the name or filename fields, the edit control text would not be automatically selected.
3. NEW: Improved performance of core MMX drawing engine for all images / skin items.
4. Changed: Library browser no longer uses slower bicubic resizing for thumbnails to improve performance.
5. Fixed: Startup volume setting would not work properly when using "internal volume" setting or when starting with not the first zone.
6. Changed: Imports happen in the order files are found instead of in random order. (makes 'Recently Imported' more useful, and could help performance with some drives)
7. Fixed: Options > Tree & View > Thumbnails > Erase All... was not working properly in some cases.

11.0.252 (4/29/05)

1. Changed: In TV Options, "Automatically Import to Media Center" checkbox is renamed "Automatically Import Recorded Video".
2. Changed: Some tooltip texts and dialog window names in TV Options are changed to avoid name conflicts and to increase consistency.
3. Fixed: Download Manager Options window resized when switching from one page to another, causing visual distortion.
4. Fixed: Enhanced audio CD's were not showing any tracks for ripping/playing.
5. Fixed: Options window would re-center everytime one switched to another page.
6. Fixed: Download Manager Options window used wrong icon.
7. Fixed: Pressing stop while Media Center was paused could cause a dead-lock on W2K.
8. Changed: Added a small margin to the right of list text so the text won't run right up to a gridline.

MC 11 Improvements

CUE file playback support with sample-accurate MP3 seeking
Many Theater View enhancements
Split views so you can look at two (or more) views at the same time (ex. look at Media Library and Playing Now together)

When transcoding options are enabled in client, an error appears when attempting to play songs:

"Media Center encountered errors while trying to play the last several files. Please make sure that the path in your media library points to the right location."

The only one that does appear to work is WMA. Did Microsoft get hold of your code recently? ;)

I rolled the server machine back to build 246 and I was able to play formats other than WMA fine.

MC is not returning any information for files on my Nomad Jukebox 3.  I first noticed this with the last build, and it's still happening...  It gives me a file count and amount of space remaining and nothing else.

It won't transfer either - it gives me an error dialogue with 'h.' in the title bar, no details, and when I click OK, the transfer progress remains; I click cancel on that, and it asks if I'm sure, so I say yes and the progress diappears; however, when I go to close MC it tells me I'm still transferring to a portable, am I sure I want to close?  I click yes and it tells me transferring will be cancelled and then MC will close, but it doesn't close - I have to end the process in TaskManager...

It would seem the that the option to save CD Images Inside (If Possible) has disappeared from the image menu where it used to be and I can't find it anywhere else.

In the Customize This View dialog, I spend some time adding and re-ordering the columns with the move up and move down buttons. Then I delete the columns I don't want. As soon as I delete a column, all the re-ordering I did, especially of the columns that I added, is reset to some default with the columns I added at the end.

When I setup 2 iPod slast night - using the define remote/drive option.  They both are appearing in the dropdown list box in handheld options page.

When I go to switch to the other - i get a dialog stating save changes - even though i didnt change anything.

Switching between the two will also cause the drop down options for file conversion to get repopulated with duplicate options, switching multiple times causing the file conversion down down list to always get duplicates added each time.

Audible site:
Clicking "download" on an audio book after its been paid for etc. doesnt do anything. briefly there is an "opening page" message on the bottom bar of MC but nothing happens.

Yesterday I was manually "Add image file"ing and quite regularly the image would appear in the image action window but MC wouldnt draw a thumbnail for the album. I had to "remove image file" without deleting it from the hard drive, and then go through the process again. Second time it always worked allright.

Some avi (DIVx) files keep getting imported as audio files and need to be manually changed to "media type video"

Switching between views using the ctrl shortcuts only ...
1 -> 2 (mini) OK
2 -> 4 (full) OK
4 -> 2 (back to mini) does not work. The key seems to have no effect.
4 -> 1 works though.

1 -> 4 OK
4 ->2 OK
2 -> 4 OK
2 -> 1 No effect

It seems that the mini view does not use the ctrl 1-4 shortcuts. From the mini view, you can only return to the previous view?

I am not even sure about this,  it seems somehow inconsistent?

I also seem to have an 'Media Center Display' button on the task bar that has no effect, left over whilst trying the windowed mode.

The missing thumbnails in a client library problem is still there in 255 - again it seems further improved over 254 (thanks!)

a bit more information / symptoms...

the thumbnail for a given album is present in some view schemes but not in others
the missing thumbnail persists after restarting both the server and client library
if the thumbnails directory is deleted and the client restarted - different thumbnails are missing

edit: some more background - database is 29700 files, with images stored in a single directory on the same PC as the server library
If I create a dummy library with up to 10,000 files, the server seems to deliver all of the images OK
larger than 10,000 and it starts to miss images
dont know if this is significant - could be just probability!

Slider bars, such as the Buffering slider on the Direct Sound Settings dialog, have lost their handles when using the "Z" skin. There is now nothing to grab and no indication of the current position.

The ability to set the gap between tracks with the Standard transition has disappeared from the Playback Options dialog. Dudes, this is critical functionality for me which I greatly appreciated in version 10... I professionally DJ with your software, and I need to both trim leading and trailing silence (which you have thankfully left in the product), and then add my specific gap back in. Depending on the night, the gap varies between .2 and .6 seconds. YES, it makes a difference. Please put the gap setting back, and let me choose the setting by increments of .1 seconds. Your current drop down menu for setting transitions would be sufficient, but not as ideal as an entry box. The old slider in v10 would be welcome too. Your current UI design choices for the settings (i.e. everything is a tree of widgets) has painted you into a corner and the user loses because of it.

Cheers,
Jeff

Windows XP is showing the default unregistered icon for all Media Center File Types.  I have tried changing it from Tools>Folder Options>File Types, rebuilt the icon cache, rebooted, reinstalled MC11, still can't get the MC11 file type icon to show.  All the settings point to HD:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 11\Data\Default Art\fileimage.ico but it's just not showing.

  • List views are kinda slow when scrolling horizontally.
  • Changing skin reset views and makes a strange shadow on the topbar.
  • right clicking on the display window(for cover art, visualization...etc) slows MC and makes it hangs for a few seconds to open right click menu.
  • changing some tag info in the playing now window shows in the status bar that MC is saving the last tag change (i think for the track currently playing) until MC goes to another track. ....> would that be a factor in slowing MC behavior ?

epf,

Please go to Plugin Manager and check what version of the plugin you have installed. If it is not 11.0.22, this is your problem. Do 'Check for Updates' and the problem should go away.

Still not working fully...

13. Fixed: The burning option to "Prefix List Order" would not work properly unless a Custom naming scheme was being used.

If this option is pre-selected, it works. If unselected than re-selected, it inserts repeated 1's, no list order at all.

Bug or by design:

This is the situation:
1 View holding Playing Now.
It is a long list of song and the focus is (by clicking on it) is on a song which is not shown on the screen.
If you scroll down you will find it.
I have a playlist with 1 song.

If I drag this playlist into Playing Now and drop it, MC11 immediately skips to the file were my focus is on. Therefore I can not conclude if my drop was made or not. If I check it turns out that the drop was made.

This also happens if I use 2 views and I drag a song from view 1 into the view with playing now (remember: song which has focus is not visible on the screen).

Bug or by design??

Whenever you show all files on a portable, if you delete all of the files in a particular folder, the folder still remains. Is this by design?

Also, there seems to be a glitch when the action window for portables pops up. The number of files and space left doesnt seem to show up every time.

And, was there ever an answer on whether or not the Disc# not being linked to the Album like Track# is?

Importing files via the command shell is broken in this build.

I can confirm. I tried with two different PCs (XP and W2k). Right-click import using Windows Explorer is broken again.

I just noticed that that at least these selection windows are not working properly on my w2k PC.

Vorbis & WMA encoding options:

Library server conversion options:

Only one option is visible at a time and scrolling them is difficult because the buttons are so small.

I reported this earlier in 11.0.228 thread and the APE options were corrected. I thought that the problem was corrected everywhere in MC. APE has been OK since then.

This problem doesn't exist on my XP PCs.

I can confirm. Only WMA works.

One more for the road:

If a playlist consists of CUE tracks the position slider does not advance after the first track change. It stays at zero. This does not affect playback. If the slider is moved manually it starts working again and shows the correct position until the next track change.

I think the Ogg Vorbis encoding options window title is wrong. I guess it should be similar with the others.

Ogg Vorbis:

Windows Media:

Sorry, it seems that once I get started, I can't stop. I'll try to keep quiet after this...  :)
