Media Center 12.0.515
« on: June 18, 2008, 08:44:19 am »

This is the latest version of MC 12.0.  Any MC12.0 license will work with it.  Please post bugs here.  Please start a new thread for anything requiring discussion.  Non-bug posts will be deleted or moved.

This latest build (usually safe) of MC12.0 is here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/MC12/MediaCenter120515.exe

12.0.515 (6/17/2008)

1. NEW: Right-click menu option (and MCCommand) for zooming to preset sizes (fit to window, 100%, 200%) in DX video playback.
2. Fixed: Auto-play entries could show the wrong icon for the program if the program was installed with the /NoAssociations switch.
3. Changed: UPnP defaults for Denon changed (allow international characters and only stream audio).
4. Fixed: Some devices are listed twice in the camera selection choices.
5. Fixed: Empty memory bays were being listed as cameras in the camera selection choices.
6. Fixed: Some popup dialogs would pop under the program.
7. Fixed: When a worker thread showed a popup dialog, it could dead-lock the program.
8. Changed: Changed how non-video area is painted in VMR9 Renderless Mode.
9. Fixed: Audible downloads not honoring download path set in options.
10. Optimized: Media Server uses less memory.
11. Changed: Using the Media Center shortcut to show an existing Media Center would change the cursor to an hourglass for several seconds.
12. Fixed: The Tag Action Window could open with an incorrect size.
13. Changed: Clicking and dragging horizontally will begin a drag when leaving the clicked list column instead of when leaving the list.

12.0.514 (6/12/2008)

1. Changed: More logging in VMR9 Renderless Mode.
2. Changed: In VMR9 Renderless mode, if we fail to create a fullscreen exclusive rendering device, we retry by creating a windowed device.
3. Optimized: Resizing pieces of the interface using a view splitter updates faster.
4. Changed: Reversed a previous change on how analog TV channels are played with Hauppauge WinTV HVR 1600 device.
5. Fixed: Tabbing through Panes On Top (thin) was not possible.
6. Fixed: With bidirectional panes, selecting a middle pane value and then selecting "All" in the same pane would not update all the panes.
7. Fixed: Importing iTunes playlists wasn't parsing dates correctly.
8. Fixed: TV Channels backup and restore did not work on Vista.
9. Changed: TV Channels backup format is changed from Microsoft registry backup to xml.
10. NEW: Added Denon to the list of UPnP devices autodetected.

12.0.513 (6/9/2008)

1. NEW: In DX video playback with "VMR9 Renderlesss Mode", the renderer switches to fullscreen exclusive mode when MC's display window is maximized.
2. Optimized: Panes On Top (thin) views are faster.
3. Changed: Improved keyboard navigation when searching inside Panes On Top (thin). (up / down / enter / escape)
4. Changed: Revised how the alphabet for Panes On Top (thin) works so it only enters a single letter.
5. Changed: The search box with Panes On Top (thin) treats a single letter as a "begins with" search instead of a search anywhere rule.
6. Changed: Panes On Top (thin) searching only searches from the start of words, so "loy" won't return "pink floyd" but will return "lester loyd".
7. Changed: Cross-fade (aggressive) does not fade down the end of a song when mixing with a new song. (but still fades the old song when manually switching tracks before the end)
8. Fixed: From the main search box, picking "Wizard...", then entering a rule, wouldn't leave the search box in wizard mode.
9. Changed: Grouping headers in file lists are less prominent.
10. Fixed: Gridlines were not drawing properly in the panes.
11. Changed: When converting audio for playback on Tivo or UPnP devices, the format will be changed to 44.1 KHz stereo.
12. Fixed: Some Audible files would not play properly on UPnP devices.
13. Optimized: Improved performance of panes with bi-directional filtering enabled.
14. Changed: With bi-directional pane filtering enabled, panes later in the filter order are reset to "All" when changing a pane earlier in the filter order. (use Reset Selection to start over and define a new filter order)
15. Optimized: Significantly shortened the time it takes for "Choose DirectShow Filters" dialog to initialize and appear.
16. Fixed: Sorting presets saved in Customize Current View would not be preserved.
17. NEW: Delete Confirmation dialog offers the option to delete stack files.  (Defaults to checked if all stacks are collapsed.  If checked will delete all stack files even for expanded stacks.)

Left click lasso doesn't work in Tiles, and the behavior in Panes is akin to not having a left-click lasso. Left-click lasso should be identical to right-click and optimized because apps like StrokeIt allow the user to user right-click mouse movement shortcuts.

- I choose 'Tag' from 'Action Window' in the left of the screen..
- I choose one song from library (left side of screen) in which i want to change the 'Genre', 'Artist' etc.
- I'm choosing the field 'Genre' from the 'Tag' and the fields opening. I choose 'match code' and i see the list with all the 'Genres'. In the older versions when i started to wrote a letter for example 'k' into the field, this rolls down and it brings me the 'Genres' starting from 'k'. Now when i open a field and type a letter the list rolls down with english but when i choose greeks with alt+enter doesn't work. If i typing a genre in greek the auto complete works. Only doesn't roll down.
In artist box this works fine.

I remind you that at the version .497 'Tag' works perfectly.
Can you see it? (I've already posted several times for this problem but nothing).
Thanks in advanced.

Date bug
« Reply #3 on: June 19, 2008, 10:19:43 pm »

AudioScrobbler uses Date field, and many of my date fields are xx/xx/xxxx 7:34pm.

I decided to use  Move/Copy fields and copy Date (Year) to overwrite the 'detailed' Date field (above), and when I try to do this

copy 1973  to overwrite this 01/01/1973 7:34pm

this is always the result:

1905      05/31/1905

for .ape, .mp3, and .flac

Many of my Date fields are filled with just xxxx, like the Date (Year) field, so I thought I could accomplish this. I have podcast which have only the year xxxx in the date field, but MC won't let me accomplish this manually.

What am I missing?

Real strange glitch here. Same view schemes except I remove one level such as Genre, and MC is not resizing tiles correctly. See how the widescreen tiles throw off the whole view.

bad = http://picasaweb.google.com/Catuccio/MC12/photo#5213815669701356546

This is repeated in a few of my view schemes and sub-schemes; they are identical except for one tier being removed.

If I do a search on Playing Now, then switch to a different tab, then go back to the playing now tab and click on the Search Box X to clear it, the search remains effective until I type something new.

The "Move / Copy Fields..." dialog doesn't honor the custom name of renamed fields.

Take a look here for more detailed Info.

The cache stack still doesn't work, I have a quick look on the site but was struggling to find any conformation that this issue has been picked up (I thought I had read it had but you know what thought did).

So the problem is that although the files are converted and saved to the HH they are not saved to the stack and thus the file has to be converted for each HH used. This feature worked with 120504 (and posibly other version but the next update I have is 120512 and that didn't work).

The sorting options available via the Edit Scheme>Edit Included Files causes the above glitch. When all items are removed from the sort list, the thumbs are resized correctly. I think Lyrics was the top level sort item on the particular example I noted via screenshots. I don't understand how these get set as they differ from what we can set in Customize View Scheme.

BUT, when I sort by Genre, tiles of Albums are spaced too far apart much like the bad example above. Could you guys take a look at this...it's pretty weird  ;D

Very smart! Will this be expanded to cover TV viewing as well?

I think I will do it, for making the interface uniform across the video playback types. It is however mostly useful for video file playback where the video dimension is small. For TV and DVD, where the video has at least 480 horizontal lines, viewing them in the entire window seems to be logical.

Great! The difference between TV sources in Europe (some are 4:3, others are 16:9) means that you need different zoom levels. So it would be very nice. I would actually love to be able to do AR as well that way!

Btw do you need any VMR9 Renderless logs or anything? I have been "otherwise engaged" (building a garage and other non computer and media related stuff) for a while, but if you need me to run any tests now I should be able to do that from tomorrow.

The logs provided by other people did not reveal anything obvious. Hold off testing until I come up with new ideas. Thanks.

The aspect ratio of thumbnails is picked automatically based on the median ideal ratio of the items in the list.  It doesn't analyze every item in a large list for speed, so it's possible a sort could change the ideal ratio.

I am still getting an annoying issue, it's been happening for a few months:

when I do Rename Files From Properties, I send the files to F:\[ mp3 ]\ready to burn\
But MC changes the folder name to F:\[mp3 ]\ready to burn\  dropping a space between "[" and "m"

When I go to schedule a task (play music...), I cannot modify the Search Results box.  Probably an oversight and easy fix.  So temporarily I'm making new playlists (extra hassle).

Also, can you please add several options:
1. Fade in music over X seconds (I'd like a minute or two)
2. Set volume to X %
3. Sleep timer (thought Duration would do this but apparently not?)

I could actually see using this as a full featured alarm clock.  I know it's a bit to ask to turn a ~$1,500 (whatever unbelievable amount people's computers cost) computer system into a $5 (or super duper $85) alarm clock, but the key is that we have all our music, playlists, etc.

Lastly, over library server I get the "MC encountered errors playing" message.  But if I double click a song it plays fine.  Thanks!

The problem is I have two very similar view schemes with the same sorting. One uses for Tiles (main fields): Genre, Album Artist (auto), Album whereas the other simply has Album. The latter is a sub-scheme of former, and the former spaces 'correctly' i.e. nice & tight when set to 0.

Problem with Smartlists:

playlistid==349057809 [Artist]=[Tosca] OR [_remix]=[Tosca] ~sort=Random
works as expected

playlistid==349057809 [Artist]=[Thievery Corporation] OR [_remix]=[Thievery Corporation] ~sort=Random
doesn't work correctly (shows tracks that aren't in the referenced playlist, even shows tracks when the playlist is empty)

Both playlists used to work fine, can't say which build started to mess up the second one.

Oh, and "Update Tags (from library)" doesn't clear certain tags that are inside the mp3 file, but empty in the library. This happened with "Bios" and "Comment" tags. I had to remove all tags and update the mp3 files to get rid of the old entries, but that proccess takes a very long time (whole mp3 file has to be re-written).

The View Scheme editor doesn't have an "Import/Export" button. This makes editing schemes quite difficult, especially if one needs to insert a rule "between" two other rules. There should be a way to edit View Schemes via the "old" text mode.

When editing View Schemes, the default sorting will be added to the Scheme after exiting the scheme editor, even though i did delete the "Modify" part of the scheme. My idea was to have the "Shuffle" modifier in the parent Scheme, and no sort modifiers at all in the child schemes. This should work as per logic, as the "Honor parent scheme..." box is ticked.

Trying to copy mp3s from a CD to another location using "Rename, Copy, and Move Files" doesn't work but gives the message

Not all of the slected tracks can be renamed.

So if I have a mp3-CD I first have to copy all mp3 to a writetable Drive and then move (or copy) all files using some rules in "Rename, Copy, and Move Files".

About a week ago, MC wouldn't quit, the process remained in Task Manager until an audioscrobbler error message appeared (using the playingnow plugin feature). I couldn't kill the process and ended up corrupted my database on a hard power down.

Luckily I had a library folder backup because I could load the saved library. I had corrupted database (library) files that I couldn't replace or delete and luckily checkdisk fixed everyting on reboot.

Now I have the same problem, or am about to. I was ripping discs, switched views, and selected a video file to play. The music currently playing ended at the end of the song and MC is locked up and won't unload itself from Task Manager using 285mb of memory. I was able to power down the PC normally.

I know there's not a lot you guys can do but the last time this happened, and this time, when I reboot I get a fast blip of BSOD and reboot. Using Last Know Godd Config solves it, but observing the same thing twice after an MC lockup is cause enough for me just post this.

Here's the end of my log:

CMCShutdownHelper::Cleanup: Start
