Hi,

just try  to decrease the number of tracks you want to burn (150/155 tracks maxi for 128 kbps mp3), I think that it should work.

With 100 tracks on MC16 it works:

With the same number of tracks on MC17 I get the error msg below.

Different encoding or conversion settings?

"End of user area encountered..."

To: JRiver / JohnT or Matt, does this mean the temp space or the disc space?

To: Sgucci99

When MC converts files for burning an MP3 data CD it needs temporary space for the complete ISO image file. Do you have enough free space in the location that is set in Tools > Options > File Location > Program Files > Temporary files ?

I wonder if these two old threads would be of any help:

That error refers to the disc itself, it means there was too much data to fit on the disc.  The default MP3 bitrate in MC17 might be higher than it was in MC16 which would account for the different capacities.  Did Media Center give you a warning that it might run out of space before it started to burn the disc?  If not, it must be getting the wrong capacity info for the disc.

I did another test today.

First of all I went on the options, file location, setting the temprary file folder the same for both MC16 and 17, in order to avoid
any doubt on the free disc space that, by the way is of 200G.
So, same directory and folder for both MC16 and 17.
Same files for both, same kind of compression rules for MP3.
The conversion is from ape to MP3

Second I selected the same files, 100, as per  below picture.

As you can see the space required on the disk is below the maximum capacity of 700M

And I got the same result of yesterday:
With MC16 it works:

With MC17 DOESN'T work

The only difference is MC16 against MC17.
Any idea ?

For my part I got this error message because the ISO file generated by MC (16 or 17) was too big for the CD-R in spite of MC indicated me a capacity lower than 700Mb.

Because I wanted to understand this, I opened the temp folder and I noticed that in reality the ISO file generated by MC was larger than what it was expected.
In fact cover pictures are added and if they represent large file this increases a lot the capacity predicted by MC.

In fact, for my part, MC indicated me for example 650Mb and in reality ISO file was about 750Mb.

Try to look at the temp folder to see what is how much Mb have the ISO file generated by MC at the end of the preparation process.

Excuse me If my written English is not perfect but I'm french.

I can understand what you are saying, but...
With the same files, the same compression ratio  and the same CD, MC16 works and  MC17 doesn't.
Moreover the error msg seems to be referred to the available space on the on the HD, where the ISO temporary file is stored.

I'm still waiting for an explanation..

The error message refers to the CD itself, not the HD.  It sounds like MC is incorrectly calculating the CD space required, as Domi suggested.  I'm doing some testing here, maybe you could send me a log file as well (to johnt at jriver dot com). Thanks.

Thanks,

I'll send the log file.

Does this mean MC16 and 17 to have diffrent behaviour ?

There's no intentional difference in behavior for burning data CD's between 16 and 17.  It's possible a bug got introduced because of a change in some other part of the program.  I'm looking into it.

It isn't forgotten, but I don't think John could reproduce it.

Why not ?

In order to reproduce it, it is enough to create a list which contains around 520M, as I did, and use a RW-disc, in order to save R-discs.
No useful infos from the log file ?

I've been able to repro the problem here and will be coming out with a fix in an upcoming build (probably tomorrow).  We've been under-estimating the final size of VBR MP3 files.
