I have some jpg files of pictures I've taken that are not readable by MC14.
I can open them without problems in any other program I try (windows explorer, picasa, irfanview, paintbrush, etc.), but with MC all I get is an "Image failed to load" Information box.

If JR want to debug the problem, here's one of those files:

XnView is unable to open the file either.

There is something funny going on. IrfanView will open the file as it is. Photoshop CS4 will warn that the file might be corrupted and will display everything except the last 8 horizontal lines at the bottom.

A double lossless rotation in IrfanView (flip vertical twice to get the same thing) will make the file readable everywhere. However the filesize differs 286 bytes due probably to internal storage optimization in IrfanView.

I wonder if it's a bad jpg file, even one of the specially crafted files used to exploit security holes.

I guess we'll find out.

On a related note, MC fails to open CMYK jpeg files created by Illustrator.

Is there any way to check if that's the case?
The only programs I think I've used on those files are MC (for tagging) and Bulk Rename Utility (for file renaming). Except for that, the file in the url was never edited by me.
Unfortunately I don't have the original file created by the camera, because back then I didn't use to keep a backup of the original untouched camera files.

Yep, it works! Thanks for the workaround.

The filename (TibetNepal-20061018-144759.mg.jpg) has two extensions, mg followed by jpg.

My e-mail program won't save it to the desktop.

Try renaming the file.

More later.

The files are truncated.

It's a gray area, when an image fails inside a decoder for some reason, whether it's better to show what was decoded (although big chunks or even all of it could be junk) or to fail to load.

We were failing to load, but will change to showing as much as we can.

In Media Center 14.0.44 (available in about a week):
Changed: When loading corrupt / truncated JPEG files, as much of the image as possible will be shown instead of failing to load.
