Which IR receiver/blaster to buy for HTPC and HA
« on: January 22, 2010, 01:03:42 pm »

I am currently considering Media Center as my choice for music, etc. I have not yet purchased a tuner card. I will also be running a home automation package, maybe Girder/Net-Remote. Hopefully, one choice will handle all of my needs.
I am also not sure of the methods of routing IR commands to the various software programs.

My question is, which IR set-up is going to be best.

I see my choices as
1. The Rec/Tran & remote package from JRiver
2. The USB-UIRT Rec/Tran only from Promixis
3. The Rec/Tran & remote package included in the Hauppauge 2250.

Any other good candidates / suggestions would be appreciated.

#3 and #1 are similar.  They should both work.

Thanks, that was a quick reply 8)
What about passing commands back & forth?
For instance, turn on the TV and radio- with Media Center running and not running?
Or lighting commands with MC running or not?

Some remotes use transceivers.  They receive and relay IR commands.  Our Media Center Remote does that.  You can place an emitter (cable with IR bulb) on any device's IR receiver.  So you can use MC and the remote to turn on a TV, for example.
