Media Server issue.
« on: October 09, 2006, 03:02:17 pm »

I use media server to send files to my Soundbridge. If media server is running and I close Media Centre the server closes too. Though I want to keep the media server running. I just started using MC12 yesterday so maybe there's a setting i missed.

Any ideas?

I assume you mean that you're using the "Library Server" in MC to serve your library.

Media Server was the old name for this function.  The new Media Server (available from Program Files/...J River Media Center) can serve as a shell for all MC servers.  So, if you run it, MC will not completely close when you exit.  It will still leave a small version in memory, so Library Server will continue to function.

I am running the new media server shell as you mention. However that won't stay open after I close MC.

I fixed that today, it'll be in the next build.

Excuse me for being behind the times but I decided to try this out. Without reading this topic, I first went to Tools \ Advanced Tools  \ Media Server..., clicked it, and nothing happened. It had 3 dots so that usually means I'm supposed to get a dialog. Tried the Start Programs Media Server and still nothing. Time to search the forum and I found this.

The service Library Server did start the server. I now notice that there's a Media Server icon in the system tray. Shouldn't there have been some dialog when starting Media Server?

Media Server just starts Media Server mode, where Media Center stays running in the background for the various servers.

I'm sure it's coming but time to update the help file as I could find nothing about "Media Server" in it. Found the info on Library Server though.
