Buffer overrun error
« on: September 07, 2005, 12:00:49 pm »

I experience C++ buffer overuns every time I use this app.  It has been suggested that I post some system information via MC Help... standby one....

Media Center Registered 11.0.309 -- C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 11\

Microsoft Windows XP 5.1 Service Pack 1 (Build 2600)
AMD Unknown 2007 MHz MMX / Memory: Total - 1048 MB, Free - 524 MB

Digital playback: Yes /  Use YADB: Yes /  Get cover art: Yes /  Calc replay gain: Yes /  Copy volume: 32767
Eject after ripping: Yes /  Play sound after ripping: No

Burning /  Drive G: LITE-ON  LTR-12101B         Addr: 0:2:0  Speed:4  MaxSpeed:12  BurnProof:Yes
Test mode: No /  Eject after writing: Yes /  Direct decoding: No /  Write CD-Text: Yes
Use playback settings: Yes /  Normalization: None

OK I suppose that may help someone else to understand something that will prevent the C++ Buffer Overuns that shut down the media player, but it's not leading me to any ideas.

Has anyone else had this problem?  Does anyone else know how to fix this issue?

Thanks in advance.

Thank you.  We'll try to help solve the problem.

Please try updating to build 314 available in a thread near the top of this board.

A search for "buffer" found this thread:

Is it similar?

What are you playing?  MP3 files?

Any third party plug-ins?

Programs like spam filters, ant-virus, anti-popup, etc. can sometimes cause strange problems.

Thank You.

The error message I get is exactly this:

"Messsage:
Buffer overrun detected!

Program: ...\Files\J River\Media Center 11\Media Center.exe

A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated."

I pasted that message from another user from the "buffer overrun" thread you sent me, but again it is EXACTLY what my error message/pre MC shutdown on ack looks like.

Thanks again.

Anything else unusual?

Third party plug-ins?  Visual effects?

Using Library Server?

USB drive?  Network drive?

Spam filters, ant-virus, anti-popup, etc?

Names of files have unusual characters?

Always the same file?

Always the same time length?

Do you also have MC10?  If so, did you uninstall it?

Brooks--
I know this stuff is frustrating, because I've been through it myself.  MC talks to a variety of different windows services as it goes along.  You need to tell JimH exactly what MC was doing at the moment it bombed out.
If you have ZoneAlarm Pro you've probably found your culprit.  Other anti-spyware apps can slow things down as well.
