USBUIRT dll won't register
« on: April 21, 2006, 11:12:32 am »

Just updated from MC10 which had all my remote control codes programmed and the USBUIRT plugin all working, after update I tried to download and reconfigure the USBUIRT but it wont register the rc_uuirt.dll plugin, keep getting an error saying it couldn’t register the file with a return code of 0X80070005.  MC11 says it cant find the remote plugin and the IRMAN plugin that comes preinstalled wont activate either, seems all IR remote controls are dead.

Any ideas?

Thanks for any help.

Do you have an IR receiver connected?

Try uninstalling MC10 and rebooting.

Yes its connected and working.  Also when I installed MC11 it automatically uninstalled MC10 but I noticed it left a subdirectory of Data from MC10 which I thought it had to do to keep some of my settings.  However there are no other rc_uuirt.dll on the machine, and it wont manually register either, any other plugin will manually register but not the one on the J Rivers download page.

I just tested the plugin from the download page and it registered and worked fine with the USB-UIRT connected to my computer. I'm running the latest version of MC.
Do you have administrator privilege on your computer?
Maybe try restarting your computer and downloading the plugin again.

I’m not sure about the administrator privileges, nor am I sure how to tell exactly, I do know that nothing on my machine has changed since I installed the plugin in MC10 two days before I upgraded to MC11, and I can manually register .dll’s all day long in many different paths but not in the J Rivers Plugins folder.  The error code I posted comes up as an administrator rights issue but the solution is specifically geared toward cretin program files that have nothing to do with MC11.

Right now my best bet is some corruption in MC11 or a reaction to other connected programs or plugins but I cant isolate it yet and I’m not sure what to do other then completely remove and re-install MC11 which I did last night with no change.  As of now no RC device will register inside the J Rivers Plugin folder no matter what I try.

Possibly the mediacenter.ocx file that is inserted in that directory as it came from Cinemar?

Does it matter that this is an unregistered trial version of MC11?

Try to take musiclobby out of the equation.  Uninstall it, reboot, and reinstall MC.

Give the file that won't register to the tool at dependencywalker.com

There may be a missing DLL.

Also, what OS are you running?

XP Pro SP2, not sure what you mean by a missing .dll, I thought there was only one (rc_uuirt.dll).

Our plugin depends on the USB-UIRT driver DLL being present. I assume you installed the driver and everything worked ok with the USB-UIRT device at that point?
If it's installed correctly, there should be a uuirtdrv.dll file in the windows/system32 directory.
If you want to try re-installing the drive for the USB-UIRT, you can download it here:
http://www.usbuirt.com/support.htm
click on the "v1.4" link.

That said, it sounds like you don't have permission under your login to modify the "local machine" part of the registry and that's why the registration is failing. Many COM controls only modify the "current user" area of the registry so they would register ok, but the remote control plugins modify "local machine".

How do I get administrator permission, I only have one login choice.

Just checked, under Control Panel "User Accounts" my login has admin rights, so it must be something else.

No ideas, it does seem to be about admin rights but I dont know what else to try.  Strange that MC10 worked perfectly and had access to my registery, but MC 11.1 dont.

Still cannot get the remote plugin to register, I've paid for the new update and activated the registration to be sure that was not a problem, but still no luck.

This is what I'm seeing when I try to install the plugin for the remote.

Whoops, looks like I cant post a screen shot.

Any way I can send this via e-mail or maybe my log file would help.

Thanks.

I see you've posted at Cinemaronline.  If you're running their software as well, that could be related to the problem you're seeing.  There is a post near the bottom of this thread that may be relevant:

That is a problem with ML Server beta which I am not running, there is a new Media Center plugin that I have installed, I'll try to un-register it and rename or delete it and see what happens.  I have tried to install the USBUIRT plugin with no Cinemar products running several times but this did not make a difference.  Also my USBUIRT is operating perfectly well from Main Lobby and I have the latest driver.  One other note of interest is that the IRMAN will not initialize either, I get the same error if I select it and click activate, seems no Inferred device will install or work properly, and I have checked, I most definitely do have administrator rights on from my login even though the error code points to an admin rights problem.  Anything else I should try, if need be I will completely uninstall MLServer even though it is the same program that was on my machine with a working remote control in MC10.

The only thing that has changed before the remote plugin stopped working is the upgrade to Media Center from 10 to 11.1 and the new Media Center Plugin for MLServer, and I will isolate that tonight.

Uninstall any third party plug-ins, including Cinemar's and reboot, then reinstall.

OK, I un-registered and uninstalled all third Party Plugins, removed MLServer and restarted, still don’t work.

Here is what I'm getting when I download the plugin from the Tools, Options, Remote tab:

Failed to register object:
C:\J River\Media Center 11\Plugins\rc_uuirt.dll

If I use the Plugin manager it says plugin not found, obviously this is because it is not registered, but the plugin is in the plugin folder of J River and is the latest.

Anything else I could try?

I tried installing other plugins from the plugin manager and they all worked fine, but no remote plugin will register, not even IRMAN.

Re: USBUIRT dll won't register
« Reply #17 on: May 03, 2006, 08:33:01 pm »

I feel confident that it is a registration issue, the USBUIRT plugin that im using has been proven good, the original configuration and hardware/Software combination was the same, the only difference was the upgrade  (10 to 11.1) and install that required the re-installation of the USBUIRT Plugin because the new update wiped out the old one that worked in 10.  Then, (as I now remember) I hadn’t even installed the new Media Center Plugin for Music Lobby when I found the USBUIRT remote plugin to not register.  I remember immediately reconfiguring and seting up Media Center 11 before I added any new software or devices.

Maybe the path change that happened in the upgrade from Media Center10 to Media Center 11 caused a footprint in the registry that is fowling up the new registry?  The old path was Media Center, the new path is Media Center 11.

Just guessing at this point, I did a search for uuirt in the registry but found no entries.

Is there any way to force a register entry, like in the old DOS days when you just wrote a string in the Config.sys file or Win.ini file?  Can you add a key to the windows registery that points to the path of the plugin, if so where?

Files are
“uuirtdrv.dll” in the Windows, System32 directory and the “rc_uuirt.dll” in the J Rivers\Media Center 11\Plugins directory.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Yes the device is connected and no other program is using it now, all of my Cinemar products have been disconnected from it and the plugins un-registered, the only plugin left is in the Windows32 directory.  I tested it last night using the IR Helper tool and it works flawlessly, I can send and receive codes fine.

Is there no way to manually enter the plugin registration key, if there was, I’m sure this would work.

Try a google search on using regsvr32.exe to register plug-ins manually.

I'm not sure if you caught this the first time, but it often explains registration failures:

Give the file that won't register to the tool at dependencywalker.com

Let us know what you find.  Thanks.

Try a google search on using regsvr32.exe to register plug-ins manually.

I know how to register a plugin manually, that didn’t work either, I was talking about manually entering a key value into the register via regedit, to do this I would need to know the exact string and location that it needs to be.

Thanks.

Also, download the latest plugin (v2.0.2). I updated it because I noticed it was creating an entry in an obsolete area of the registry (Media Jukebox). I doubt that will solve the problem for you but you may as well update.

OK, downloaded Dependency Walker and I think I have used it correctly but I have no way of knowing as I don’t really know what to expect or do.  I opened the rc_uuirt.dll found in the J Rivers Plugin directory and it gives me some errors, but I don’t know how to interpret them, can you help?

First off I cant post a screen shot so I don’t know what information to post back, it does say that MSJAVA.dll cannot be found on the top line but I done know what to make of it.

Try a google search on msjava.dll.  You might find something.  I know that java in Windows has changed, but I don't remember the details.

There have also been some Windows updates that caused problems.  You might try searching that.

Also, check to make sure Windows is up to date.  IE/Windows Update.

I'm sorry I can't offer anything better.

I went back to MC10 and that didn’t work either, it was working in 10 just before the update to MC11, but now I cant have a remote no matter what.

Oh well, I'll have to give up, I'm out of ideas.

Thanks for trying, I appreciate it.

I looked up the msjava error and you can ignore it. Were there any other errors listed?

To see if you're having a registry permissions problem, check if you can manually create an entry in the registry at this key location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JRiver\Media Center 11\Plugins

There is supposed to be an entry under Plugins called RemoteControl\USB-UUIRT.

If it doesn't let you create a key there, right click on the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE" registry key, select "Permissions..." from the menu and see what boxes are checked. Assuming you're logged in as administrator you should be able to check the "Allow" box for "Full Control" if it's not checked already. After attempting installation of the plugin again, you can set this back to the previous setting if you want.

What do ya know, the new version 1.1.183 fixed the USBUIRT Remote Plugin  problem.  However now it wont accept the Music Lobby Plugin, not sure if this is a Cinemar issue or not.

Any ideas?

Had MC10 installed and installed MC11 without uninstalling MC10 even though it says not to, however this combination along with the latest upgrade to MC11 made the remote plugin work.  So I decided that I didn’t need MC10 anymore and uninstalled it but it left a few files in the data directory anyway, so I deleted them and completely removed MC10 folder, now the remote plugin don’t work anymore.  I then reinstalled MC10 to try and get it working but I guess the magic combination is gone, cant get it to work no matter what.

Anyway, I know for sure its not about admin rights to the registry, must be some combo of files that MC10 has that work better then the newer MC11 files that is keeping the plugin from registering.  For now I'm just too tired to try anymore, it’s been weeks and am going to move on to other things, too bad, I almost had it.  I'll gather up some gumption and try again some other day as I really do miss having my Pronto Remote control the transport functions.

Thanks for all the help.

It sounds like the USBUIRT.DLL was registered by MC10 and that prevented registration by MC11.  Reinstalling MC11 now is worth a try.

MC11 will coexist with MC10 IF the MC10 is the latest build.

MC11 will coexist with MC10 IF the MC10 is the latest build.

That’s what I got right now, the latest build of MC10 and the latest of MC11 both installed but I only have one at a time running. I have unregistered the plugin for MC10 and registered it for MC11 only then I tried it the other way around, then both, no combination will get it to work now.  Two days ago i only had MC11 on my machine and the plugin was definetly not registered by MC10, I manually unregistered before I uninstalled MC10, then yesterday I did a clean install of MC11, then MC10.

Right now I battling with the cover art, since I did a complete uninstall and reinstall I have to rebuild my artwork thumbnails and this time around MC11 will only retrieve about 30% of my collection from the internet, the manual adding work around is extremely time consuming, so I have to get this done first, then I will troubleshoot the remote plugin again.  Something cant be right about this new build 11.1.183, the old one found much more, this one will not even find very common artwork like AC/DC back in black, that’s never happened with any other build I’ve tried.

Any tips to get my cover art back quicker, my backup library only attaches the cover art that was inserted by MC11 via the internet, it will not attach the 70% that I manually downloaded and put in a different directory.

You could locate your old cover art and set the directory in MC's tools/options/file locations.

Then select a few albums and right click, and choose image/quick find.

I think Jim was suggesting re-installing MC11 after MC10. Try installing MC11 again so it's the last installed version.

That did the trick, I reinstalled MC11 and all is good again, thanks.  I guess I have to have MC10 installed (complete) to get the remote working, but any fix is received with a happy heart.

Thanks for the idea..
