Change Channels While Recording Goes To Wrong Channel
« on: October 28, 2011, 04:07:28 pm »

With a recording being done I want to watch another channel. I select the new channel in the Theater View Guide. It presents option to cancel the recording and go to new channel. When I do this it has the STB go to the wrong channel. For instance the new channel should be 017. One time it sent it to 177, the next 5. I have actually seen some repeats of those numbers.

Channel selecting always seems okay when straight from the Guide - just have the problem when cancelling a recording. Timing issue?

Thanks,
Rod

I can not reproduce the problem on my computer.  You mentioned the need to press 0 if the channel has only two digits.  I thought that might be the reason.  However, if you double-click the channel on the channels list and MC starts the correct channel, then it should also work when switching channel because in both cases MC blasts the same IR code.

.......You said above that for a Cable STB assigning numbers is not necessary, or did I misunderstand?........

Good Morning Yaobing,

Since it seems to change channels fine from the guide, but not from being at another place in MC I wonder if it may be some kind of timing issue. Is that possible?

Is assigning numbers a necessity?

Thanks for looking into this.

Oh, I forgot about remote.  I am still not sure if it is the channel number assignment.  Send me a log of you changing channel with a remote (let me know what numbers you pressed, and what channel you ended up with).

Hi Yaobing,

Okay one part of problem solved. When viewing a channel and asking for a new one on the remote in Theater View it would give the wrong channel. I was on say channel 17 and wanted to see 18. As I did in Sage I hit 018 and it would give a wrong channel. I tried just entering 18 (instead of 018) and it always works fine.

The remaining channel changing problem is if I am recording on one channel and want to watch another channel.

I sent you a log file on the problem. These are the steps I did that created the log file.

1. Theater View, Guide.
2. Asked for Ch 18.
3. It asked if I wanted to reenable recording on 18.
4. I did OK
5. It came back to Guide on 18 but did not change recording.
6. Asked again to record on 18. It did this time, changing ch properly.
7. I went to guide and asked for 17.
8.Got msg Stop Recording. Show Channel.
9.I hit okay.
10. STB went to 177. (THIS IS OUR PROBLEM, although some of the sequence above seemed odd.)
11. I went to guide and asked for 17 (or could have been 18 - not sure).
12. It said currently recording the channel.
13. I hit Stop Recording. Show Channel.
14. STB went to 17.
15. Screen said currently watching 17  Click okay to switch to 18 & begin Recording.
16. STB went to 18.

Hope this and the log are helpful in finding the problem.

Added on edit:  Regular channel changing from the guide, as long as a recording is not being done, is always correct.

Thanks very much.

We should probably make 18 or 018 work the same way.

Sounds good to me Jim.

The following changes will appear in an upcoming new build:

13. Fixed: Canceling television recording did not work when user chose to switch to a different channel on the same tuner.
14. Fixed: OSD displayed channel info incorrectly when an STB channel was watched or recorded (it showed "Playing: Input Source 3 -..." instead of "Playing: 55 CNN..." for example).
