new installed plugins not appearing
« on: March 19, 2006, 09:04:50 pm »

okay, this is weird. i had to reinstall MC when i upgraded to XP, and now, when i download a new plugin, it doesn't show up. MC thinks it's installing, it downloads a file, and tells me the install is complete, but the new plugin doesn't show up, and even if i try to manually select the dll in the plugin manager, no luck. any thoughts? thanks...

hmmm... you don't say what plugins...

Did you look down the bottom of the tree in the left-hand pane, under 'services and plugins'?
you might find it/them in there.

Is the plugin showing up in plugin manager at all?
I think theres a slight bug there at the moment,
where you may have to click hide then show, even
tho it's not showing, or something like that.

the two i installed last night were audioscrobbler and album view... they aren't visible there, and i know that's where audioscrobbler usually hangs out.

Please read about Audioscrobbler problems here:

It causes MC problems.

I'd still expect the plugins to show up even if they weren't
working.  Maybe a dumb question but are you definitley
looking in the interface area of the plugin manager?

Which version of MC are you using?
Have you definitley downloaded a plugin compatible
with that version of MC?

Do you see some of the default plugins under interfaces
such as Library Server?

i'm using 11.1.140 - it says no updates available, so i'll take that to mean i have the newest one. :)

all the plugins i've dl'ed to try and use are compatible - i was running 11.1.xxx under win2K last week, and since i've upgraded to XP, no luck...

yep, those are there and working fine. oddly enough, it seems that ever since i installed the flac_in and _out plugins, no more will install...

thanks for your help!

I'm a tad confused.
This is for JRiver eyes/clever people that understand whats happening.
I'm getting the same results no matter what build I use.
I've just rolled right back to 11.0.307.
The steps I've been trying are as follows:
Go to plugin manager.
Go to Interfaces.
Select Add Plugin.
Select int_SleepTimer.dll
press OK.
Nothing happens.

If I do
regsvr int_SleepTimer.dll
then the plugin instantly shows up.
Is the add plugin button eternally broken?

Laerm it's kinda strange that AlbumView doesn't show
up as it has it's own setup program, which registers
the plugin. I think the problem you have differs
to what I'm talking about above.

Do you know how to use the windows registry editor?
If so you could check to see if AlbumView shows up here:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\JRiver\Media Jukebox\Plugins\Interface
No need to edit anything just check that AlbumView shows up there.

If it doesn't do you have any software which may be blocking registry editing?

it shows up there, however, why would all of my other plugins appear in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\JRiver\Media Center 11\Plugins and these plugins install to Media Jukebox? does that matter? it seems to me like it would...

i don't have any fancy software on here that messes with the registry, other than registry crawler, which just searches the registry easier. plus i only installed that two days ago and i've been having this problem since last week...

Odd though it seems that is normal.  My own
plugins register there and it should work fine.
I'm afraid I'm out of ideas.  I would expect AlbumView to be showing
up in plugin manager if it's registered in the registry, even if the installation
itself was corrupt.

Make sure you try Jims advice of insuring the AudioScrobbler
plugin is completely removed.

AV registers in several places to cater for the several places that different versions of MediaCenter/MediaJukebox can reside.

If the AV info is in the registry and MC isn't even reading it then MC has an issue reading it.

I can't reproduce this.

Note that interface plugins must be installed using their install package. (.mjp file for MC plugins)

The install button in Plugin Manager is for Winamp2, etc. plugins that don't have a self-registering mechanism.

Right-io.  That makes more sense.  I thought
I'd remembered adding interface plugins that way,
must have been something else.
Cheers.

oooookay!

well, a total wipe of MC from my system, including purging the registry and the user settings/application data/j river directory, has solved my issue. i can now install plugins to my little heart's content. big sigh. :) thanks!

I have a 'not appearing' problem also; old MC user, new xp install, new MC install--.172.

I need to manage the comment fields on hundreds of audio files and am trying to install "Detailed" plug-in.  I can't tell where it goes but doesn't show up anywhere in Plugin Manager...

"Detailed" looks to be a Track Info. In order to see it, you'll need to have files actually playing, go to Playing Now and change your visualization to Track Info, then choose "Detailed" from the list of available templates.

Sorry, this doesn't match with my MC; under Playing Now there are 2 subheadings--Find CD and Artist Info.

"Detailed" doesn't show up under 'Services & Plug-Ins"

I found a submenu under Set Display/Track Info whose box has several choices in unreadable square boxes instead of text...

On the Playing Now window, where it displays the list of playing files on the bottom and a visualization on the top half... if you move your mouse over the viz window, a control bar will popup from the bottom. On the left hand side of this control bar are two arrows and then a text description of the currently selected visualization. That text is actually a dropdown menu. From there, you can pick Track Info -> Detailed.

ok; I get an inscrutable text box with unreadable font, and sub-boxes also with unreadable font (squares)...

Both the Track Info and the Visualizations choices lead to unreadable sub-menus...

Greetings,
I've been using Media Center and before that media jukebox for years and I have never ever had the kind of problem being described------ Until now, so I am going to completely uninstall my media Center and see if that solves my problem.
