Umm...how do I go about exchanging my remote.  The up arrow button seems to be amiss.  It does not "click" like the other buttons and is hypersensitive to the slightest touch.
Thanks.
You can just send it back.  We'll send another.  Please contact deanna at jriver for details.  I'm sorry for the problem.

I have no trouble learning the codes from the MC remote in MC15.  However I cant learn codes from other remotes.  Any ideas?    It just keeps reading "learning" I can get it to read instantly if I use the remote from you folks no others I have tried seem to work.  Help please. :)

I just received the remote control. Works fine so far, except a few things I either need to learn or do not use ...

When I boot the PC with the remote receiver plugged in, Windows does not boot.  The PC hangs at the Windows start screen forever - at least for 30 minutes ...

Windows is XP SP3. When I plug it in after booting without remote control, everything works fine.

I do not think it's designed like this.

Any idea why this happens?

When I boot the PC with the remote receiver plugged in, Windows does not boot.
It could be security software, or a bad driver, or bad hardware.

Try deleting the driver and letting Windows install it again.

Try a different USB port.

I'm finding it very difficult to find any information on the features of this remote.  Care to share what they are?  Does it only operate in theatre mode?  Can I use it to control my TV/DVR (given the right amount of receivers)?

It's described here:
http://wiki.jrmediacenter.com/index.php/Media_Center_Remote

The ad above also goes there.

It's for use with Theater View, which the Green Button activates.  You can teach it to control other devices, using the transceiver and emitters.

I saw that I was unable to zoom in enough on the remote to actually see the remote buttons, and because of that I don't actually know what it can and cannot do.  Perhaps it would be beneficial to myself and other to have a feature list.  I assume I am not the only one wondering about this.  I'm pretty much an idiot, so I don't even know what "green button activities" are.

The green button is special.  On most machines, it will bring up MC in Theater View mode.  In MC, it also duplicates what the F11 button does, switching from the current view to display view to the home menu.

Here are some more pictures.

Thank you for those extra images.  They were very helpful, specifically the closeups of the remote.  I think I'll order one now.

Good.  If you use MC from across the room, it will change your life and you'll grow new hair.

I wouldn't use that as a selling point.  Oh, I get it, this is a scam to get everyone to buy more razors. :)

I received my remote today.  I like it very much, it's very easy to use.  There was one thing I had trouble with.  The grouping for video files are not done the way there are in the standard mode.  Normally, I have video categorized by genre, then by series and season.  That is not the case in theatre mode.  I'm wondering what I should do because right now all my videos are a mess, as they're all lumped together.  I don't know why the tags aren't being recognized.

Any ideas?

I have universal remotes so I only need the receiver (not the remote or the emitter).  Any chance you would be willing to sell me a few of the receivers for less (I can get a different remote+receiver set for less but I would prefer to give you guys the money).  Thanks.

Also received a remote yesterday in the mail, it works great! One obstacle in installation, Windows Media Center was responding to the remote commands in tandem to J River after Win 7 automatically downloaded drivers. The solution is to disable WMC completely.

J River was already an killer media platform for my PC. Now it's an actual health liability, I'll never leave the couch.

Thanks for the kind words.  I'm glad you're satisfied.

MC can disable WMC for you.  It's a setting called "Disable Windows Media Center..." in Tools/Options/Theater View/Behavior.

Is there any way of disabling the power button's default feature and using it for something else? I have no use for it setting my computer on standby and would like to use this to turn off my amplifier instead.

Problem is, every time I try to do teach MC to do that and I press the button, it turns off the computer ;)

I don't know how to do that.  Sorry.  Maybe you could assign it to a different, unused button.

Ok, this may seem silly, and sorry if I'm missing something obvious, but how do I assign a button through the "Commands" dialog? I only seem to be able to do it via the wizard....

Greetings all

I would like to buy two sets of remotes each with an additional emitter.

This is for delivery in Canada, What would be the shipping charge. And
how do I specify quantities and amounts in the checkout process for
PayPal.

Also, could I buy an upgrade to version 15 in the same transaction?

Thanks for keeping it simple.

Best Regards

Yes, but the Green Button may not start MC.  You'll have to start it manually.  Then everything will work.

10 days?  It depends on whether it gets held up at the border for taxes.

Regarding using the remote as an RF controller, this "extender" works great for any standard IR remote using AAA batteries:

http://www.amazon.com/Next-Generation-Remote-Control-Extender/dp/B000C1Z0HA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1286916493&sr=8-1

Using the extender, I control my home entertainment center—located on the first floor—from either the master bedroom on the second floor, or from the patio. I don't even have to aim the remote at the RF>IR receiver, as the RF signal is strong enough to do the trick through ceilings and walls.

i bought the remote at the start of this thread.. started to use it today to see if it will say bey bey to girder.
so i have a green button problem  :)
im on xp. and it works nicely. i can set a bunch of commands to the green button. and that works to. brilliant. now the problem. when i click on the my music button, which has its own commands, it will always run the ones from the green button too. is that to be expected. when i disable the green button command it works for my music nicely.. and its true for all 4 top buttons.  :)

I have a machine on XP and it works here.  I haven't programmed anything to the Green Button.

Girder?

Under Theater View settings, is the box for Disable Windows Media Center checked?

yes, windows media center disabled is checked and girder is not running. the problem is also a bit the other way around. when i put something under the green button, those commands are also executed when clicking on my tv, my music.. etc.

it seems like the settings where registring hid commands. because that was enabled. turning that of, and the remote software nicely sees other trigger codes. a pity though they are not working. the mc keeps just doing what it did. and since i dont have a tv i just wanted to change that in playing now... with hid enabled and mce disabled that works. not sure why the learning with mce is doing well, but the execution fails.

How is this shipped? I see that my shipping address needs to be the same as my billing address. If it ships via u.s. postal service, that's no problem for me. If not, I guess I'm out of luck. If I'm out of luck, will any mce remote work with J River? I know some come with ir blaster capability and others do not. Other than that, is there some difference in this setup than in the other mce remotes out there?
Really great software btw......(really tempted to update to mc15, just don't wanna upset the apple cart!)
