Need setup help for hdmi to tv
« on: February 12, 2012, 03:23:35 pm »

Hi,
I have my computer in the room next to my TV
the computer has its own monitor and the TV is connected with a long HDMI cable.
Is it possible when switching to theater view to have this on the TV and normal view on the computer?
I'm not sure how to setup the tv, like with audio i was looking for an output destination but I cant seem to find any.
should the TV be setup as an extended monitor? or can it be somehow selected from within JRiver?

using an ati HD6950  and a Panasonic P42ST30

I cant see my tv from my computer so some part of setup from catalyst  control panel can be dificult

any tips or suggestions welcome

What about setting up "zones" in MC?

You can have multiple instances of MC run at the same time -

Tools > Options > General > Advanced > Allow Multiple Instances

So you could run one instance on the TV (an extended desktop as you said) and the other on your monitor.

But then you have the question of how to control it...

I was hoping the hdmi was selectable as ouput like you would use an firewire out for video preview in video-edit software independent of the windows desktop

multiple instances wont be an solution

I'm controlling it with JRemote on my iphone.
with the Options > Tree & View > Full Screen > Monitor 2
picture will move to the living room.

for audio all works great for video everything is still a little messy

for example, I still have some trouble  automatically switching to the right frame-rate
not sure why there is no 24 or 23 fps selectable in display settings (its there in catalyst control center)

I asume for now 60 fps is the best other option for 24 (ish) vids

and its hard to organize the series it seems like I would need to manually fix a lot of tags
unless i will somehow grasp how to use fill tags from filenames better  sofar i'm not sure what strings to use

for now directly browsing to the folder structure will get me to actualy find what i'm looking for

(also it seems JRiver took the liberty to write thumbnail pics inside my video folders wich make browsing on my netgear ntv550 messy because now every title is displayed twice)

for video there is a lot of work...
if anyone has tips how to enable the missing framerates in the menu i'd be glad to hear.

The tag you want to edit is called FPS.  Frames per second.

thanks for your reply

al the tags seem to carry an value for fps

If I look in catalyst control 24fps is selectable but to make it work for "enable automatic dispay settings changing" (video> display settings)  it needs to be selectable in the drop down list next to the Film entries

What about Tools>Options>Video>Display Settings?

Edit: Your posted images were blocked from my work computer. The screen you show is where I was referring to. However I get the 24fps (and 23) setting. I just can't catch that view in the "snip".

I've been nosing around some more it seems my pc monitor itself does not support 24p (its a standard 1080p samsung lcd)
could it be MC somehow scans the options for my computer monitor and after that disregards the fps options the tv has?

Maybe try this program to confirm what your display can or cannot do.
http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/moninfo.shtm

I have a Samsung LCD and get this:
CE video identifiers (VICs) - timing/formats supported
    1280 x  720p at  60Hz - HDTV (16:9, 1:1) [Native]
     720 x  480p at  60Hz - EDTV (16:9, 32:27)
    1920 x 1080i at  60Hz - HDTV (16:9, 1:1)
    1920 x 1080p at  24Hz - HDTV (16:9, 1:1)
    1920 x 1080p at  30Hz - HDTV (16:9, 1:1)
    1920 x 1080p at  60Hz - HDTV (16:9, 1:1)
     720 x  480i at  60Hz - Doublescan (16:9, 32:27)
NB: NTSC refresh rate = (Hz*1000)/1001

However, I still get the "23fps" setting/choice in MC.
