Hi

I have a Sony Bravia KDL-22E5300 TV.  It supports DLNA V1.0 with music, photos and videos.  I can get music and photos working with MC fine, but video will not work - the TV does not list it as a video provider.  The TV does list Windows Media Player 12 as a video source, and video works from there.  So it's a MC issue, not the TV.

1. Tried Media Center 14 and 15, results are the same in both.
2. TV finds the MC DLNA server fine.

3. TV shows the MC DLNA server under Images and under Music.
4. Playing Images and Music from MC through DLNA works fine.

5. But the MC DLNA server does not show up under Video - the TV thinks it cannot play video

6. The TV is set up as a renderer, and the TV is set up to allow full access to its renderer from any device.
MC can see the TV as a zone.  MC is able to play music/photos to the TV renderer.  But it cannot play video to the renderer.

7. Windows Media Player 12 works with the TV for music, images AND VIDEO - so I know the TV can do video in general, it works from WMP.  (But WMP's library options are terrible, so I need MC to work..)

8. In MC, I have Convert Video and Support Video Content enabled.
9. I have "allow other DLNA devices to control MC" and "Allow control of other DLNA devices on the network."
10. In MC, I have tried various options:  DLNA, DLNAExtra, No Server Header, WMC compatible mode,  PS3 compatible mode, flat URLs, Session ID, Filter International.  Basically tried all of them, all with no change.

Would be most grateful if this could be fixed - I seem to be so close to getting this TV to work.  It works with WMP12 for Video so I'm sure MC can be made to work at all - the hurdle just seems to be that MC is not sending some data that the TV expects in order to indicate it supports playing video, hence the TV does not even list it as video capable.

The following shows my DLNA logs while the TV is scanning for DLNA devices.  It's at this point that the TV builds the list of servers and decides what categories to show them under:

Sure Jim, happy to run whatever you guys need me to.  Thanks a lot.

Forgot to mention, like GrandLuLu, I have also updated my TV's firmware to the latest version.

Can you try turning off convert video?
Start with only a generic dlna server then if it doesn't work, only turn on DLNAExtra and try again.

Tried most of that already -just done the DLNAExtra only one too, no change I'm afraid.

I've done:

1. Convert video and Support video on
1.a. One on, one off - both ways round
1.b  Both off
2. Convert Video & Support Video on, all advanced options off
3. Convert Video & Support Video on, DLNA only on
4. Convert Video & Support Video on, DLNAExtra only on
5. Convert Video & Support Video on, all advanced options on
6. Convert Video OFF, just DLNAExtra on
7. Convert video OFF, just DLNA on
7.a. also tried a few more advanced options on with this base config.
8. Convert video OFF, both DLNA and DLNAExtra on
9. Various other advanced options on at the same time as Support Video, Convert Video, and DLNA being on (for most tests I had all of those on.)

One thing I didnt get, why is "DLNA" an advanced option?  If this is turned off, what does that mean?  I thought the whole thing was a DLNA server so I don't understand what turning off "DLNA" is doing.

Be aware that I'm able to run a tcpdump / Wire Shark type network trace for you if that'd be of any help.

Thanks

With DLNA off it's a generic UPnP server without DLNA information in the content directory. The xbox 360 for example pays no attention to DLNA information.

That could be useful if it's filtered down to just the MC host and Sony IP's. If you start MC and then the tcpdump then try getting to MC server from the TV it may help. Unforch the problem could be a bit before that when the multicast UDP transactions are happening. You can filter on that too with tcpdump. The filter line gets somewhat complex like (mchostip and tchostip) or (239.255.255.250 and port 1900) IIRC

I'm just not seeing where the problem is. The dump I have looks fine. I'd like to double check with you all how this looks. Does the TV present you with a server selection (like Generic DLNA) for MC, then you navigate into video OR does it show the video category first (like a PS3) then allow selection of a server, then the video category?

It displays the 3 x media types - audio, images, video - first in the top-level menu.  Then under each media type, it lists DLNA servers.  Then when you select a DLNA server, it shows the tree structure.

So with MC, it looks a bit like this:

Audio  ->  MC DLNA Server
Images -> MC DLNA Server
Video ->  <no entries>

If a Windows Media Player server is available, then it shows up under all three media types correctly.   If both a MC and a WMP server are available, then both servers are listed under Audio and Images, but only WMP is shown under Video.

HTH, thanks

Bouh, just upgrated to 15.0.65; seen improvements for dlna video apparitions but nothing appears for my Sony KDL 32V5500 TV.
I will wait again & again & again...
Long life to Media Center.

Thanks.  Try some of the DLNA settings.  "DLNA Extra", for example.  I believe we've had reports of Sony TV's working.

If you don't see anything, maybe a firewall is blocking it.

Nope, MC video still does not work with Sony Bravia TVs. I have tried every version for the last couple of months with absolutely no luck getting Video working. I am still using windows media center sharing and PlayOn to get video to my Sony TV. MC won't do anything beyond Music and Pictures on my Sony TV.

Still trying to track this one down. There were a lot of related DLNA changes in 5.0.106 but another Sony TV user already reported it didn't help. We haven't given up on this yet...

Could one of you with a Sony TV that doesn't work for video help out by doing a wireshark packet capture of a session with the TV and something that works (the simplest is serviio http://www.serviio.org/download ).

Get wireshark from:
http://www.wireshark.org/download.html
When you install it for your computer, let it install libpcap, it's necessary.
Then startup wireshark
do a capture->stop
In Capture->Options
In the Capture filter input box, put
host 1.2.3.4
(replace 1.2.3.4 with the IP address of your TV)
Then do capture->start
Hit Apply to apply the filter.
Go to the TV and navigate into the Video menu for the serviio server (you always want to start from the base menu on the TV with the capture running).
You could select something to play but it's not necessary at this point.
do capture->stop
Then file->save (give it a name, use the default format).
Email it to me
b o b (at) j r i v e r . c o m
Thanks.
PS if you have any trouble with this, PM me please.

Great!
Those are the recommended settings for the Sony TV's.
It IS really important to enable the DLNA server! We should have made that more clear.
It shouldn't make any difference whether or not the "support video content" switch is checked at this time since the views are now customizable.

I don't know how to rip dvd's (with win 7 x64).
How can u do that?
Please try a google search or another forum.  doom9?  It's not permitted in some countries, so I don't want legal problems.

Thanks for the clarification. It could be that ripped dvd's are exceeding the maximum bitrate for the TV's DLNA. When we transcode we do reduce the bitrate to a level that more devices seem to be able to handle. Will do some more checking here as well...

It looks like that wasn't the problem since we could duplicate this on a PS3 which should be able to stream it. There's a change in build 133 which hopefully will solve the problem (works on the PS3).

Great news so, what are the parameters to check ?

We've tested this with an KDL-46NX810.
You can try the Sony BD/TV preset (Media Network, Add or Configure DLNA servers).
On ours, it can play mpeg2 ifo's as well as mpeg2/ac3 in an mpeg2 container. Other video types need transcoding.
Here is the certificate for yours:
http://certification.dlna.org/certs/REG78207208.pdf
If you have a PAL TV, under Advanced, change Video DLNA override to MPEG_PS_PAL
and the Video encoder should be MPEG2/DVD PAL Stream
Your device is a DMP only, this means you need to access content in MC using the TV remote, you can't push content to the TV (as far as I can tell; firmware updates may have changed this).

I do all of the things you told me.
You are right, my tv is a Sony kdl 32v5500, bravo !
After that, i can't see all my videos.
Some of them i captured with my JVC cam or Apple Nano (i don't know), aren't readable.
I think JR Media Center converted them; maybe not...

Do some of the videos work and not others??  If so, can you email me a small one that doesn't work. bob (at) jriver (dot) com
It's possible that we can't convert some of them presently...

Thanks!
