on my  server in library manger i made one called chrismedia for location is this where i put the noip address? and then are there any other settings that must be done? is there someone here that has msn messenger or yahoo that would be willing to help me with this? to help me test this?

id really like to get this setup so it works.
thank you.

or is there a walk through that i am missing?? been searching the forum here and wiki and have checked contents but cant find how to set it up\the steps for it. and am confussed on some of the steps in the wiki

No, that's not the place on the server side.

On your end, in MC under the tree, get into Services & Plugins > Library Server.
Click the options button.
Select Manual Port Selection and fill in the desired port
(I really wouldn't use 80, I suggest using a port near 10000, then you'll have to set your firewall to allow it in).
Then click the Start Server button.
You'll see some status text indicating that it's waiting for connections.

On the remote end, get into File > Library > Library Manager.
Click Add button.
Fill in your  host:port  there.
ex.  xtacbyme.noip.com:10000
Click OK.

Will get connected and download the library unless you have some firewall issues.

thanks so much for the reply zx

question about the server. so on my server under file libbrary i dont need to make chrisserver library?

my client\laptop when on the road will connect to whatever library is on at my home\server?

also can i be away use my laptop connect to server, and can someone who is at home still use mediacenter?

also im assuming when you say then you'll have to set your firewall to allow it in. thatmeans go into outer and open the port i chose? i dont have a firewall\no zonealarm.

also if i remote desktop connection into my dads machine now, open media center i should be able to test this right? cause thats what i have been doing to test if it will work. i just tried it, and it searched for about 30 seconds and then i got the error it couldn't find chris computer it will use default library. could that be cause im remoted into dads computer and trying to test it?

also i have respond to auto detection requests selected. do i need to uncheck that?
and i do NOt have anything for enable authentication, no username and no password. do those need to be checked filled in? i have read the wiki, but just dont understand what needs to be checked or unchecked, for my setup.

thanks again in advance.

If you're setting up the server, that's correct.  Library Manager lets you set up servers your client will connect to.

Yes.  The router needs to forward requests on the port you're using to the correct internal address.  Search here for older posts for more info.

I don't know, but test with MC.

No.  If you use them, you'll just get a login and password before connecting.  If you don't use them, MC will just connect.

Read this section of the wiki - you'll have to figure out the command for your router:

I WANNA GIVE A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU..IT WORKS. WHERE I HAD SCREWED UP WAS I FORGOT\DIDNT SEE THE PART OF PUTTIN 5556 UDP IN MY ROUTER. THE SECOND I PUT THAT IN IT WORKED. :D

ALSO FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT MAY BE INTERESTED IN MY TEST OF SITTING AT MY SERVER, AND LOGGING INTO MY DADS COMPUTER VIA REMOTE DESKTOP CONNECTION, AND THEN WHILE IN DAD'S COMPUTER I OPENED MEDIA CENTER AND I WAS ABLE TO CONNECT TO MY HOME SERVER THAT I WAS REMOTING INTO..   I THOUGHT THAT WAS KINDA NEAT.

AGAIN THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP WITH THIS ISSUE, AND ALL PAST ISSUES I'VE HAD :)

if i may add 2 more questions... When im on the road and i connect to my server, will it have to download the server everytime i close media center?  on my laptop after it downloads the server, will it keep it in memory? is it possible too? can i save it so it doesnt have to download it everytime?

also if im on my laptop connected to server on the road can i save songs or burn disks\transfer songs from mediacenter to my cell phone?... i tried copy\pasting and moving the file from media center to desktop but it doesnt work?

thanks again :)

The library is downloaded each time you connect.  The developers may be working on enhancing Library Server.  You also cannot edit tags or do a lot of other things over library server.  At the moment, it is mainly good for listening to music, viewing your pictures, and streaming only some video types.

From what I've heard, it sounds like they are working on more video streaming and possibly even TV streaming from your server to your desktop/laptop.  So it would possibly compete with slingbox because you could stream your TV from your home TV tuner over the internet to your laptop...or even to another desktop in your same house and you wouldn't need coax cable and a dedicated TV.  You may be able to view TV on your computer without a TV tuner through MC.

I posted a very lengthy suggestion on how to enhance library server that would include having users and rights for those users.  The library server could almost be enhanced to provide everything--including ripping CDs, etc.--so it would be the best solution for multi-user/system environments.
