Yes, it does. I currently do this.

To make this easier I recomend....
1) You do some registry tweaks to allow multiple concurrent users to login to the MC PC and also allow for a blank password (may want to consider the security impact on this and also may need changes to other PC's on your network if they use Windows 7/Vista to allow sharing with a PC that has a blank password - for me the convenience is absolutelty worth it).
2) Create an icon on the desktop of the MC PC which you'll click to log off the remote session. This icon runs a logoff command has a  special command switch/parameter that returns screen control to the MC PC without it "defaulting" to the user login screen.
Edit: this is the command I have assigned to an icon on my Media PC to logoff..."%windir%\System32\tscon.exe 0 /dest:console" and under windows 7 I think it is slightly different "tscon.exe 1 /dest:console ".

That way, you can just remote desktop in and out with minimal fuss.

I'll see if I can find a post on the web that describes how to do this....otherwise Google is your friend.

Remote desktop in Theater View requires that you have Windows 7 on both I think. Vista MIGHT also work?
I tested this the other day, but it was not a pleasant experience at all. It can improve if I turn down drawing quality etc I guess. But I doubt it'll work good enough.

If I were you, I'd rather install MC14 on the Notebook and using Treeview to run remote Theater View form the Notebook it self. I think that works better. You'd have to have library server running on the HTPC in this case.

Apologies for my post, I am running Xp on my HTPC with MC14 and I can confirm that theater view does not work when viewed via remote desktop from my Windows 7 macine or from my Xp Desktop machine.

No need to apologize :) The thing with the tscon.exe 0 /dest:console was good to know. I'm not sure that this would ever work on Windows 7 though. Even with the 0 turned to a 1. It's not supposed to have a separate console. At least that's what I've heard... I'll test it out later on. Would be good not to have to log in again every time.

That isn't an MC bug.  It's likely that no 3D works in that scenario.

Nope. Nothing to do with MC. XP and Vista just don't support the DirectX and Direct3D through Remote Desktop like W7 do. The new Remote Desktop Protocol allows commands to be sent from the server and processed on the client. It's supposed to handle 1080P movies well. My experience does not support this, but it might have been a faulty config on my side.

The Viliv thingy looks pretty nice. Way to much bezel for my taste, but I'm sure it'll work well. It's more the "correct" size for a remote device than the Eee imo. I would check how responsive the screen is though. I hate having to push such things several times for it to react. Maybe look at some video reviews of it?

Asus has a T1 with a touch screen.

I saw an Acer tablet this weekend.   I think it's just come out.

Forgive me, but with Treemote combined with Library Server, do we still need remote desktop now?

I'm using a netbook to control my media PC which sits in the living room. I use Tremote for the majority of things but there are certain things not yet built into tremote very well, like for example you can't rename files (at the file system level) from the tremote client. For that, and a variety of other things that pop up, I use remote desktop.

Cheers

how are your guy's speeds with your netbooks\umpc's?  do you have large libraries? are you all connecting with remote desktop? are your units wireless n?  do think this is the way to go for a remote?

I'm still undecided and have researched my brains out trying to figure out which will work the best. for speed, touch, functionality and above all size (smaller the better) Oh and another big question ive been thinkin about.. if i buy a small umpc without a keyboard just the screen, how does one search in theaterview? is there a shortcut one can press to bring up a touch keyboard in theaterview?

Also correct me if im wrong.. but if we will be ONLY using this as a remote, one doesnt really need to worry about speeds or processing power correct?
I mean it will be remoting from the htpc.. so basically, its just sending the video to the netbook umpc screen? I'm really scared about large libraries and thumbnail loading!?

With MC, the Tremote feature might work best:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=52261.0

The local copy of MC controls another across the room and plays back from it.

There is a touchscreen skin for MC.  It's called "Obsidian Touch".  Theater View has an on screen keyboard.

You should see it when you choose Search.

Try a "flick".  Grab the screen, move up or down quickly and let it go while you're still moving.  You can do this with a mouse or your finger.
