Podcast-caused errors since .318?
« on: September 20, 2007, 11:43:31 pm »

Ever since build .318, I've been regularly getting the following error, followed by program abort:

The instruction at "0x1004583d" referenced memory at "0x01a9a508". The memory could not be "read".

I thought the upgrade to build .329 would clear things up, but the problem persists.  Specifically, I only see the error when a podcast is downloading and encounters some sort of problem (i.e.  download stops).  Any thoughts?

My sysinfo is as follows:

It happened again.  Media Center ran perfectly all night and, despite re-syncing my full iPod library while converting and serving various music files to my TiVo, remained stable.  Just now, when trying to download a podcast, Media Center crashed.  Here's the error message:

The instruction at "0x1004583d" referenced memory at "0x01608190". The memory could not be "read".

Help!

Turn on logging (under MC Help menu) and post the last lines after a crash.  Look for the word crash in the log.

Is iTunes converting the files to a lower bitrate?

Here's the crash log obtained from the latest crash:

BTW, I've de-installed iTunes, so the odds of it converting files to a lower bitrate are slim.  Let me know if you need more information.

Help!  It's still happening - although I find it happens less when I only try to download one podcast (vs 2 or more) at a time:

Three separate podcasts:

1).  Dennis Miller's radio podcast (http://www.910knew.com/podcast/miller.xml)

2).  Bill Handel's radio podcast (http://www.kfi640.com/podcast/BillHandel.xml)

3).  KEXP Music That Matters podcast (http://www.kexp.org/podcast.xml)

When I try to download more than one stream at once, I experience random crashes.  If I limit my downloads to one stream at a time, I can't reproduce the crash.

We can't reproduce it - is it still happening in build 338?

Yep (click on the image to see what I'm talking about).  And, in the .338 bugs thread, another user is reporting a similar event.  What info. can I give you to help find this one?

95% of the time, I'm running Media Center with logging off.  I only enable it when I experience a crash, restart Media Center, and re-try my previous actions in an attempt to recreate the crash.  Frequently, I can replicate the event (posted above).  I'll turn logging on and try to force another crash, then send you the results.

Thanks for your time,
