Blu-ray won't play
« on: July 10, 2011, 03:46:27 pm »

Hi everybody!

I've just downloaded MC16 trial version and compared to PowerDVD 10 really sound better.
I'd like to buy but I can play everything except Bluray  :'(

I went deeply into this forum and installed also AnyDVD HD but still not able to play, sigh..
My system has Win7 64 bit, Asus BD player.
Each time I put a BD in the player I have the following back:

"Media center encountered errors while trying to play the last several files. Please make sure that the path in your media library points the right location"

The same BDs works perfectly in PowerDVD10: what am I missing?

Thanks everybody for kind support.!

Welcome.  Did you set playback to Red October in Video options?  MC will download needed components.

Did you reboot after AnyDVD was installed?

Do You think I miss something like LAV or what else?

Try RO STD first.  It downloads everything you need.

It is possible you have a disc that ANYDVD won't read, so try a few.

Could you give us some specifics about the hardware you're using?  I saw W7 in there so that's good.  Video card?  Driver?  What kind of CPU do you have?  Just trying to figure out what RO is attempting to do for playback and that info would help.

I hope it will help..

Video card?   Gygabite Invidia Ge Force GT430

Driver? don't know, if I switch again from Sky decoder to the living room computer I'll be kicked off by my wife. Maybe You know how bad they can get...   8)

What kind of CPU do you have? It's an intel G6950

Motherboard? Asus P7H55m-usb3

Ram? 4 GB

Is it serious?

Well, I know what *I* would do in your situation.  (And yes, understand the significant other issue quite well.  :D)  I would get a copy of LAV CUVID (open source) from here:  http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=160290

Now comes the not so fun part so bear with me for a bit.  This will not be a fun ride.  :)  Install the LAV CUVID installer.  Now open up MC16, go to tools, options, video.  Change directshow selection method to Advanced - Red October with additional filters.  Now in the dropdown for video type, select Blu-ray.  Under other filters, add LAV CUVID.  Source filter should be automatic and renderer should be automatic, as well.  Yes, this is a lot of work that hopefully will not be necessary soon, but, for today, this is what I recommend to try to get this working for you.  The bonus to this is that LAV CUVID is an *EXCELLENT* decoder for your nVidia card.  Once you get basic playback working, we'll discuss maybe tweaking it a bit for better PQ.  But let's get the basics done first.

I'm downloading this:  LAVCUVID-0.9-x64
Is that correct?

http://files.1f0.de/cuvid/LAVCUVID-0.9.exe

Use that one please.  MC16 is not a 64 bit app.  You definitely need the 32 bit version.  That installer will install both.

Do you have UAC turned on?  If so, try right clicking the installer and selecting "Run as administrator".  See if that helps.

I'm in the U.S.  User Access Control. It's that fun thing that pops up whenever you install something asking if you want to install it.  In some cases, like when registering OCX/DLL's you have to give the installer admin privs.  So try my suggestion and see if it fixes it.

Then clearly something is screwy on your machine.  I'm not sure what else to have you try at this point.  Hopefully others reading this will have some brilliant suggestion.  :(  Sorry I wasn't able to get this working for you!  I hope you get it resolved quickly.  If I think of anything else to try I'll reply back.

Under Tools -> Options -> Video, make sure that Bitstreaming is set to "None (recommended)" to start with.  At least on my HTPC, I found that I'd get an error message trying to play a Bluray if I set that option to HDMI.  I haven't experimented further yet.  I do like the simple Bluray playback that you get in MC without all the time consuming BD Java crap.

Is there a trick to getting the crop control to work?  It shows up as an option when I play a dvd, but not for bluray.  There's an aspect ratio option for right mouse, but it seems stretch but not zoom.  This is with 16.0.126.

Hi Marco.
I read about you issue installing the LAVCUVID-0.9
the thing is that you need to have the latest CUDA 4 for that app to run with out error during the installation.
it happened the same to me, I installed the latest Nvidia driver 275.33-desktop-win7-winvista-64bit-english-whql from the web site and the CUDA version was updated to 4.
after that you can install the LAVCUVID-0.9 without problems.
Cheers

Thanks a lot guys. I'll try this evening.
In the meantime I can say I finally found the menu related to other filters and it came out selecting "JRiver video engine" in the playback method...

It's a nice player but requires expertise...

I found the menu but there were no LAVCUVID to select.

Maybe it was due to the incorrect installation...
We'll this evening.

Red October should  just work.  It's not clear why it isn't working in your case.  Thanks for your patience.

Thanks to you for your unbeateable support!

But I agree about the fact that I have a strange position, sorry from my side!

Could it be related to something about win 7 update?

Or maybe the build of MC16? If I'm not wrong I should haave downloaded the build 121...

Could the problem be that OP has PowerDVD installed and JRiver MC16?
Might be worth a try to uninstall PowerDVD, could it be misdirecting drive/player to look in PowerDVD folder instead of MC folder?

No, definitely not.  I have MC16, MPC-HC, VLC, PDVD, TMT, iTunes, WinDVD, and VSO's media player installed on my HTPC.  Never had an issue.  :)

Check that music files play.  Set the sound device under Tools/Options/Audio if necessary.

Then check what you have set for Audio under Video options.

Try DVD playback if you haven't.  Install as admin if you haven't.  This only affects Nvidia hardware.

Did you try installing or running as admin?

I believe this must be security related.

I just checked again and Blu-ray works for me on Win7.

I will call this the the "black period"  :-[

It's first time I'm experimenting such a lot of problem with PC: no comment.

I'll be back to you after I'be able to access again the pc.
