[Yaobing] Playing an asf file using ffdshow?
« on: November 14, 2006, 12:19:42 pm »

Hi,

Is there any way to play an asf file using ffdshow? I'd like to do that because ffdshow has a "normalize audio" option that would be good for some of my asf files that have a very low volume level. My avi/xvid video files play using ffdshow but the asf ones do not.

I believe I can do that by right-clicking the playing window -> DirectShow Filters -> Select Filters... but I'm lost as to what to do next.

Thanks for any help.

Sorry, filter selection is ignored for Windows Media file types. Microsoft filters are the most stable filters for Windows Media files.

On second thought, maybe it is still a good idea to give users an option.

Look for the change in the next build.

Sorry for bringing this up after that long, but... was this feature ever implemented? I'm trying to play some asf files using the ffdshow audio decoder for taking advantage of the "normalizing" feature, but it can't seem to make it work. I right click on the display window -> Select filters -> (right pane) select ffdshow audio decoder. I get the confirmation that the filter will be used when the next asf file plays, but actually it does not.

Thanks in advance.

The feature was added sometime ago. You can select FFDShow Audio decoder, and MC will use it (as long as you have configured it to decode WMA).

(as long as you have configured it to decode WMA).

That was the problem! WMA was disabled in the ffdshow settings. Now working OK.
Thank you very much, Yaobing.  :)
