New Official Build of CCCP Available
« on: October 12, 2010, 10:02:20 am »

Just thought I'd mention...

The CCCP people released a new build (finally) this weekend that incorporates TONS of new versions of the included filters, and features improved Windows 7 (particularly 64-bit) support.  I've been using the Betas for some time and they've been quite stable.

You can get it from the CCCP Homepage here: http://www.cccp-project.net/

Does CCCP install the standalone MPC-HC video decoder for use with MC?

It includes MPC-HC.  I don't know what the decoder you're referring to does or what it is for.

Thanks!

For MC15, is it best to uninstall the previous version first?

I haven't been typically doing that as I've upgraded through the betas.  However, since this is a new "official" build, I actually did do the uninstall first.  Probably doesn't matter, but never hurts.

Generally, the safest process with all codecs and filters is this:

1. Uninstall.
2. Reboot.
3. Install new version.

But, you can probably be lazy if you want.

Well... Installed the new pack.
MPC now crashes on mpeg2 files.
MC15 plays mpeg2 but doesn't show subtitles.
No problems with divx/xvid.
Reverted back to 09-09-09 and all is well again.
(I might have some stray filters/codecs in my system)

When I had these problems with the new CCCP I went back to Zoom Player - this thing still amazes me - when everything else fails it just works!
What is nice about this player - it checks your system and tells you what codecs are missing and downloads/installs them for you.
A feature like this would be REALLY nice to have in MC (17?).
MC supports some stuff natively but for the rest it relies on 3rd party codecs/filters. Too often I find MC not playing this or that (no subtitles, no audio in divx, no multichannel wav audio, etc) after an update to a new build and I have to fiddle with cccp, ac3filter, ffdshow, etc to make it work again. But Zoom Player just works no matter what.
WOULDN'T IT BE NICE IF MC INSTALL ALL NEEDED CODECS/FILTERS FOR YOU? (sorry for shouting) and check if something is missing?
I am really impressed with ZP.

 :)
It's "Harosho (Хорошо)". If you meant "good" or "cool".
"Harosha" would be something like "cool girl". Which is true if you look at my avatar but I am a man - don't even remember why I have BS for avatar. I used it somewhere and it stuck.

:)  Harosha.

Ha.  Yes, their name (not to mention the "branding") is certainly... I don't know.  I think they probably find it more "clever" and "amusing" than silly.  I don't know that I agree, but then, who am I to say?   ::)  :)

MPC-HC handles my MPEG-2 files fine here.

I did notice with some of the recent beta builds that moving the MPC window from monitor to monitor on my system while playing some files back will cause it to hard-lock the application (actually it also blocked access to the Explorer window that launched MPC-HC, as well as any other open instances of MPC-HC for a few minutes).  This seemed to occur most frequently with AVC content (like H264 MP4s or MKVs).

However, I have not been able to reproduce this issue with more recent builds.

Just be ware of the claim that this is 64bit. It is not and will not produce thumbnails on 64bit systems. It does work with 64bit windows 7 as long as the player you use is 32bit. Shark007 codecs work with 64bit systems and 64bit players.

http://shark007.net/

I have been using these for over a year and am impressed with them.

Ummm.... Haali's splitter has worked for thumbnail generation on Windows Vista/7 64-bit for a very long time (since CoreAVC 2.0 and the new build of Haali came out).  I can't say for SURE that CCCP alone works with Windows Explorer thumbnail generation with HD h264 files, because I use CoreAVC for my H264 content, but it works fine for XviD and other similar ASP files, and I strongly suspect FFDSHOW would work similarly with h264 content, since the file source filter would be 64-bit capable.

Otherwise, there is no substantial end-user benefit to using a fully 64-bit "player".  In most cases, running in fully 64-bit mode would actually serve only to bloat the memory footprint of the player.
