streaming glitches
« on: November 02, 2007, 04:56:11 pm »

hello - I'm using MC 12.0.329 and I'm having trouble -- glitches in the audio stream -- both when streaming 128 Kbps MP3 and 128 Kbps WMA

For example the following stream:

http://www.dnbtv.com/128.m3u

plays with no issues in WMP11 but produces glitches when I try to stream it using JRMC12.  JRMC12 seems to have problems with 128Kbps streams on my box.

I should add that it is not just this stream... I have the same problem with SomaFM streams and other sites.

I don't think it is audio card driver etc. as these streams work fine in WMP11 on the same machine & network.

Ideas?

I also have what could be described as glitches with streaming.

Long hesitations before playing, breaks in play, and, quite often MC12 fails to find the stream at all.
"Media Center Encountered Errors while trying to play the last several files.  Please make sure....."

On the same machine accessing the same streams in the same way MC11 still does its faultless work.

Cheers

I have the same problem. There are glitches when playing internet radio (shoutcast.com) every 2-5 seconds. The stream on smoothjazz.com  works fine with media center 11. With media center 12 neither the real-stream nor the mp3/windowsmedia-stram works. Errormessages in both cases. Is there a solution??? Hope you understand me. Bad english, sorry.

Thank you for the fast help, but the problem is still there (on 3 different computers). Also the latest version plays this glitches - and now the livestream stops every 5seconds (with the streams on shoutcast.com). On smoothjazz.com i've got error messages. There is no stream that works. (And they worked fine a half year ago with media center 11).  :(

Can you post a couple of links that don't work right?

Just clicking on your links:
#2 plays fine (4 minutes in now)
#4 is rejected because I have no Real codecs installed - try searching for "Real Alternative" codecs.
#1 and #3 won't play, but:

Using MC's Open URL
#1 and #3 play

Did you try visiting these links from within MC's Audio/Web Media?

Thank you. With open->url it works, but there are still the "glitches". And this on two independent computers. WIth RealPlayer the Sterams sound clean. With the alternative codecs the same problem... I have to use RealPlayer in the future :-(

I saw no glitches in several minutes of playback.  How often do they occur?

Every 2-8 seconds theres a gltich and the stream skips a little bit. My internet conncetion is very fast and now i've tried WindowsMediaPlayer. Theres no problem. No glitches, the stream doesn't skip. Same with RealPlayer. Can I change the preferences for internet streams in media center (buffer, internet-conectionspeed...)?

So something else is going on.  The ones I tried played perfectly.

Any third party plug-ins?  Anything special about your install?  Visualizations, etc?

Here's an example of the kind of thing I'm looking for:

On both computers there is a standard-installation. No plug-ins, standard-visualizations.
Very fast and friendly support! Thank you very much!!!!

Simplify your system if you can.  Uninstall the virus checker.  Remove the USB drive.

We had a Windows machine that was running really slowly here and it turned out that it had a bad USB hub.

Reboot your network, starting at the cable modem (or similar).

I have uninstalled the firewall and the virus checker. I have removed the usb-device and tried to change the settings of my adsl-modem-router. No effect. My other computer (nacked win xp installation, only one installation (media center 12)) has the same problem. The problem is there since i have installed the latest versions of media center. Before the installation all was normal...

Where can I get the latest version? On the homepage there ist Version: 12.0.329. AutoUpdate says there is nothing to update...

Likewise - I'm using 12.0.374 and I'm not seeing any problems streaming 128Kbps MP3 feeds as I was with the earlier . version.
