How do you get MC to read the sidecar files?
« on: March 03, 2010, 02:33:27 am »

It seems like once a file has ever been in the library it ignores the sidecar files from that point on. Even if you delete the file from the library then reimport it, the old tag information from the library (instead of the new tag information from the sidecar file) is still there. I have a couple libraries on different machines and I want to be able to maintain the sidecar files on one machine and then have the other machine read them in. Right now the sidecar files appear to do nothing, though. Is there a way around this behavior?

Also it seems like Year should be in the sidecar but it isn't. I guess that is only stored in the library.

Try right clicking on the file and using Library Tools.

There are two different tools that read info from tags or library and write to the other.

If memory serves, I believe I saw that issue before. Or at least that is what appeared to happen. In my case I was importing from mymovies.xml file. The first time MC correctly reads in the file. It then creates it's own sidecar file. From here on out it only reads from that file. Deleting the file, or selecting Clear Tag Data causes it to grab from the original file again.

Anything like that going on in your case?

Thanks. The import library data from tags option seems to have done the job and overwritten the data that was hanging out in the library.
