Media Center 11.1.185
« on: May 24, 2006, 03:09:22 pm »

This is the latest version of MC 11.1.  Your MC11.0 license will work with it.  Please post bugs here.  Please start a new thread for anything requiring discussion.  Non-bug posts will be deleted or moved.  MC11.1 is a free upgrade from MC11.0.

If you're new to MC11, please use the build from our download page here:
http://www.jrmediacenter.com/download.html

This latest build (usually safe) of MC11.1 is here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter111185.exe

11.1.185 (5/24/2006)

1. Changed: Updated the German translation. (thanks Nick Schlüter!)
2. Fixed: aac/m4a tags that were written to the end of media files could not be read.
3. Fixed: Audible files transferring to MTP devices failing. Required WMP hotfix added to install.
4. Fixed: Streaming m4a and ra/ram/rm audio tracks from Library Server could not be played.
5. Fixed: When not playing mp4 type in DirectShow, MC could not correctly categorize mp4 as video or audio (and classified all mp4s as video).
6. Fixed: MP3 files with slightly corrupted frame data could cause an MC crash.
7. NEW: Added an Italian translation. (thanks to Marco!)

11.1.184 (5/15/2006)

1. Changed: Proprietary MusicMatch field handling could cause MC-specific fields to fail to load with some tag configurations.
2. Fixed: When simultaneous rip/encode option was disabled, the last track ripped from a CD did not get cover art associated with it.
3. Fixed: Burning transcoded CD's (mp3 or wma) was not converting to the correct format in certain cases.
4. Fixed: If mp3 encoder failed to download, transcoded CD burn could be continued anyway and result in a coaster.
5. Changed: Theater View could be slower than expected on some systems due to font auto-sizing.
6. Changed: Track Info (and other visualizations) detect meta-data changes as track changes in http:// streams.
7. Changed: Slightly increased the minimum size of the on-screen display.
8. Fixed: Files not transferring to some Windows Mobile devices successfully (WMDM Bug: MSDN article #893027).

11.1.183 (5/5/2006)

1. Fixed: With certain font anti-aliasing schemes enabled, font auto-sizing would not work as expected.

11.1.182 (5/5/2006)

1. Changed: Updated the French translation. (thanks Jean-Marc)
2. Changed: Revised the shrink mode used by the panes during auto-sizing when there isn't enough space.
3. Changed: While in windowed mode, the close and restore buttons aren't shown on the top bar. (since the window itself has them)
4. Changed: Disc numbers of 0 and 1 don't sort as equals in the panes. (but they still do in lists)
5. Fixed: The right-most column wouldn't update the horizontal scrollbar after a resize in a file list.
6. Changed: More tuning to automatic font size selection system.
7. Changed: Updated Portuguese translation. (thanks ChicoSelfs)
8. Changed: Updated all translation files to contain latest source code phrases. (now at version 2.3)
9. Changed: Added "Conductor" as a default library field. (Media Center has always saved / loaded this from MP3 tags once created, but now it'll be automatically created)
10. NEW: After manually creating the fields "Instruments", "Featured Performers", "Classical Genre", "Track Artist", doing an "Update Library (from tags)" will load proprietary MusicMatch data for these fields. (read and write support)

11.1.181 (5/3/2006)

1. Changed: Creation of start menu shortcuts would not work as expected during a non-express upgrade install.
2. Fixed: The jaggy 16x16 Media Center icon could still show in some places.

New Features in MC 11.1
Podcasting support, with OneClick Podcast subscription
Audible fully supported
Much improved handheld support for iPod, PlayforSure devices, and many others
User-configurable locations for media types on handhelds
iPod Shuffle and Nano support
Photos and album art on iPods that support it

Much faster handling of thumbnail images (requires one-time rebuild of thumbnails)
New thumbnail slider bar for resizing

Hello!

Bugs:
1. No open AAC+ Radio Online Streaming.
Several examples: http://www.radioparadise.com/musiclinks/rp_64aac.m3u
http://www.streamingsoundtracks.com/aacPlus-hi.pls
http://stream.beatbox.fm:7200/listen.pls

2. Title song no refresh in Minimized Tray Icon. The problem steps out only listening Radio online streaming.
Please fix problems!!! ::)

185 required rebooting my computer. Since I usually have about 6 programs running while I'm doing development, is there something I can do prior to installation to avoid the reboot like unlocking some DLLs or something?

I know this could very well be a system issue or x64 related but I finally have to mention it and hopefully you guys can take a peek:

I print a lot with this machine overall, (not large or extensive print jobs), both Word docs, MC generated cd tracklists, and even though this machine can pirme95 and pass memtest I still get a blue screen TCIP error, but eclusively when using the MC label printer. I am printing only the back tracklist label and frequently get a blue screen (1 out of 40 prints?).

I understand that although this happens only with MC's app, it is most likely exploiting some kind of instability on my system; problem is my system is stable with some pretty serious stree testers. Anyway, just had to mention it since I have seen it since around the start of 11.1. I haven't heard anyone else ever mention this either but maybe it is x64 related (I am using a DFI 250gb).

thanks!

I don't know if this happened before nevertheless I noticed it now:
cover art is not saved into the file when the particular file is playing

Example:
I import a new album. I start playback.
Action Window -> File Properties -> Image
I drag & drop cover art (front.jpg) from Total Commander onto "Image" window in MC
Field "Image File" shows "Inside File" for all tracks EXCEPT the one that is playing; there it shows "front.jpg"
Switching to next track or stoping the playback has no effect at all - still not saved and must be re-drag & dropped again for that particular file

"Store images in tags also" is enabled
I tried MP3 and APE - it's the same behaviour

dcwebman,

The reboot was probably in relation to a Windows Media patch to allow transfers of very large files to devices. Once the patch is installed this shouldn't happen again. Also, if you exit any programs that are tying up Windows Media dll's it should be able to patch them without rebooting.

Peace

I noticed this too. Didn't make the connection to .184 until you just posted that.

I've had the same problem (having to reboot after installing .185).  I have nothing else running and am current on all Microsoft patches.  This is the first MC download I've done that has required a reboot.

Comments?

MC does not write a proper filename inside the cue sheet when a CD is ripped to single file & cue.

The details are here: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=33958.msg231814#msg231814

Win2K scrollbars MC 11.1.185
« Reply #11 on: May 26, 2006, 04:37:40 pm »

This problem was discussed quite a few versions back, and is unresolved in 185.  It affects Windows 2000 systems, not XP.

To reproduce, select a thumbnails view of, say, audio files.  Next., drag the thumbnails size slider to a different position.  The thumbnails will scale snappily, and rearrange themselves into more or fewer columns as needed. However, the scroll bar on the right will not change at all - it will continue to reflect the pane size as it was originally.  Now if you scroll down, you will either find you can't scroll to the bottom of the thumbnails, or there'll be a be old blank space below them (depending on whether they got bigger or smaller.)

Hit F5/Refresh and it'll right itself.

The exact same issues exists with the image thumbnails pane.

Any chance of nailing this one, ever though it's Win2k only?  My prior experiences of putting XP on my laptop (which is a) what it came with and b) was supposedly designed for) have always been bad.

Thanks

Stuart

I've noticed when you are in a view other than panes and you delete an item at the bottom.  A blank cover will take it's place in the top window.  Pressing f5 will not clear it.  Backing out of the genre, artist, album, etc... and going back in will clear it.  I discussed this with another user and he sees the same issue.

Last night, ver 185, playing for 120+ people at a dance and 4 inexplicable crashes.

The only thng in common was the file type: mp3.

This has happened with other versions for the last three weeks.

Can anyone tell me the latest version before this problem started?

This problem is bad enough when playing at home or in the office but it is not acceptable when I'm playing for a dance.

Thanks.

I'm using 185, which is running almost constantly, always with MP3 files, and I've had no issues with it crashing.

Just ripped to Albums to APE consecuatively.
Setting is Fast.  Secure Ripping.
Progress bar is at 80%.  Yet the ripping is complete.

Please move the following to another thread should it be regarded not as bug report but as feature request.

In Audio node displaying Albums pane:

1.   If some tracks in an album are coded differently than others in the same album (e. g. some are MP3 and some are FLAC) then this is displayed as 2 albums, one on top of the other.  Perhaps it has to do with different handling of album/track images for the two formats.
2.   Albums with the same name but different artist (and different image) are displayed on top of each other. For example all albums named “Greatest Hits” are stacked together. I would like to have them separate.

General remark: When looking at Artists or Genres then the animated stacked view/classification is not only beautiful but also very useful because in this case you are visually searching for an Artist (and then one of that artists albums) or for a Genre (and then for one of albums in that genre). When visually searching for an Album you simply look for a picture of that album – having 10 Greatest Hits stacked on top of each other doesn’t help because you are not searching for Greatest Hits but for a certain picture.

Use a skin.
Minimize the Audio Analysis window.
Try to restore it.
The window interaction is troublesome.
If you know what to expect, you can figure it out.
A newbie will get stuck.

Could you add to the contextual menu of each playlist the link (~ an option) "Edit this Playlist"? PLEASE
That will increase much the software ergonomics.   ;)

FLAC files tagged w/ Cover Art & art stored in folder as folder.jpg are not showing up in Playing Now or Playing Now plugin although the Cover Art is displayed as a Tile.

1. I reported this a few builds ago:

Shuffle off but selecting file still shows tracks shuffled. I wish you guys would consider shuffling actual playback instead of the tracks. I don't know if the setting is sticking from when shuffle was on previously; regardless, this problem is very troublesome.

2. Cover art fails to be written as file in folder when you drag image onto Statistics>Image in Action Window.

3. If you view albums as sorted by genre, any albums or compilations with various genres get listed one after another at the top (before A), shouldn't they be grouped the same way (Multiple Artists) are grouped in Artist? Not sure if this is a bug but it sure would be great if this could be changed or fixed.

1. Multiple, unwanted & redundant, sorting variables getting added to sorting expression for view schemes. Finding this in a TON of my Date (Year fields) when added through customize current view of Album tiles; some kind of library corruption:

1/1/1973 12:00 AM

The format is the same with various years plugged in. Some albums have all tracks date changed as noted, some not onl;y have two or three changed.

I think I have emptied (corrupted) date fields as well. I am using only Playing Now plugin.

2. Some FLAC files still showing 1899

All CDs seem to be ripping with "Disc #" set as 1, even if I clear the field before I rip. I have to wait until after rip and do a "Rename files from properties" to fix the problem.

Thumbnails issue still persists for me.

Click on any non-defualt library and all thumbnails are redrawn from scratch. A new folder for the thumbnails gets created, but then promptly gets deleted when you leave that library.

I have my thumbnails behoaviour set to "Leave" upon exit.

I have also changed the "Thumbnails basepath" value in the registry on both of my computers to:
G:\Media Centre\Thumbnails\

so that it can be shared by my two computers (G being a portable drive).

selection:

list some files, make some changes so that a refresh removes some files...
make a selection...
hit refresh...
Note that the list changes, but the selection does not. For example, what was selected may move up the list if files above it have been removed, those files are now not selected. the files that have moved up to the place where the selection indicator was are now selected. (that reads like a bag of bolts, but hopefully you get what I mean)

search bar: I've been seeing the following intermittant wierdness:
after clicking in the search bar, the cursor must remain inside it to be able to type in it, move the cursor outside the search field and it immediately loses focus
the file list updates as you pause for a brief moments thought, everything in the search bar becomes selected, and the next keypress wipes out everything that went before it. (have you any idea how frustrating this one can be?)

inline editing of the file name using a [filename] column...
After editing, pressing the [down] cursor key should apply the edit, and move the edit focus down to the next file.
At times, each press of the down key would cause MC to exit edit mode, requiring F2 to be hit before editing could continue. In limited testing, I think this is related to the action window. I had tag info and filetype info open, closing them stopped this behaviour for a while.

Ripping from multiple drives results in rip results posted from only one album; never saw this before until now on my x64 machine.

My XP rig has 5 drives and rips were all reported correctly. Check my system specs below; I added a new Lite-On burner and for some reason it reads as another NEC drive. MC or x64?

EDIT - just checked MC CD & DVD Burning tab in Options and my drives are listed correctly there, as in Nero, and by x64 explorer & device manager.

Auto-Rip not working:

I have auto-rip enabled as well as Media Insert for CD set to "Rip".

DVDs auto-start but CDs do not auto-rip.

This one has been around for at least two builds:

Send an album to CD/DVD burner. Shuffle is off. Tracks added and burned in random order. Yet another reason to fix this destructive shuffle method that physically shuffles tracks.

Switching zones containing empty Playing Now lists with any viz (other than coverart) crashes MC.

Insert two CDs to auto-rip, one failed to access server (Diana Krall - Live In Paris ?) Choose not to rip w/o album info, other rip begins, MC GUI still unavailable after 3 minutes. Needs manual refresh of view scheme; MC is very excessively "sticky" when starting rips, finishing rips, and especially trying to use YADB.

Try to auto-rip cd while one is ripping makes Cancel button become Close button appear while ripping.

Is it right that if you change the sorting method on the bottom files list, the top tiles should also change order? That's what's happening to me.

I was browsing albums in the tiles and sorting by "date". I also had the album thumbnails sorting by date. When I change the album thumbnails sorting to "default", the top tiles resorted to match the bottom album thumbnails.

Selected 10 album tiles for Internet Cover Art lookup, hung process overnight, stuck in the middle, and MC needed a hard shutdown.
