Create a "playing now" View
« on: September 07, 2009, 11:35:43 am »

Hello,
is it possible to create an independant "playing now" view ?
It 'll be great to add another playing now minimalist view when there is 2 views in one screen.
Thank you again.

You could use tabs and keep a 'Playing Now' tab open.

I think they should implement an option to allow views, columns, and everything to be locked so you can't change them by clicking on them accidently or changing windows.

I agree, i would like to see all panels be movable in MC14 and then have the ability to lock it.

I think this may be possible using different zones.

Many have been asking for this before - and also for me that would be one of the most valuable features for MC - instead they add a notes function  :(

Such a minor tweak pales into insignificance beside Notes. But maybe it's more likely to happen now that they have Notes for tracking such trivia. ;D

OK, so I'm telling you - please add such a little nice tiny feature to MC14 that allows to lock each individual view against accidental removal or exchange.

E.gg add a lock symbol at each view tab.

How could then the behaviour look like?
I have 3 split views visible (1) Playing Now (2) Albums (3) Tagging duplicates
(1) is locked and (3) is locked

1. Focus is on (1) Playing Now - I choose another view (4) Samplers 2009
    Actions:
   a. (1) is locked - show status message "Playing Now is currently locked..." (message only for information why change can't be applied)
   b. Apply the view change to (4) for the next unlocked view => (2) Albums

2. Search music while Focus is on (1) Playing Now (searching via search field on top left)
    Actions:
   a. see 1a
   b. Show search results in next unlocked view (Comment: for searching in current locked view I can still use ctrl+q)

3. What if all views are locked?
Show status message "All views locked - please unlock view before switching to another view"

... just some thoughts how to solve this. I don't see any complexity - so what are you waiting for? - Your customers would praise you  :D

It would be nice if this would result in intelligent behaviour rather than a "nag" when it's necessary to protect a locked view.

What if the next (and only) unlocked view happens to be hidden at the time. Using that would be even worse—the new view or search results would be in the hidden, and it would seem as if nothing happened.

Would it make sense to open a new tab for a new view or search results whenever the current view is locked? If so, should the locked view stay "on top," or would it be sufficient that it can brought back with a click on it's tab?

Intelligent behaviour and new tab for searches under locked views, and, if we have focus on a locked view and we try to change the view with the tree, mc could pass into another tab in an unlocked view

I hope MC team doesn't forget about this feature that was asked numerous times and is promoted by many people.
Thanks
