Media Center 14.0.147 -- Available Here
« on: February 18, 2010, 02:06:34 pm »

This is a beta version of MC 14.  Please post bugs here.  Please start a new thread for anything requiring discussion.  Non-bug posts will be deleted or moved.

http://files.jriver.com/mediacenter/MediaCenter140147.exe

14.0.147 (02/17/2010)

1. NEW: Theater View's Playing Now has functional position, volume, and star ratings (all items have left, right, enter functionality -- currently requires a remote or keyboard for functionality)
2. Fixed: The new Theater View Playing Now 'Info' panel was not tied to the correct file.
3. Changed: When Theater View jumps to Playing Now, it does it relative to the current view so "Back" will return to the previous view.
4. Changed: Theater View will jump to Playing Now when starting audio playback, a single
click will return. (can still be customized in Options > Theater View)

14.0.146 (02/16/2010)

1. NEW: Theater View has a new and improved Playing Now. (still a work in progress)
2. Changed: Pressing [Delete] at the end of an edit control no longer acts like pressing [Backspace].
3. Fixed: Windows 7 taskbar playback buttons would not be visible after restarting Media Center with Media Server already running.
4. Changed: By default, DLNA servers use relative URLs in their descriptions instead of full URLs. (can be changed in Options > DLNA > Server > Advanced > Use full URLs instead of relative URLs)

14.0.145 (02/15/2010)

1. NEW: Added Windows 7 snap-like functionality to the main application. (snaps to sides of displays, snaps to internal edges of multi-monitor systems, maximizes when snapping to top, works on any operating system)
2. Fixed: The mode 'Always active' vs 'Active when visible' displayed in Plug-in Manager for an interface plugin could be incorrect.
3. Changed: Dutch language translation updated. (thanks bennyd!)
4. Fixed: When using the search box in 'Wizard' mode, the 'Wizard' link in the middle of the search box and clear button was not correctly clickable.
5. Fixed: The volume slider would not reliably connect to the correct sound card for a zone during DVD playback with analog sound output.
6. Changed: When being externally controlled by a DLNA controller, Media Center will disable continuous without permanently changing the continuous setting.
7. Changed: When rendering a disabled version of a button with no disabled art, a faded version of the normal image will be used instead of a faded version of the pressed image.
8. Optimized: Improved startup performance.
9. Fixed: Fixed a case where loading a corrupt JPEG could cause a program crash.

Minor - The cancel (x) in search box when using the wizard now works, but the expression from the wizard still does not appear.  (you can get it to appear by using a two pane view, making the non-active one active and then switching back to the pane that used the search.)

ok i found the rating spot :) I LOVE IT!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

on my machine i can't see the stars or rating numbers? (I'm using galaxy skin) but if i move the right key 5 times then, go to top chose list info, chose the file it did 5 star it  :)  is there a way for us to see the stars as we click?  kinda link gappie and rick.ca showed me for in theaterview under advanced file caption they gave me this script....

[Name] if(isequal([rating],1,2),★,if(isequal([rating],2,2),★★,if(isequal([rating],3,2),★★★,if(isequal([rating],4,2),★★★★,if(isequal([rating],5,2),★★★★★,)

CHANGE SETTINGS IN THEATER VIEW FOR FONT TO @Arial Unicode MS

AGAIN THANK YOU!!!!

Also i know i'm prolly asking alot, if so.. please tell me to back off.. but is there anyway to do what ya guys did with playing now with theaterview?  so that the text is huge and readable as it is in playing now and totally elliminate the top drop down bar which is so small and impossible to read from the couch? And we can change ratings there as well, while showing the stars as we click the remote\keyboard?  then it would be Puuuurfect :)

i showed the GF the new interface tonight and she loves it("it's much easier"). No more having to look for ratings in the tag button she really like the flow of it too, as well as the ease of using the directional keys on the remote to bring up MOST USED OPTIONS(aspect ratio, position, hue, brightness, position, etc)  Great Work!

Tried to get a simple DNLA setup running. MC on my Win7 laptop and on a Win2003 server.

Two issues:
1)
Win7 as DLNA Server and Win2003 and Renderer works as expected. Win2003 shows up in Win7 "Playing Now" list and I can control the Win2003 system from Win7.

Win7 as DLNA Renderer and Win2003 Server does not work at all. The Win7 instance never shows up in the Win2003 "Now Playing". Even if I tick the Controller and Server boxes in the Win7 MC DNLA options, nothing shows up in Win2003.

So, it looks like this:
  Win7 Renderer <--> Win2003 Server - Bad
  Win7 Server<--> Win2003 Renderer - Ok

2)
Using either Generic or Denon DLNA I can get my Denon 3808ci to see MC (running on Win7). I can browse and play from the Denon interface. It'll even convert flac on the fly. Good job! Once a song is started from the Denon interface, I can pause, start, and stop from MC. I can select the Denon in "Now Playing", but it won't play. I get, "There was a problem controlling the selected DLNA device. Double-check your device, server, and network settings." and then "Media Center encountered errors while trying to play the last several files. Please make sure that the path in your media library points to the right location."

From the log file, everything looks correct right up to:
0038907: 4232: Playback: CPlayerZone::PlayNextFile: bCanPlayNext=0, m_bPlaybackError=1

One thing to note, my media library is on a network share. I'm not using UNC paths. I don't think that makes a difference, but it may? I'd really like to get this working with MC directly controller my Denon.

This is a better thread for DLNA issues:

Yours may be a firewall problem.  MC uses ports from 52100 to 52199.

This build didn't make Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 very happy.

Suspicious Activity
Potentially Dangerous Program
Keylogger
Process (PID: 3548):
C:\Program Files (X86)\J Rive...\Media Center 14.exe

Kaspersky's Details points to "C:\Program Files (X86)\J River\Media Center 14\JRService.exe" /Start as the culprit.

If I tell Kaspersky to allow the behavior it works OK except the Windows 7 taskbar behavior reverted back to what it was like prior to build .144. The Windows 7 taskbar will work until Kaspersky prompts about the suspicious activity.

Build .144 worked fine with Kaspersky.

Using backspace or back button moves focus to tree although focus was in the file list earlier.

Also if I'm tagging in the action window it would be more user friendly if pressing F2 would start editing in the last clicked object. Now pressing F2 will take focus to the file list window even though I had last clicked/edited some field in the action window

Thanks Matt. I've added it to the exclusions list and it works fine now. Wierd thing is that .144 didn't do this, just started with .147.

Since build 140 or so MC crashes quite often here.
This is what the Windows-logfile says in Dutch, but I guess you can figure out what the cause is:

Hence why I have loved running Windows since 1995 with no anti-virus software.  Ahhh, it's so great.  Yes, I never have problems, either.

I see a nice variety of improvements/fixes that I'm looking forward to!

1) The last.fm plug-in is cutting off the dash (-) at the end of song names. Might also be cutting off other odd characters.
Expample: a song titled "Killa -Sonata in Winter Saisho kara Imamade-" would be sent as "Killa -Sonata in Winter Saisho kara Imamade"

2) Can't sort by Disc # if there is an empty entry

3) Prevent MC from deleting the link between the CD database and the actual CD. Happens when the CD database is stacked with the main database. (I know keeping the "fix broken links" option on will fix this but I can't keep this turned on due to the fact that I break links on purpose sometimes (temporarily))

4) Moving a DVD folder using MC (Drives & Devices > My Computer) to a new location does not update the database

5) Change the disc # field to write to discnumber or both since it seems that discnumber is universally used by other programs. Looks like this is true for flac flies but not for mp3.

6) [REQUEST] have option to stack by disc # and track #

2) Can't sort by Disc # if there is an empty entry

Empty and 1 are sorted equivalent for disc number.  This is because it's very common to have an unfilled disc number, so we simply treat that as a 1 so you don't get unintuitive sorts (disc number is a default sort field even though the column can be hidden).

A little bug or strange behavior?
in Theater view when i click on info when i am in the new playnow view the two views are shown so i see 2 or 3 covert art and info together with the playing now view.
