MC17 not responding after pause
« on: January 27, 2012, 10:35:55 am »

MC17 running under Windows XP Pro. Audio playback of flac files on local hard disk.
Output mode: kernel streaming
Device: HIFACE kernel streaming
Using M2Tech HiFace EVO for USB to SPDIF, then into AudioNote DAC.
If I press pause and then press stop MC freezes. The process is not responding. Cannot kill it. Have to reboot. Easy to reproduce this problem. Others seem to have reported similar, going back several versions. Cannot see any solution posted.  Logs show nothing I can understand, (no "crash").  Cannot easily email logs as don't use Outlook! System info follows:

"If you don't get an answer in the first 24 hours, post a reply to your own question."

I can make MC17 freeze every time just by hitting pause then stop. I have to reboot every time. I had the exact same problem with MC16. I'm using a current driver for a popular device (M2Tech HiFace EVO). I have not seen a post that kernel streaming is not stable under Windows XP SP2, so I shouldn't need to upgrade to Windows 7. I need support. Please can somebody help?

I don't recognize that as a bug in our software.  You might try checking with HiFace.  You could read about some driver problems with it here.  Maybe look in the DAC Settings topic on our wiki for a link.

I can't reproduce this here.  I think it's likely a driver issue.

One solution would be to use WASAPI - Event Style (requires Vista or newer), because then the driver never sees a pause, flush, etc.
